Lottery position thread

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Wow. Didn't realize they'd turned it into some sort of... beauty pageant.
I now understand why lottery witnesses have begun complaining about how long they have to wait without restroom access (they are locked into the room before the drawing begins, and have to stay there until the announcement is made).

?

I haven't actually watched it in some years -- but that was the format almost from the beginning.

And here's the '99, in the modern (pingpong ball) format. Looks like they've cut the boring speeches and get it all over with in a couple of minutes now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYFTL13fgLg

Guess I always got my news on it in edited & predigested format a little after the fact, since the lottery falls during the 6 months a year when my TV is little used, and it's been a long time since it mattered. This year, however, I think I'm going to watch.

Um, maybe you don't get it. Here's the deal. People are different. We have different opinions. SOME of us CARE about the LAKERS LOSING.

GOT IT??

It's a discussion forum where people have DIFFERENT opinions?

GOT IT?

I appreciate that you don't care. Fine. Some of us do. What difference does it make? NONE!

I'm sorry, I thought this website was called Kingsfans.com not Lakerhaters.com. My mistake!

Oh, wait! You mean...I wasn't wrong? This is a site for KINGS FANS, who...you would think...are more worried about the SACRAMENTO KINGS and what is good for the KINGS rather than some stupid rivalry that hasn't existed in like 3 years.

Wow.

Who woulda thunk.

I hate the Lakers. Sorry if that offends you.

(And I thought I already responded to this? Curious...)

I think he's offended that you hate the lakers more than you love the kings. Personally, I don't understand why you hate the lakers so much, it's not like there is a real rivalry going on or something.

Lots of us Kings fans hate the Lakers. I don't know a single Kings fan who hates them more than we love the Kings. Why would you say that?

If I wasn't a Kings fan, I'd probably be ambivalent about the Lakers. So I don't know where you're coming from to accuse me of something that's not true.

I didn't mean to say that's what you are, I meant to say that's what I think that guy thought about you. Personally I don't care either way, to each his own.

I just don't really understand why some people hate the lakers so much. There's really no reason to hate anyone but Robert Horry.

In your opinion it's only Horry.

But I think many of us remember the Phil Jackson comments and Kobe's fake food poisoning excuse.

I'm just saying that there are still many of us Kings fans out here who hate the Lakers. I realize that some don't. Which is fine if that's their view.

Let's try and be civil. I apologize for being rude. Vlade is right...it seems to me that you would rather have the Lakers miss the playoffs than to see the Kings get a better pick, thus helping the franchise out in the long run. We really are at the point where 1 win could mean the difference between Oden/Durant or Hibbert/Hawes/Brewer/Horford and a late loterry pick and getting some project big man or another freakin swingman who will need 2 yrs to develop.

One win. It just seems to me that if you'd sacrifice that just to knock the Lakers out of the playoffs (which will also help them in the long run by getting a better draft pick, and with David Stern running things...well, who knows how high of a pick they'd get...), that you hate the Lakers more than you love the Kings.

I get that we all have our own opinions. Heck, I bailed on this season before a lot of Kings fans. I just don't get your logic. One night of satisfaction is worth the next few seasons of "Dang it! We drafted Splitter and he is terrible while X player is already an All-Star!"

the lakers that we knew and hated... are gone. if i remember correctly, it was shaq, not kobe, who said most of the stuff during the rivalry. all the guys i hated are gone; shaq, george, horry, malone (yeah, i hated malone), rick fox.

i actually like the guys they have now. i like bynum, who continues to improve under kaj, walton who plays within himself perfectly, odom, the glue that keeps their team together, and even ronnie turiaf, who brings energy off the bench as a hustle big man. i even think kobe has matured into the leader that he never had to be with shaq and a veteran team.

