Allen Iverson thread - DAY TWO

I don't know what I would do if Petrie brought in Iverson.. I guess the first thing I would say to myself is "expletive!! That expletive dummy. I thought that Petrie expletive had some kind of genius level IQ."

AI is not the answer people. The Kings are one big man, and a couple bench players away from contending again. AI would just be another guy wanting the ball. He does not fit our style of play.

We get AI we win 25 games this year.

My impression is that this is 90% Maloof.

I don't have ESPN insider but the tease said

Could Iverson and Artest exist together?

Some think it would turn the team's locker room into World War III. Some think it would make the team -- hands down -- the toughest crew pound-for-pound in the NBA.

Joe Maloof thinks it would be a match made in heaven.

does anybody have any insight on Joe's comments

Got this from ezekielbearsports.com

Talks will continue tomorrow between the Kings and Sixers.

The Bobcats are no longer in the mix as Iverson has denied a trade. That deal was going to be completed until Iverson refused to report.

The Wolves and Clippers are joining last ditch efforts

Bibby,Garcia,Williamson or Potapenko and a first for Iverson,Ollie, filler is on the table. That is the offer from the 76ers. The Kings brass made the choice to sleep on it.

Other offers, as I said, with the Clipps and Wolves will most likely come in through the night...but...it is up for the Kings to accept or deny, at this moment.

IF the trade is agreed, it may not be completed until Friday depending on filler for the Sixers (as a few players on their roster can not be moved until the 15th)

As of right now, this is the Kings trade to complete or deny. Going into tomorrow, who knows...but it's on the table right now.
And, this is NOT a Maloof inspired move. They had little to do with this at the start.

Ok mentioned this in the other thread and most people who replied were against it. They reason I bring tradeing Kevin(eventhough he is my favourite player) is that he will not be nearly as effective with A.I. demanding the ball more. Kevin relies on ball movement. We trade Kevin only to upgrade our front court though.
I would consider it, even though he seems, at this point, to be the future of the team, to try to balance out the team's strengths and weaknesses. And I wouldn't demand a big name for him either, that would be both difficult to arrange and hell on the payroll budget. But for someone like David Lee or Andris Biedrins, if their contract had a few years on it, I would be sorely tempted. I'd want a forecourt equivalent of Kevin -- a young guy who is all upside.

I think a deal that my go down between Minn and sixers is: Iverson for Foye (young and takes over the pg spot), Davs (has a year left and takes starting spot while Carney grows), Jaric (could start if Foye is not ready) and Griffin is a filler.
I think you're forgetting they don't want a bunch of players in trade - they'll have to just start cutting guys then. They have a pretty full roster.

It is going to have to be at least one player with a sizeable salary coming back to them.

You seriously think we'd go 16-47 the rest of the year?

At this point, if this deal doesn't go down, we are going to have to trade Bibby anyway. Agents know what is being discussed. Especially Mike's agent (one David Falk I believe). When a guy has an option to opt out and then you not only dangle him, but ferociously fight to outbid other teams in a potential trade with his name front and center...let's just say we can count on no loyalty back the other way now. We traded all his teammates, axed his coach, and now are dangling him.

I like change especially when we we got isn't working. Hell what do I do with my 3 Bibby jerseys. And will SAR give up his # to AI. As bad as I hate to say this if we don't get a big man somehow we don't need to trade KT or else MO or Pot will get more PT.

One question I have: If AI nixed the alleged Charlotte trade proposal, is there a chance he attempts to nix this one?

Of course, that's when the Maloofs swoop in with their 6,000 dollar combo meals and offer up the basketball suite at the Palms, right?

strange feelings

I dont know but I have strange feelings inside that the Maloofs are wining and dining King at their plush Palms Penthouse Suite now......maybe eating a $6 burger too.

I will be excited to see AI here to say the least.

I think you are correct here; or I suppose the alternative would be to just let him walk and use the cap room.

But I was thinking about this earlier, who is the 'face of the franchise' if this actually goes down? Clearly Artest wants to be the focal point of any team he is on and, I think, just as clearly, that won't be the case if Iverson is on the team with him. I know these are minute points, but if chemisty is a concern...

Well to start the season we were running Musselmans motion offense and Kmart thrived in that. Bibby didn't so he asked to change back to the high posting corner offense. Since then we lost 5 straight and Martin hasn't had over 20 since and we don't have fastbreak points anymore except off steals.

Please, PLEASE, tell me you're not hoping we're getting Iverson because you think that's going to get back to Martin getting 20ppg. Not gonna happen.

I have always really liked Iverson from an individual talent point of view -- dude can flat out play -- but have always liked that I am able to enjoy watching him play on someone else's team. I just have a bad feeling about this move, if it goes through. I think things are too volatile. Does the team need to be shaken up? No doubt. But I think that the fallout from this trade could end up more like the chaos and catastrophe of the 1906 quake, than the soothing relief of the footsie-wootsie machines at the county fair.

He's Iverson, and he's insanely talented, and he's a future HOFer... so of course you have to look into it, and maybe go for it and hope it works out. And maybe it does, and maybe I'm wrong, and maybe everything works out all hunky dunky. But... I dunno... I've got serious reservations.

I'm with you on the reservations...I really am. But I can't stand a whole season like this, and when you have a chance to land the top scorer in the league, you do it. Given Bibby's contract status, etc., I think it's worth a shot. Dangerous, yes, but a move worth taking, IMHO.

If only that was a guarantee. What I'm afraid of is that we'll erect a paper tiger that sneaks into the playoffs, or get very close. That would suck so much, especially if reports are accurate about us giving up a 1st.

Giving up a pick is too much, and severely limits us going into the summer.

This is starting to sound really bad.

If the Maloofs are gamblers, they should put all their chips into the lottery.

Indeed his agent is ONE David Falk...but lest we not forget that Petrie let Bonzi walk amidst plenty of rumors, etc. I think that GP just lets him walk and we take the money if we dont get the trade for AI. Just my 2 pennies...

Celtics, Warriors And Kings Lead Hunt For Iverson 12th December, 2006 - 12:27 am Newsday -
Boston was in the hunt for Allen Iverson on Monday, with a deal that would include Al Jefferson and Theo Ratliff with his $11.7-million contract.

Jefferson said neither Rivers nor general manager Danny Ainge had spoken with him about it. "I don't want it to happen, especially my name involved in it," Jefferson said. Told after the game that Jefferson doesn't want to be traded, Rivers said: "He won't be. I try to stay out of it because I have to coach the players and I don't want to lie to the players. But I'm pretty comfortable in saying that Al will be here."

The Sixers reportedly want to include forward Chris Webber, who has $43 million remaining on his contract, but teams are backing away at that idea.

Golden State and Sacramento also appear to be among the teams most likely to acquire Iverson.

Indiana emerged Monday as a strong player, with discussions centering around Jamaal Tinsley and Stephen Jackson.

So you're saying that we'll only win 16 of our remaining 60 games?? C'mon, AI isnt THAT much of a cancer...and if this trade DOES go down, it would probably give us Iggy and Dalembert(not the greatest of young centers I know, but still good nonetheless).

Well that would be yummy. Soon therafter maybe we can just let one Geoff Petrie walk as well as he will have a done a remarkable job of completely wiping out our talentbase in the space of about 3 years and will be living off of one good late round pick.

If any of the other rumors that have been tossed around are even remotely true, every other team making offers seem to be trying to feed Philly toasted dung in a dirty ashtray. No wonder the Kings are seemingly 'in front.'

Agreed...I know Jefferson is a great talent, but he + Ratliff << Iverson.
