De'Aaron Fox Traded to Spurs for Zach Lavine, three first round picks

I think it’s hard to go wrong with either guy. Thing about Portis is he has that postseason history that we can rely on come April whereas Jonas’s big postseason highlight is him demolishing us in the playoffs-in last year n
Jonas actually had very good deep playoff runs with Raptors, and also a good showing for Pelicans when they took nr.1 seed Suns to 6 games. He definitely brings it in the playoffs

the other possibility is it’s Portis (that’s the vibe I’m getting from Sean but who knows) and then the Kings have a deal worked out for a buy out player. That might explain why Sean says one deal is basically done and one is likely. So for example the buy out player is Bruce Brown but only if they can’t find a trade for him.

Monk Carter
Lavine Keon
Deebo Brown
Keegan Portis
Sabonis Portis/IJ

Portis and Ben Simmons would do wonders for our size, defense, and bench scoring

I wasn’t a huge Fox fan but I think you all are doing a poor job of looking from his perspective. If we thought this team needed forwards what do you think Fox thought. And yet this team drafted a player whose primary position in the NBA was the same as Foxes 3 ****ing times. One other time they traded the pic to pay Domas.

We have well documented the Davion Draft and the slew of forwards still on the board.

Everyone on this board was slobbering over Ware at Miami. He was on the board when Monte picked Carter.

Maybe instead of blaming Fox train a bit of Venom at the GM who in 5 years failed to get this team any net forward help or length. Maybe Fox was as tired of it as some of the rest of us.
I think you’re doing a poor job of looking at it from everyone else’s perspective. Traded Hali because Fox wouldnt make it fit with him and got an all-star big, kept MB with an extension after he said he wanted no other coach, signed a first ballot future hall of famer in Deebo, brought his friend over and watched Monk blossom. Bottom line Fox couldn’t deliver

It's a good thing Monte continued to draft BPA. Otherwise we wouldn't have Domas and we wouldn't have a guard prospect after Fox forced his way out of town.

Situations like this are precisely why you never draft for need. You may have thought Fox was here forever and locked in... until he wasnt

Sac is going to want someone to fill the JMac role of emergency PG duties if they won’t let Carter get more minutes. Yes, Lavine can be a good ball handler as well but better hedge here
LaVine can bring up the ball occasionally but he is shaky against a press. Would be interesting to see how they fare against the Pelicans who employ the press effectively to limit our transition offense.

or had we not just drafted only point guards maybe Fox wouldn’t have become disillusioned and forced his way out.

players have egos

If somehow we could not get Portis, then we would have to keep Lyles over KJ. Monte may want to help out Morey but the Kings cannot afford to become smaller.
It sounds like the Sixers would like to get under the luxury tax since they aren’t contenders so that would likely mean getting KJ and not sending any salary their way. Not sure though wild day possibly

But we had 3 ingrained members of the rotation. With Hali, you added a 4th. How is that not "overstacking" the position, by your definition
I think we had let Bogi walk or were about to. Hali was a backup and 3 man rotation with Fox and Buddy that made sense. Drafting a good back-up swing guy is fine. Drafting two back-up to your back-up is not.

Klutch maneuvered a trade during the middle of an incredibly successful run for the Kings this season, and though the backcourt rotation was crowded, Fox was logging a ton of minutes. It's not as if he was experiencing the squeeze. We do not know what was truly in Fox's mind, but there's a good chance it had nothing at all to do with basketball. Or ego. It seems very much like it just had to do with family and home and what Fox values off the court.

Except he can't dribble and can't shoot. And looks readily apparent he was not BPA. Ware would have provided things we desperately needed to add (athleticism, rim protection, length) at a position of actual need.
It's not readily apparent. He's coming off injury and surgery. Missed training camp. Missed preseason. Limited time with the G League team. Limited time with the big club. He's already had two head coaches despite the extreme brevity of his NBA career thus far. I'd suggest we wait until he's got more than a fraction of a season under his belt before we determine that he was or wasn't BPA.
