Getting back to the topic at hand (and hopefully ending the sniping), I've been enjoying watching some classic All-Star games on ESPN Classic. This All-Star weekend has actually ended up being much more entertaining that I expected.

:)

I don't care whether that was a dunk or no dunk. Howard saved All Star weekend at least for me. That was fun.

Here is a piece of trivia for you and a question: Toni Kukoc, back in the late 80's when he was playing for Yugoplatika, running on a fast break gets the ball around half court, dribble, two-steps, takes off from just inside 3 point line (FIBA 3pt line, 6.25 meters, about 3 feet shorter then in NBA), ball in the arm raised way above his head, realizes that he took off too early for a dunk or a lay up, just throws the ball down through the cylinder from way out there. He looked like a team handball player shooting a penalty. Was it a dunk? ;)

I don't remember the opponent but I remember play by play guy completely stunned and saying something like "what an emphatic layup".

it was amazing and very impressive but it was not a dunk. Technically, should have not counted. They took Rip's threes away because he stepped on the line. Double standards but NBA is entertainment & money first and sports - sometimes
Never could've said it any better myself.

Now THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT! ;)

I agree with you. I really wasn't going to watch it this year and the only reason I turned it on last night because nothing is was on. I'm glad I decided to watch it. Watching Dwight Howard was just amazing. I also like the 3 point shooting contest (I was rooting for Peja), however, Jason Kapono was on fire.

Its been a very entertaining all-star weekend.

lol what in god's name would it have took to impress you? him flying from half court, doing a somersault in the air three or four times before throwing it off the backboard and dunking it in reverse?

seriously that was amazing. An amazing dunk.
I was impressed with the move, but I and probably everyone else would have been a lot more impressed if he actually got a hold of the rim.

Creative? Yes. Entertaining? Yes. Physically impressive ? Yes.

A slam dunk? No.

We've missed having you express the "beating a dead horse" opinion, sloter.

;)

Now, back to the game? I see the Kings did make a contribution after all. Those West uniforms sure look like they've used some of the excess gold lamé we had laying around the team store and anywhere else all the unused, unsold merchandise is kept.

:p

It was a dunk.

But now to the All-Star game. What is up with those jerseys?!? You can't tell the teams apart when the east has their backs turned and the west faces forward. Even if the players don't get confused, I sure am as a viewer.

I guess I wasn't the first to notice, either. :)

I have the definite answer to your query:

I didn't say "lame"... I said "lamé" which is a type of material woven with flat gold or silver thread.

;)

Now, as far as answering the question about your purchase, I refuse to answer...

Whatcha guys think about Byron (Baby B) Scott sitting Kobe for probably the rest of the game? Seems that Stern found himself a nasty loophole for the future. Expect mandatory minutes for starters to be written into the rules (if there are any).

Think Stern can/will do anything about it, to Baby B at least?

Dear, dear Gargy - They announced that your team doctors called Byron Scott and the west trainers and told them to wrap his two fingers together and NOT let him play any more, regardless of what he might say. So it's on your team, not Stern or Byron Scott.

Personally, I think it shows what a brave little soldier Kobe is to even show up, considering the excruciating pain he must be suffering. How noble of him to show up anyway, thereby keeping anyone else from having to make last minute travel plans.

It's on Byron - his call, not theirs. He happens to know Vitti very well. There's that word again...colllluuuuuuusion.

Actually it's Kobe's call. He could have stayed home and let someone else take the spot but noooooooooo. Couldn't miss the opportunity to bask in the adulation of his myriad of fans.

Blaming Byron Scott for this is like blaming Jason Kidd for the trade not going down.

Anyway, back to the game...

I don't know if it's just me or not but the game hasn't grabbed my interest at all so far. Perhaps because I'm blinded by the costumes and can't tell which players are which? I really liked it better when they each played in their own uniforms. These costumes are just way too "Mardi Gras clown" ...

Oh wait. They are in New Orleans.

If we ever hold an all-star game in Sacramento, do you think the uniforms will be made of material that resembles cowhide?

;)

Kobe is a selfish bastard. So many deserving players in the West didn't make it and he has to play his 3 minutes instead of letting another guy get some bredit too.

Except he wanted to miss the game but under league rules he would have to miss LA's next game as well.

I too was under the impression he didn't want to play but there's a league rule that says he had to. I think the rule sucks a bit but I understand the idea.
