Actually there are restrictions on sign-and-trades.

Under the sign-and-trade rule, the player is re-signed and immediately traded to another team. This is done by adding a clause to the contract which stipulates that the contract is invalid if the player's rights are not traded to the specific team within 48 hours.

And...

A sign-and-trade is treated like a single, atomic transaction, not two separate transactions between which one party can change its mind. The sign-and-trade clause makes the contract invalid if a trade to the specified team does not take place within 48 hours.

I dont know if anybody mentioned this but Grant did say that he did not believe that Bonzi would be back. He also said that he feels ripped off. The money is just not out there for him. He said the Kings are probably going in a different direction and that they might sign a player in the next 24-48 hours. He made it sound like there would be no sign and trade and that Bonzi would take a mid-level exception. This tells me he is very unhappy with the Kings.

Grant says Bonzi feels ripped off? Grant says they might sign a player in the next 24-48 hours?

He said the same thing on ... let me check my notes ... July 12.

I know. I am just worried about losing him for nothing. I think it would be tragic to lose that kind of value for nothing. But this also means that teams aren't willing to pony up the dough in a sign and trade either so Bonzi should just take what he can get and move on. The price of a house is determined by market not quality.

I'm not worried. If he thinks he can do better elsewhere, then more power to him. Obviously the offers haven't come flooding in or his agent would be all over the news touting them.

Bonzi and his agent had best be careful. At some point, Petrie is going to get tired of all this and simply tell them to pick up their marbles and find another playground.

I know if I were Geoff Petrie the last thing an agent would want to do is pressure me without a lot of ammo to back himself up with. I don't think Phillips has the ammo. If he's bluffing, Petrie is liable to call him on it and that could be bad for us but disastrous for Bonzi.

It sounds like he is pissed off at the Kings and would leave just to throw it in the face of the Kings. This is just now. It will probably be a different story tomorrow.

Its hard to compare Bonzi to other players because he is the kind of player that does a few things great, and other things poorly that teams could potentially be turned off by. He'll never be a big stat guy, so a lot of peoples opinions of him are different. Bonzi is a hustle guy with talent.

WHAT sounds like that?

Where are you getting this stuff?

NOTHING has been said by the Kings, by Bonzi or by his agent. It's quiet as a tomb as far as public statements go.

I honestly think some people are starting to read WAY too much into silence. I think it's patently unfair to decide Bonzi is pissed or anything else. We simply do not know.

Not to be a ***, but you told us that you have a good source that said Bonzi will not be a King next year, or something along those lines. And now we have the Joe's Crabshack syndrome even worse, because people take a lot of stock in what you say about the Kings. Now you say it is very quiet. We all have our opinions, and something has to be off with not hearing anything going on with Bonzi. I really think Bonzi owes everyone a heah, I'm still alive and still trying to working this deal out or something. He could of dropped off of the face of the planet and his agent is just shooting his mouth off starting rumors. It's all so very frustrating...something please happen already.

I bet they already agreed to take Wells back, but keeping it quiet and making it seem like he will be leaving just to mess with other GM's. Yeah, while they are playing their rounds of golf, they are not laughing at the other GM's but the Kings fans who are so nervously breaking down because nothing is happening when we still have 2 months of pre-season left.

Believe me, we are all anxious to know what is going on and frustrated at the delay. Is taking it out on VF going to speed things up or change the outcome?

Maybe you'd rather she does't share whatever bits she can and you'd not even have that much to go on?

Think before you post, especially in anger.

I'm listening to the Carmichael Dave show and he just mentioned something about Bonzi won't be coming back. They think it will be a sign and trade.
Thank you for the update.

With Harrington headed to the Pacers, I don't see Wells being part of that transaction anymore. There could still be a separate trade to Indiana, but I don't see that happening now. Harrington can score in the post and assuming that a trade between the two would involve Foster and S-Jask, the Pacers wouldn't have much shooting. A Tinsley, Jackson, Bonzi, Harrington, O' Neal lineup would have too many post players and too little shooting to be effective.

Denver doesn't seem to make sense either since Nene is no longer available in a sign&trade (even if he had a more reasonable contract). Maybe they would give up Camby for Bonzi, but K-Mart and Nene seems like to small and injury prone of a frontcourt for them bank on. We could potentially gamble on K-Mart if Denver took Thomas off our hands too.

The Knicks and Mavs have expressed interest, but I simply don't see them having the pieces to make a trade considering they would not give up the players we would want.

Without a three way trade, I don't think any of these teams would work out for a deal.

Who does this leave?

The Bucks would make sense, especially if it was a KT + Bonzi deal. I don't think they would give up one of their two remaining PGs. However, some combination of Simmons, Magloire, and Gadz would make sense.

The Warriors would make sense as well. Bonzi would fill their void at SF, although they would lack shooting like Indiana. However, I have much less faith in Mullins than I do in Walsh to be dissuaded by this fact. I could see us sending Bonzi + change to the Warriors for Pietrus and either Murph, Biedrins, Taft, or possibly Diogu (though I doubt they'd trade him). This would make even more sense if Petrie was dealing KT somewhere, e.g. for Magloire.

The Magic could be a dark horse. They're losing Deshawn Stevenson and want a big guard to pair next to Jameer Nelson. Lack of shooting and a crowded middle with Howard and Darko make it a long shot. However, sending Bonzi straight up for Dwight Howard would help both teams :D. Ok, wishful thinking. Though Bonzi for Ariza and Arroyo would work.

Hypothetically, if the Pistons wanted to shake things up and get more toughness and rebounding now that they have Wallace and McDyess as their frontcourt they could send Prince and a contract for Bonzi. I don't think they would give up on Prince though and shooting would again be an issue. Although Bonzi's O seems to fit Flip's style and Prince's D and shooting fits Muss'. Again though, I'm not banking on this.
