Fans are lining up and camping out for Playstation 3

It has nothing to do with the game itself. A lot of these people want to purchase it simply to re-sell it on ebay for three times it's value. And now of course violence is erupting as a result of this hot item. There has been one shooting and many scuffles. It really disgusts me to see how aggressive people will get nowadays over shopping and a good deal. And it isn't even Black Friday yet! Just what kind of nonsense are we going to see happen then??

What sucks is the PS3 wasn't on my radar until last week when my PS2 died on me. The same day that guitar hero 2 came out, right after playing the first song... I'm borrowing one right now but I'd hate to buy another one now that the PS3 is out. Hopefully I can get one easily enough after Christmas is over. I was leaning towards a Wii instead.

Fortunately for me, all my son's favorite games are on Gamecube, and I haven't bought a new game for myself since '02... so, **** the PS3; by the time I get around to buying one, they'll probably be on the PS5.

The gamer nerd that lives inside of me is busting at the seems to take the PS3 for a test drive, but her far more practical (read: broke) counterpart wouldn't dare spend $600.00 for a brand spankin' new gaming console that's got more bugs than it has decent games.

Unfortunately, there will be a few who pay that for an empty box! The ongoing maketing "shortages" built in by manufacturers for publicity are a farce. They just make me refuse to play!

I have to believe the shortages are legit, its not like Microsoft or Sony are getting the extra profits on $4000 Playstations and Xboxes. Plus PS3 has competition with the Wii and the now readily available 360. I'm shocked people are paying such ridiculous prices for the PS3 when there are other options, especially considering the reaction it got at E3.

I remember my mom getting my sister a "Doll Baby," which was pretty much the K-Mart version of CPK, and saying that there was no way in the world that she was going to pay $100 for a doll...

She eventually relented and got her one... after the price fell under $30...

2 people here in the Big No were injured during a stampeede at Best buy for PS3. there have been robberies and violence out side stores all across the country... I don't blame the manufacture for the acts of morons but it is inherntly unsafe to "relese" a product with such limited avalialbity and local law enforcment ought to break these lines up as a public nusence.

I just saw on the news that here in Chicago, there was like a huge line outside Best Buy and 2 people got shot. Can't believe some people will risk their lives for an electronic.

I completely agree. In my city there is an ordinance against loitering at a closed business. In my opinion, they should break these lines up and allow them to form starting at 7:00am the day of the sale. If the store opens at 10:00am, that gives them plenty of time.....Why should the store or mall have to pay for extra security and arrange restrooms etc for them?

Unfortunately, the people sitting and waiting can also become crime targets, since they are known to have money. Many are young and only carry cash.

The stores want the people camped out, and that's the problem. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, they actually do benefit from the idiots that camp out and come to the store daily hoping to catch a new shipment due to these shortages. A lot of times those people make impulse purchases or maybe after camping out all night for their kid they can't come home with nothing so they buy a few games for an older system to make up for it. They love all the extra traffic.

I was just at the mall and as I was walking into Sears, there was a sign on the door.."We are not selling PS3" I thought that was kinda funny.

400,000 shipped PS3 to a compared 4 million shipped Wii's. I'm sure the violent madness and ridiculous ebay sellings won't come about with nintendo shipping out that many units. A friend of mine is picking his preorder up tommorow.
That's crazy. What's so good about this one anway?
It blows up a rubiks cube and paints your walls, haven't you seen the commercial? Since I don't plan on having my walls painted rubiks color anytime soon, I'm hoping to pick up a Wii tommorow if they have any left in stock.

Were there big lines for the Wii? I saw a few people camping out yesterday afternoon at Best Buy, but I've also heard availability isn't going to be an issue. I remember when the Game Cube came out they were easy to find compared to the original Xbox.

From what I've heard, the initial shipments of the Wii will preclude both long lines AND a lot of people making money off Ebay.

Sony created a false shortage purposefully. They could easily have shipped an adequate supply but chose instead IMHO to make sure they got a lot of press about the long lines, etc. If I were going to buy a system, that tactic alone would have me looking at Wii instead.

and I failed to get one.. couldn't even buy an extra controller.

At Folsom they have 100+ people and only 20 units. Was at a friends house and he called every store from and between Folsom to Woodland and all they could tell us was sold out/long lines.

I just dug out my Nintendo64. I'm going to play Dragon Warrior again...

I actually like the "classic" look of some games over the graphics-intensive stuff they offer nowadays. It used to be, IMHO, more about true game playing and less about pretending to be part of the game.

And when I get done with Nintendo, I may just grab the Atari2600.

:D
