Why we need a shotblocker and this Kenny/Reef frontline DOESN'T work

#1
I think we're all seeing it right now. GS penetrates with BDiddy getting past Bibby or using a pick&roll, then either they get a lay up or our D collapses so they get an open 3. If we had a shotblocker or even Miller our defense wouldn't have to collapse as much and then instead of thinking they can get a lay up whenever they want they'd be stuck passing the ball around the perimeter. Right now it's just penetrate, get the lay up or kick out, 2 or 3 points for sure.

Kind of funny that the thread starter is Brad Miller

Petrius and Davis have killed us tonight and that really had nothing to do with a shot blocker(would have been nice to guard Pietrus when he is open). If we do end up losing then just having an off night.

Davis got to the rim at will. You can't be telling me that a shotblocker wouldn't have stopped the warriors from getting some of those points.

I swear to god it's so funny how people were like "OMG TEH ADELMAN IS SO BAD DEFENSIVE COACH! MILLER IS SO BAD DEFENDER!" when our defense is better with Miller in there and our defense without him has been comparable to the defense under Adelman, maybe better than it. Bottom line is a coach can't turn water into wine, you can only do so much with the personnel you've been given and small ball midget front lines don't work.

Maybe its because Kenny Thomas sucks.
maybe its because i agree with you
he looks like a 5 year old out there

he either plays good....or plays like complete...excuse my french...crap

threw a pass to ronnie about 10 feet above his head....travels everytime he gets the ball....cant make layups
ahhh

AND YES WE DO NEED A SHOTBLOCKER

You can't put today's loss on SAR/KT frontline. It's solely on EM. SAR/KT is not the best of the frontlines in the league, but it's much better than the one where Corliss is the biggest inside presence. I'm not taking anything away from Corliss but he isn't a shot blocker nor a monster rebounder. So why did he play more minutes than SAR?? If I was Davis, I wouldn't have been impressed any more going against Corliss than facing Reef. I mean, I don't think Houston will sit out Yao against GS because he can't keep up with their pace. I'm not saying Reef is as good as Yao, but he is our best post player, not to mention the fact that nobody in the GS roster can stop Reef at will. I just don't see any logic in EM's decision today.

how can you predict something that has not happened?

he can block the lane up and knock some of those pesky baron davis' on their gluteous maximus'

SAR/KT was godawful trying to defend the rim. So was Corliss. Only guy who did anything to stop penetration was our new "PF", Ron Artest.

Smallball indeed.

Uh, ok, except Kenny played 17 minutes and Shareef played 21. Musselman **** a brick, simple as that. One of the worst coaching jobs I've ever seen.

We didn't have much of an interior presence on defense to start the season. Since Brad went down, that minimal presence has turned into a cool breeze. Our frontcourt is about as big as the average NCAA team's frontcourt right now and it's disgusting. The rebounding hasn't fallen off too much because we were already getting it done with a 5-man effort. What's become a problem is the last line of defense. We're an aggressive team that tries to put pressure on the ballhandler. Players will be able to beat their man off the dribble (especially on the 2nd night of a back to back) but it's what you do at the end of the play that makes the difference. Right now we don't even have guys that are tall or athletic enough to put a hand in little Monta Ellis/Chucky Atkins face when they go in for a layup. Look at the opposing point guard production since Brad went down. In fact, look at points allowed since he went down it's going up every game: 81, 86, 92, 111 and finally 117 allowed tonight catches up with us.

Gonna be interesting to see how Muss plays with the line-up against the Jazz and Spurs...I'm not looking forward to the prospects of seeing Mo Taylor and Potato being the only other big men available...ouch...

Our frontcourt is as big as Sac State's right now...smoke and mirrors wont work against the Spurs and Jazz...lambs to the slaughter comes to mind.

Kenny had 6 turnovers in 17 minutes and Shareef was letting everything get to the rim, even the little kid in the 7th row. What's he supposed to do? He didn't have any other options besides Corliss and Ron at PF and C, besides Potapenko and for some reason Musselmen hates him or something.
