Some losses are harder than the others because they are undeserved and Kings just had one of those or better say - another one of those. Kings had their 3 game road winning streak snapped by Cavs tonight dropping to 12-19 for the season. Kings are still 7-6 vs. sucky Eastern Conference. Currently 1:1 on the 3 game road trip - Kings will look to continue their decent play against the Bulls who are struggling mightily and need wins in a worst way. After that Kings will have a 4 game home stand and will try to do better than they did last time where they lost them all.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really liked what I saw tonight in general. If this was our roster + Kevin and we had 3 first round pick - I would sleep well knowing that things have turned around. I like the effort and the way that this group of guys plays together. The best thing about it , is the fact that the team would play this way every nigh but it would lose a lot which would pay off later big time. No big contracts, no wannabe superstars who hog the ball. Well there is still Kenny Thomas but he will be here forever and we just have to learn to live with it which is getting easier as off late.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Turnovers is the part which I don't like about our game. Way too many, unforced, retarded, somewhat irresponsible and pathetic too. They are killing us. I don't know how much is the individual BB IQ responsible for this, how much is lack of talent and how much is lack of experience but there has got to be a way to make the game more simple for what we have. Lack of focus and concentration is hurting us too. we are making way too many bad decisions. Lot's of our players should go into politics because no one will notice when they screw up as frequently as they do these days.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin Wiliams got some time and it paid off. At first - it was totally weird seeing a big man in Kings uniform - jumping for the rebounds, scoring of 2nd chance points and doing all the things that a big man is supposed to do. Once the "shock" wore off -I liked it. Well, that he got on the line and that wasn't pretty. He has got to work on it hard to at least Ben Wallace level which as You know is as low as it will ever be. Watching tyson chandler abusing the warriors right now - I think that Williams eventually can at least get the defensive and rebounding part. When was the last time a Kings player had 20 rebounds?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hate refs acknowledging that their job is hard. ( I was a soccer referee myself). Especially when they think that they are larger than game. The biggest thing that i hate is a superstar treatment. Sometimes - You can't even breath hard next to a guy and they call it mostly because that is an easy way to go. I don't like when the offensive player create contact intentionally with a defender who can go nowhere and they get a call - like Kevin Martin for example. Any time a player has more FTA than an opponent team - things aren't right. You take those flop FTAs away and the scoring average of some volume shooters goes down.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A close game between 2 mediocre teams went to the home team who lucked out and had help from the refs and Kings equally. Kings did well as a team. Shot great shared the ball well and even played solid defense. Unfortunately they couldn't overcome 31-12 FTA difference and 21-7 turnover edge. Kings also got tired as the game went on playing a 7 man rotation + Larry Hughes - QD who would have been much better playing for someone else tonight. At the end one or two retarded decisions down the stretch cost us.

AWARD TIME

TDM went to Gibson over Brown because of the game winning shot. Nothing impressive from either one but enough for tonight.
LW-VC award went to Drew Gooden who is worse than Mikki Moore and we almost traded for him or so they say.
RA&1 award went to Larry "suck" Hughes. He was incredibly horrible and I expected this since I watched him life a week ago and other than A. Walker he is the worst player in the NBA that I have seen live.
JHA award went to QD who played a vintage Jason hart performance.
WTF moment of the game -pick a turnover
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bulls are next and they aren't playing well but they do have a better team than the record shows. They need wins and they are coming off a unfortunate loss against the Blazers but they will be rested and we are in the 2nd game in a back to back situation playing 7-8 man. We will need to do things that we aren't good at like rebounding and taking care of the ball. Bulls don't have inside presence on the offensive end so if we guard them half decent - we will have a chance.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Salmons - playing consistently on a very high level
Brad - has got to rebound better
Beno - decent
Mikki - didn't foul out tonight
Cisco - damn man - just think out there - ups, never mind:(
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin - there You go
Jones - okay
QD - not promising
Hawes - more time please
KT - has done extremely well as of late. I always knew - this is his natural role
rest - get well soon

Coach T - finally
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Bulls have an identicl 12-19 record and they have 6-9 at home which is pathetic. I still think that they will finish somewhat better than they are doing now. They lack inside presence even though it seams that Joe Smith is emerging in that role and he is also my TDM candidate #1 with Noah being close 2nd. deng got hurt last night and his status is uncertain. Gordon will get LW-VC award ( a crazy pick - I know). We will be competitive again but I think that we will run out of gas eventually.