maybe some of this residual hatred everyone seems to have is also envy/jealousy. they deal away arguably the most dominant center to play the game not named wilt, yet still get a potential all star center, AND a previous no 1. draft pick center, while we play 6'7" corliss and lost the will to win reef in the middle. WE deal away the closest thing to a hall of famer, and we get bloody fricken k9.

its time to move on people. rivalrys only exist at the height of competition. otherwise, its just people getting into fights and pretending that passes as passion (nate robinson anyone?). there will be new rivalries.

theys still wear yellow and whatever the name of that blue color is? Then I still hate them. I hate everything that franchise stands for. It's an abomination and I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry Buss has sold his soul to the devil. The Lakers are the epitome of EVERYTHING that is wrong with sports. (there's not much, but whatever there is wrong in sports - it's found in the lakers). I will always hate them and it doesn't matter who plays for them, as long as you lace em up in those colors, you will be hated.

The epitome of what is wrong with sports? Really now? Care to elaborate on WHY?

I don't agree with that at all. Red Sox/Yankees is a rivalry forever, no matter how good or bad either team is. How I feel about the Lakers could somewhat be compared to how a Red Sox fan feels about the Yankees.

I'm sorry, but no. lakers/kings will never compare to redsox/yankees.

At this point it is funny that the "rivalry" argument keeps coming up. Like a person will just stop their feelings because you have decided that no rivalry exists. "Thank you, I feel much better now. Kobe rules."

If people still feel a certain way, guess what? That is their right and you have no business telling them how they should feel.

Some of us would still hate LA even if they did not have an NBA franchise, maybe you are the one who should "move on".

/end rant

You don't need to be condescending about it. And honestly I don't care at all about the lakers playoff hopes(actually I do, will love to see them swept) and whether they make it or not. I care about MY TEAM, not someone a team I dislike. The Lakers are stuck in mediocrity no matter what, we have a chance to maybe end our mediocrity and start climbing back up. I'd rather get a better player for free than see LA miss the playoffs. Also if they make the POs we get to see them get blown out 3 or 4 times.

OK, so here's our plan for the Lakers game.

If you dunk on Kobe's face, you get 10 points; head, 5 points; shoulders, 2 points; back, 1 point. If you can't get Kobe under the basket, you may pretend that there is a basket over him and dunk on him anyway. Other actions which embarass him get no points, but may be taken into consideration in the event of a tie. The winner earns the affection of fans for years to come.

Our other objective is to screw the Lakers up for the forseeable future by giving them a lousy draft pick. Josh McRoberts or worse, while we get Hibbert or better.

Vengeance will be ours!!!

There, does that feel better?

every1 can feel how they want about the lakers, its no skin off my back. regardless if you love them or hate them, if you are a basketball fan, you have to acknowledge what their entire franchise has accomplished over the years.

i will say this, blindly hating organizations for the sake of hating them with no substantiated claim presented other than colors and the analysis that they have some pact with lucifer is ludicrous to say the least (look, i got some alliteration in). :p

Make no mistake. I detest LA, but we agree on this point. In the end, all that matters is what is good for the Kings.

Here's the crappy thing about tonight -- we took care of business, but so did EVERY other one of our competitors. The competition remains brutal, and we jsut have no breathing room. Have no choice but to find a way to lose to teh Clips. Hope that somehow the Hornets are still breathing when we face them, hoep the Lakers need that last game. One win could still easily maroon us out at #10 or #11 as the "best" terrible team. Nerve wracking. Be glad when this season is over.

Almost every lottery team that played today lon (sole exception: 3rd place Milwaukee wost by 2 to 2nd place Boston, not that it matters to anyone), so it's a good thing we lon too!

However, Philly seems more interested in helping Igoudala's try for MIP than they are at helping their franchise's lottery position, so it could be worse.

1. Memphis
2. Boston
3. Milwaukee
4. Atlanta
5. Seattle 31-48
6. Portland 31-47
7. Charlotte 32-48
8/9/10. Sac/Minnesota/NY 32-47
11. Philadelphia 33-45
