Jonas Valanciunas - KING

For real. You had the same reaction with Delon Wright and Tristan Thompson.

I’m not saying this trades a fail but I’m not convinced on the fit or ability at his age yet. I’m open to being convinced but it could also be Monte wasting more 2nd Rounders.
Who would you be pursuing in the trade market?

I don't remember the exact terms of the Delon Wright for TT deal but I did not view TT as a guy who projected to contribute, we didn't have a legitimate big man we were like Holmes and Bagley and Len and Metu. Plus had just drafted Queta. Waste of space and a roster spot. Jonas has a very defined role here and also a connection to several of our players.

Monte's reaction to Ham's question about size was great. Ham probably more upset this move takes his gripe away than happy the Kings got better
I can’t stand people like that. I’m sure he’ll make some snarky comment about “why didn’t they do this when Fox was there” as if it would have mattered. I sour on Fox every time he opens his mouth these days.

WOW... JV as a back-up C, that's a luxury :) True, he is VERY slow on defense. But that's it. Exceptional at rebounding. His size and length alone is a problem for the attacking team. Very strong too :)
Offensively he still has it. A bit in slow-mo, but he is not a starting C for a championship contender anymore.
JV is a very cool cat. Likes to joke. Locker room is going to be fun, as long as team has something to play for.
Among all the things that JV does well, I personally like his pressure on the offensive glass. 5-6 years ago Memphis played Hawks and I still remember the shot in the second half of Hawks bench during time-out. Two of Hawks bigs were soaking wet, eyes popping out and grasping for the air. That was the price to pay for boxing out JV. Yet they failed in their mission ;)

Now, go after Cam Johnson for 1st round. Start Lavine as PG, then DeRozan, Cam, Murray Sabonis. Off the bench Carter, Monk, Ellis, Jonas.
I don't think we can afford him, he's a 22-27m contract depending on where his likely bonus situation sits. I imagine not being an all-star has knocked some off the top.

The Kings now have a legit post up option off the bench. It was noticeable that Christie put Jones in the post the other night, and he did pretty well.

The defense is what it is, Jonas has the 4th highest freq% on post ups and is in the 78th percentile. This was the dynamic the Kings didn't truly have until now. Even Domas is only in the 49th percentile. In fact, only 3 players on the entire team qualified as post up players and DeMar was the best in the 64th percentile. Yeah, the Kings should have just gotten their bench offense HUB.

I was a little concerned about the lack of a ball handler off the bench, now with JV as a guy you can throw the ball to in the post and also in the mid post and as a screener that roster spot could go to a wing more comfortably instead of a PG.
