Congratulations to the Patriots

The first team to ever go 16-0 in the regular season. It's an amazing accomplishment that you can't help but be in awe of. I can't stand the Patriots and I hate that Tom Brady broke Peyton Manning's record, but they deserve their credit for going undefeated.

So, albeit begrudgingly, I offer my congratulations to them and their fans.

Yeah! I give them that......also begrudgingly. :p It was a great season for them. Now, they have a new season about to start...the one that counts.

I like the pats a lot and Brady is my favorite QB so go them.

Not happy that Moss broke Jerry's record even though jerry did it in 12 games not 16 ;)

Now it would be farkin hillarious to see them bounced out of the playoffs ;)

I have a dislike for all sports teams from New England area. I'm probably just a bitter Cubs fan tired of waiting since 1908 :)

Sore losers. :p

I have never been a Patriot fan, and indeed pooh pooh'd them through their first couple of Super Bowls. But as soon as I saw them pick up Moss I was telling anybody who would listen...

Even so I did not expect THIS. Glad it happened though. Those Miami guys were the epitome of no class with their parties and potshots, and just to have them shut up was reward enough. As was getting to see history. Its kind of like the 72 win Bulls -- not my team, but I can now say that I've seen the best. Oh, and just for you Niners fans -- Randy Moss is the most talented receiver in the history of the game. Didn't say he was the best -- Rice's work ethic I think puts him above everyone. But Moss is a force of nature that has never been seen before at that position, and he's the only receiver wiht any remote chance to catch any of Jerry's ridiculous records (TDs).

P.S. As an aside, with Shula up there sliming the broadcast booth with his cackling it just had to happen, but has there EVER been a closer call to break up such a season than that Baltimore game? That was amazing in and of itself.

As glad as I am that they did it, it won't mean anything if they can't win the Superbowl. I think the pursuit of the TD passing/reception records did as much to jeopardize their chances at 16-0 as anything else. Now everybody's playing for the same thing with the same pressure. I like their chances.

I'm a Broncos fan as well as a Pats fan and I used to think the '72 Dolphins were cute until 1998 when Bob Griese was rooting against his own son's team, at that point it became pretty evident that these guys were bitter old men that couldn't stand the prospect of sharing their limelight with anyone else, even their own family.

And hoopsfan wins the thread.
In your eyes she wins the thread. However, being a Pats fan, I think it was historic to see all the records being broken by one team. They broke many records in one season:

- The Pats went 16-0
- Tom Brady, who is my favorite QB, broke Peyton Manning's record of 50 touchdowns
- Had 75 touchdowns this year
- Broke the most points in a season
- Randy Moss broke the record of touchdown caught by a receiver

With all the records the Pats broke in one season, I think that's phenomenal. Even if it wasn't the Pats and it was another team, I still would be amazed. How many teams can achieve this much in one season? I say not too many teams.

However, with all the records that the Pats have broken, if they don't win the Superbowl, then all this is for not.

GO PATRIOTS!

That post made me sick to my stomach.

I am a Colts fan, but I never "hated" the Patriots until this season. I guess it started last season when Bill Belichick blew Solomon Wilcots off, but it really came through this season after Spygate and with the way they gave off an air of arrogant superiority that really drove me crazy. Being a Colts fan, I hate to hear Tom Brady regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL, and that only got worse this season with the records and the wins and everything. So seeing you point to all of those things as a reason to enjoy what the Patriots did is kind of ironic, because those are the reasons I can't stand the sight of them.

And to speak to Brick's comment about seeing history happen, that doesn't make it any better in my opinion. My only hope is that either a) Jacksonville pounds the living daylights out of the Patriots in the divisional round, or b) the Colts go to Foxborough in the Championship game and beat them in front of their own fans.

I enjoy seeing history happen. I'd just prefer to watch it happen to a team I like. I'll be rooting for the Steelers and Colts and maybe some other teams rather than the Patriots.

If they make it to the Super Bowl, then I probably wouldn't mind history happening, especially if it was against the Cowboys or Packers.

