And he took to them to the cleaners on the buyout reportedly

Buyout Reached For Webber
Jan 10 - Chris Webber apparently has played his last game with the 76ers. A source told the Daily News late last night that Webber and the Sixers had agreed on the terms of a buyout of the remainder of his contract, and that the details could be finalized as soon as today.
The source said that Webber, who will become a free agent, would give back less than $5 million in the deal. -- Philadelphia Daily News
Tuesday's report ...

Chris Webber, communicating through a team spokesperson, said he would not talk to the media. However, after returning to the gym to work on his shooting, he told the Associated Press he wouldn?t play against Detroit tonight, adding that he was unsure whether he?d ever again play for the Sixers.
"I've been talking to them for a long time," Webber told the Associated Press when asked if the team was trying to buy out his contract.
Webber has made his displeasure with the team?s losing apparent -- and also made clear that, at his age, enduring a rebuilding process isn?t what he wants. -- Delaware County Daily Times

Webber also has not given his coach any indication that he does not want to be with the team anymore. "No, he has not -- not at all," coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Chris is a total professional -- his injuries have set him back a little but when he's here, he's with us, he's traveling with us. While he didn't play, he was cheering everybody while he's on the bench, giving guys tips during practice. So, no he has not given us any indication." -- Cherry Hill Courier-Post

Webber remains in limbo as buyout talk continues

Different article, much of the same information....

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2726276

PHILADELPHIA -- The next time Chris Webber suits up for an NBA game, it likely won't be as a 76er.

WebberWebber appears on his way out of Philadelphia as the team prepares to finalize details of a contract buyout that, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, could be completed as soon as Wednesday.
Webber was expected to travel with the Sixers for Wednesday night's game in New York.
"We'll wait (until tonight) to see what happens," coach Maurice Cheeks said Tuesday. "He's been out for such a long time. We take Chris day by day."
While Webber reportedly has confirmed the buyout talk, Cheeks said the player has continued to go about his business in a positive way.
"Chris has been as professional as he can be around the players helping the young guys, trying to teach them certain things," Cheeks said.
Tuesday night, Webber sat out Philadelphia's 98-89 loss to Detroit officially with foot and ankle injuries, the 10th game he's missed in the last 13. He is a free agent after this season and would be required to give back less than $5 million to the Sixers in a buyout, a source told the Daily News.
A buyout would extend a period of upheaval for the Sixers, who dealt Allen Iverson to Denver in a blockbuster mid-December trade. At 9-25, Philly has the worst record in the Eastern Conference and is tied with the Grizzlies and the Bobcats for fewest wins in the league through Tuesday.
Webber, 33, was acquired by the Sixers from Sacramento in February 2005 as part of a six-player deal. He has been derailed by right ankle and foot injuries this season, appearing in only 18 of 34 games. He is averaging 11.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in 30.2 minutes and had career averages of 21.6 points and 10.1 rebounds entering this season.

Veteran's minumum before trade deadline?

At this point, what do we have to lose?
Might be nice to let him retire a King.

Vet minimum ONLY I could maybe see it, but like VF says, I think his time in Sac (as a player) has passed.

If he does accept a buyout, does anyone know offhand when he is allowed to sign with a new team?

And, if he's getting a buyout of his next two seasons for $35 million (instead of the roughly $40 million he would have "earned"), that is one hell of a deal for CWebb.

I would like to see it. It would be fun and you are right - what do we have to lose? We may even discover that Cwebb still has some in the tank and can contribute in the right situation.

I don't want to see Webber back, because he was treated pretty shabbily around here at the end. He doesn't need to come back for more of that and I don't want to see it or read more of it. Besides, if he doesn't want to play for a rebuilding 76ers, why in the world would he even want to play for Sac?

All I want now is to see his jersey in the arena. He deserves it.

Did I miss something? Webber was traded! Trades happen all the time in the NBA, it's a business. What is this "shabby" treatment I hear about? I believe he received shis salary and now he's getting paid 40+ million over the next two year to do nothing!

I need some of that shabby treatment!

