Kings Acquire Jake LaRavia

I don't think the average STH has the stomach for that with ticket price increases already locked in and 1 year of playoffs in the last two decades to show for it. This team can still be competitive night to night and send paying ticket holders home happy and maybe make the 2nd round of the playoffs. Considering where we have been this has more value than going right back into the toilet. It's about restoring some shine to ownership and our FO and the city as much as anything. We can tear down with Domas and Keegan out for picks if the next two years are a disaster.
Well, if we annoy enough STHs, then prices ought to come down.

In my mind, being stuck in the play-in for two more years would constitute a disaster.

I'll tell you the same thing that I told you when you asked about there being an injury list thread: it is within your ability to create that thread yourself. You don't have to wait for someone else to do it for you.
I meant in general i wasnt asking for someone to create it. Its 4am here and also English is not my native language in case i wrote something wrong.

I don't believe it. We traded for a chicken wing, not a basketball wing, right? Or he's Kessler Edwards in disguise. Or he's going to sit on the bench and get an occasional 5 minutes a game. Or, he will get to know Stockton up close and personal. One thing for sure: If the guy can really play, then someone's minutes is getting drastically reduced and it's not going to be Keegan, the best front court defender on the team, so maybe it's Lyles, the 2nd best front court defender on the team? So what would the net effect be? A slightly better Lyles? Or are we really going ape and believing DDR or Zach's minutes will be reduced? So many "I'll believe it when I see it" scenarios makes it perfect for this team.
He was averaging 21 minutes a game (47 games) for Memphis. I think he will likely play.

So, if we don't have Bird rights, but we like how he fits we can use some/all of MLE for him next year though, right?
The max we can pay him is under 6 mil a year it sounds like. That is the main reason Memphis let him go. They didn’t give him the qualifying offer or whatever. Basically any team that offers him more than 6 will likely get him. However I pointed out a guy like Jalen Smith who signed with Indiana on a cheap deal. I don’t think that is out of the question considering most teams don’t have cap space and want to stay under aprons

Unless this dude plays 30 mpg, he's likely retainable.

Very solid pickup at a great price.

C Sabonis/Valanciunas/???
PF Murray/Lyles/Crowder
SF DeRozan/Larravia/McDermott
SG LaVine/Ellis/Carter
PG Monk/???/???

The Kings can sign Isaac Jones to an NBA deal and make him the 3rd string center, but that still leaves a big hole at backup PG.

And Larravia is more of a 4 than a 3, so a another forward wouldn't hurt either.

Still a few moves to make, likely post deadline.
Isaiah Thomas.

I think most of us agree that Keon should be starting, but since he isn't, you're looking at a 10 man rotation of

Sabonis
Murray
DeRozan
LaVine
Monk

as your starters with a bench of Carter, Ellis.Larravia, Lyles, and Valanciunas. Not only does that give the reserves more size, but more scoring as well.

The Kings have had the second least scoring from their bench (only above New York where Thibs plays his starters 47 minutes a game) and definitely needed an upgrade there.

The bummer is that if he looks like a positive NBA player (which he already has), someone will likely sign him for somewhat more than what the Kings are allowed to
We'll have to see. This is a pretty loaded FA class. Even if so, there are plenty of options this summer for Monte. He might let the guy go and go after a Brown or someone anyway. This could be a test stopgap and nothing more.

I like it. How many times I checked boxscore this season and saw that our bench in the ongoing third quarter combined altogether for less than 10 points? I think against the Bulls on the road Bulls bench had more points than Bulls starters while our bench had something like 7 points?
I don't envy Doug Christie. Now it's completely on him to cook something from these ingredients. Personally - I like challenges. For Doug it's a BIG one :)
I read an article about LaRavia posted here. This season he plays better than expected on a loaded team. Was fighting for the minutes (naturally). Very good motor, good shooter, good finisher. Nothing to go crazy to go about his basketball skills and talent, but physical conditioning and overall improved game understanding fits well with me.

If DC plays that bench all at one time, fans are going to be calling for the units to be switched for sure, lol. All your physicality is there. LaRavia and Val are players always on the verge of injuring the other team and you have elite on ball defense at G.

We saw last year how much the "lower class" of the NBA started getting squeezed. So many value contracts in last FA and I just assume teams are going to remain broke moving forward. Might be able to squeeze a window here with him becoming an incredible value contract before teams really catch on to who he is as a player.

Regardless, it's an excellent bet to make. We win it, we have a legit starting caliber young wing potential. We lose, eh, cost you a couple 2nds and you got a good rotation piece for half a season

And that is Monte's specialty. He probably brings coupons to his contract signings.