Get used to it :D

You reap what you sew. If your GM hadn't used his role on the competition committee to stack the rules in favor of high octane passing attacks I'm sure the Patriots would have been content grinding out close games and everyone that wasn't a Pats fan could continue to write Brady off as a boring system only guy. I prefer a more well balanced running attack that sets up the pass but I have to admit I sure enjoyed watching Brady, Moss and Welker rack up the numbers this year. Just glad they got all the milestones out of the way and can get back to playing serious football when it counts.

Um, you like TOTALLY missed the point, Rock.

1. hoopsfan is a Lakers fan.
2. hoopsfan is not a Patriots fan.
3. hoopsfan was paraphrasing my traditional "Die Lakers scum," which I personally thought was funny.

My comment wasn't about the Patriot accomplishment and I'm sorry if you took it that way. My comment was more about the clever use of a phrase she has seen numerous times slightly changed to match HER POV.

I rooted for the Patriots almost all year. Tom Brady was my QB on one of my fantasy teams, remember?

Sorry if my attempt at humor was not read that way.

Major props to Tom Brady and the Patriots. It's not an easy feat and, sour grapes aside, I cannot imagine an NFL fan who doesn't appreciate what they accomplished.

You know, I don't see your team (Colts) breaking any records. Why is it that you hate to hear Tom Brady breaking the record? Is it because Peyton Manning is on the Colts and you just didn't want the record to be broken?

Like I said in my earlier post, I would have been amazed if it was another team that broke all those records, fortunately,it just happened to be MY favorite team that did.

Just standing back semi-objectively I would say obviously you would not want your own guy's record to be broken -- that's hardly surprising. But nonetheless what Brady did was rather more spectacular even than the record because he had to do it playing outside in Boston rather than inside in a cozy dome. Put him in a dome and what does he have? 55? 60?

Probably the same reason why Superman doesn't like hearing Tom Brady breaking the record...because he didn't want anyone breaking Peyton Manning's record. However, to be truthful, if someone broke T. Brady's record, I still would be in amazement...just don't do it too soon. :p

I don't want to turn this into anything about Colts vs. Patriots or anything like that. Remember, I, as a Colts fan, started the thread...

That having been said, Bill Polian, as a member of the competition committee, played a role in the long-standing rules regarding defensive holding and illegal contact down the field being enforced, when they hadn't been for several seasons. The rules are the rules; when they're not being enforced and your team suffers because of it, are you supposed to eat your words? What would want your team to do?

Secondly, I have NEVER called Tom Brady a system quarterback. I have repeatedly said that I would have voted for Tom Brady to win the MVP award last season, over LaDanian Tomlinson and Peyton Manning. I have, however, scoffed at the idea that he's better than Peyton Manning (and, by extension, guys like Dan Marino who never won a Super Bowl) because he played on a superior team that won three Super Bowls. But enough about that.

My point is simply that I don't like the Patriots for various reasons, and because I am a Colts fan, I hated to see Peyton Manning's records broken (touchdowns, passer rating [edit: upon further investigation, he did NOT wind up breaking Manning's 2004 record of 121.1 passer rating for a season; he came in second all-time at 117.2), especially by his arch-nemesis, Tom Brady. Congratulations all the same, but I hate seeing it done by the Patriots.

I didn't mean for anything to be taken personally, Rock.

However, I DON'T, as a Colts fan, like the Patriots. I dislike Tom Brady, but still respect what he has done as a football fan. I continue to lose respect for Belichick, so I hate to see him gain more respect and credit as one of the best football coaches of all time, and 16-0 does nothing but add to his reputation.

And, as a Colts fan, seeing Peyton Manning's three-season-old record go down is pretty dissatisfying, especially when it's broken by the guy who is widely regarded as a superior player/quarterback/leader, when I disagree with that opinion. I don't see how any other fan would feel any differently.

(Less importantly to me, I dislike seeing Randy Moss break Jerry Rice's record. And it doesn't help that it was just two seasons ago that the Colts had a good chance to be the first team to go 16-0.)

As I stated earlier, I don't want to turn this thread into anything about the Colts. I started it to acknowledge the Patriots' accomplishments, albeit begrudgingly. But I could go on all day long about how I feel about Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots.