As opposed to us? Bulls at least have someone in their regular rotation that can defend inside. And, if Chicago's last two games are any indication, Joe Smith will kill us dead if we try to play small.

Joe Smith actually played good the last game they played....As for Wallace, utilizing the pick in pop/roll will be on our advantage as seen in their last game that he had trouble in guarding that play...

When was the last time a Kings player had 20 rebounds?
Unless I overlooked something in 2002-2003, the (depressing) answer is:

Jan. 5 2001: Chris Webber goes off for 51 points, 26 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in an OT game versus the Pacers.

Webber ('02-'03) was also the last King to average a double-double, but I suppose that's pretty obvious.

Team rebounding and blocks:
'49-'50: prehistory, no stats.
'50-'51: 44.3 RB (Rebound stats start being counted during this year)
'51-'52: 51.1 RB
'52-'53: 51.8 RB
'53-'54: 48.5 RB
'54-'55: 54.2 RB
'55-'56: 61.8 RB
'56-'57: 50.9 RB
'57-'58: 60.2 RB
'58-'59: 59.6 RB
'59-'60: 64.0 RB
'60-'61: 68.1 RB
'61-'62: 69.1 RB
'62-'63: 67.8 RB
'63-'64: 65.9 RB
'64-'65: 65.7 RB
'65-'66: 67.8 RB
'66-'67: 63.4 RB
'67-'68: 62.5 RB
'68-'69: 55.2 RB
'69-'70: 50.8 RB
'70-'71: 50.6 RB
'71-'72: 45.8 RB
'72-'73: 44.2 RB
'73-'74: 44.7, 4.7 <--- blocks become a stat in this year
'74-'75: 45.6, 4.2
'75-'76: 46.3, 4.0
'76-'77: 46.5, 4.7
'77-'78: 46.8, 4.5
'78-'79: 43.8, 4.8
'79-'80: 44.1, 4.3
'80-'81: 42.5, 4.7
'81-'82: 41.0, 4.9
'82-'83: 44.7, 5.0
'83-'84: 41.7, 4.7
'84-'85: 42.6, 3.7
'85-'86: 42.8, 4.7
'86-'87: 45.4, 4.8
'87-'88: 45.0, 6.0
'88-'89: 43.8, 5.0
'89-'90: 40.4, 4.8
'90-'91: 39.6, 6.3
'91-'92: 41.6, 7.5
'92-'93: 41.7, 4.2
'93-'94: 42.3, 4.3
'94-'95: 41.4, 5.6
'95-'96: 41.1, 5.3
'96-'97: 41.5, 4.4
'97-'98: 41.4, 5.1
'98-'99: 45.6, 4.6
'99-'00: 45.0, 4.6
'00-'01: 45.0, 5.3
'01-'02: 45.3, 4.6
'02-'03: 44.5, 5.6
'03-'04: 41.2, 4.0
'04-'05: 42.4, 3.8
'05-'06: 40.5, 3.6
'06-'07: 38.9, 3.2
'07-'08 (so far): 39.5, 3.9

The last 3 years have been 3 out of our 5 worst years for rebounding, and 3 out of our 4 worst for blocking.

So I guess the good news is that this year is looking a little better than last year. The bad news is that last year was the worst for both rebounding and blocks in franchise history. This year is shaping up to be 2nd worst in franchise history for rebounds, and 5th worst for blocks. But it's progress, I suppose.