I wasn't referring to being traded. I was referring to the pretty virtriolic criticism and booing heaped on him toward the end. And I'm always amazed that some people actually think lots of money guarantees happiness and job satisfaction and people couldn't possibly want more out of life.

But he was treated badly by the fans and by certain people in the Sac media (Voisin comes to mind!) I'd love to see Webb back (although I know it's a pipe dream) but I'd hate to see him get boo'd at again by the fans. But, at this point, what do we have to lose? We could hardly blame him for messing up our winning season??

Regardless, I am happy that Cwebb is out of Philly. I hope he signs with a team that can use him!! Realistically, do you guys think he'll be picked up by another team this season? How does that work?

Wonder if Houston just got their new PF? Or Miami got new veteran reinforcements?

I agree about around here -- while it might be amusing to see Grant sputter and backtrack, and I think the new sense of perspective might cause people to reassess all the Webb venom that was floating around, he's not a player that can really elevate us anymore, and if we keep on losing he gets more **** thrown his way. Or if we win a few more then we screw ourselves out of the top pick that comes with sucking. Better for him, and probably us, if he goes elsewhere to chase a ring.

If Webber came back I think there would be a lot of unrealistic expectations by more casual fans.

My personal thought is if we signed him for the minimum and he promised to retire at the end of the season it would be a nice way to go out but it's never going to happen.

I'm also pretty sure he thinks he can still be a factor in this league, I wish him luck in finding a team that will somehow allow that.

I appreciate what you are saying. I just find that what we in Sacramento believe to be "shabby treatment" is nothing compared to most major markets.

I can only imagine what was said on Philly talk radio when Chris was missing games for his various illnesses this year.

Sacramento media is puffery compared to most places. I think even when some fans were booing it was still very mild.

True, I'm sure the flak Webb got in Sac was probably nothing compared to what he got in Philly. However, Webb did a lot more for Sac then for Philly, so you'd expect he'd get a little more respect. I do feel like Webb got a lot of cr*p here, considering that he had poured his heart & soul into this team & never gave less than his best.

You can't compare 76ers and Kings. He doesn't feel the same for the Kings and 76ers,Sacramento is his home.
I'd personally like to see him in Kings jersey again cuz' Kings game can't get worse right? On the other hand,I don't think they would sign him again, still who knows, they signed Williamson after he was in Philly...

No point for him to be here, he doesn't want to be on a rebuilding team which we will be soon enough.

I hope he gets a championship, I love the guy, he was my favorite player when he was in his prime here.

Saw on espn....

about the Webber buyout and that three teams he most likely will end up with is eithe the Knicks,Pistons, or Lakers. If he does go to the Lakers do we still cheer him when he comes back or boo him since he is wearing the laker purple and gold?

If he goes to the Lakers I would seriously cry. I hated it when Vlade was there, and it was only tolerable because he really didn't play. I don't think I could stand to CWebb playing with Kobe!

I actually thought about CWebb going to the Lakers when I first heard this news...the Lakers are a team, after all, trotting out Brian Cook and Vlad Radmanovic at PF these days with all of their injuries. I don't know if CWebb could fit into the triangle offense quickly, or whether he could fit into the Lakers' defensive schemes, but that team seems to offer him the best opportunity for playing time on a "contender" at this point. He'd be blind not to see that the Heat are a sinking ship, and most of the other playoff teams out West will not be able to offer him guaranteed minutes.

Edit: I'm a CWebb fan first and foremost, but seeing him in a Laker jersey would be weird, as would be following the Lakers every night to check up on him...I usually just check to see if the Lakers lost.

I agree with you. I am thrilled that Cwebb is out of Philly & has a chance to go somewhere where he can end his career in a better situation, but seeing him on the Lakers would just feel so WRONG!

I don't think he'd go to LA, they ae still building, and Phil Jackson has no use for him. The rumors are that the Mavs are going to take a look at him. That is the kind of place he'd want to go. A team with a chance at a championship.

#29
I would be absolutely shocked if he didn't end up in Detroit. They may even be able to get Jalen Rose when all is said and done too. That would be just too perfect.

Hes basiclly only interested in championship contender teams right now, and i dont blame him, theres not much time left on his clock and he wants a ring, which eliminates any chance of him coming back to Sac.
