De'Aaron Fox Traded to Spurs for Zach Lavine, three first round picks

I think we at least owe it to Domas and Keegan and maybe even DDR to see what we have left before we do that. We can do that in a year or two. I would be fine with it, I think Vivek hates the idea though. He's probably one of those who thinks tanking is cheating.
Yup. None of these teams are beating OKC any time soon, so we might as well have fun and see what can be done before any hasty tear-downs.

I like the trade.
Keep in mind that Fox desire for trade with 1 destination to Spurs - made the negotations much harder. And to get something super amazing was not possible.
So you get same quality player, get rid of recess Huerter, get rid of latest drama around Fox, get some picks, get flexibility on making another trade/improvement - so I see only possitive things.

Bobby Marks was a fan of the trade, altho clearly couched in terms that after Klutch went public with the demand we were boned

and def agree that Minn 2031 unprotected is objectively a super valuable asset.

I’m also very very happy the band aid got ripped off now instead of allowing this to fester another week

Yeah, I would have liked to see the spurs pay a price for the kings so called 1A player.

here’s a quote from “Pounding the Rock” Spurs blog:

I’m just over the moon that the Spurs somehow managed to acquire an All-Star caliber player without giving up anyone in their young core. Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan and Stephon Castle are all still Spurs. This hardly could have gone better for them. Go Spurs Go!
And?

Just let it go, man. Fans say a lot of things. Just like here. Doesn't mean they all know everything. You don't have to punish yourself. :)

What if Levine stays healthy and keeps shooting lights out like he has been? What if Castle never develops an outside shot better than 25%? At what point do you stop thinking that every move is wrong when there is no proof, right now, that it is?

The Nets ask has been going down down down. I don't think they'll get two firsts. They don't have to take Huerter now, they can take the cap space. We can also send Lyles who is expiring and take back Cam and Sharpe. They get I dunno 35 million to play with next year? Plus the Charlotte pick.
Whose even in the race to get Cam.. Magic, kings, and cavs is all I could think of I think a first and two seconds should be enough to get it done

CHA FRP is protected. Does this trade include any condition, let’s say “the FRP is protected if its high 1-5..” ? Or no matter its their call.
When San Antonio acquired that pick, it was protected 1-14. If that pick fell between 1-14, Charlotte would keep it, and instead convey two second round picks (CHA 26, CHA 27). When San Antonio traded the pick to us, the protections went with it. When Charlotte misses the playoffs this year (almost certain to happen), Charlotte will keep the 25 FRP and instead ship the two SRPs to us.

It may not be “cheating” by the letter of the law, but it certainly isn’t very sportsmanlike. It’s an unbecoming, bush league short cut.

Intentionally losing is for losers, which goes completely against the spirit of competition.

nothings eating at me about this team. I am merely incredulous of the ineptitude of this franchise. I mean you really gotta work at sucking this bad for so long. I’m actually curious to see if they ever pull out of this malaise.
At what point do I stop thinking every move is wrong? We are talking about the kings right? I know this trade is a loss. It’s actually entertaining reading people trying to convince themselves that naaaaaa, this trade is actually pretty good.

Synthesizing the data thus far, here's a draft of how I think it all went down...

1) Fox looks at team trajectory, considers pt 2 of his career arc. Refuses early extension for for max influence to force some changes, calls in Klutch muscle.

2) Kings FO gets nervous, sees trade deadline approaching, considers recent performance and current period of max value of Fox, considers team needs and assets, and balances against risk he'll walk for nothing. Klutch guy is a d-bag.

3) FO chooses the risk-averse path, makes Fox available, and gives his representatives a courtesy heads-up.

4) Fox a bit surprised, didn't actually want to leave, but recognizes there may be greener grass. Does team a solid by saying he'll go anywhere, to help them get the best value for him.

5) Cats out of the bag, too many people have leaked, so Fox cops to SA being his strongly preferred destination. This reclaims negotiating power and reduces FO chance to be opportunistic at his expense, ensuring he doesn't waste time in the boondocks when he wants to be in San Antonio.

6) Kings get the best deal they can with their limited bargaining power, but not the very best, because bringing back Castle would make Sac a rebuilding team and they'd lose DDR. Ultimately, Fox goes where he wants, San Antonio gives up frustratingly little for the deal of the century, DDR stays, and Huerter gets a fresh start,

Can't wait to see what number 7 is!

Why does everyone want Cam? Where would he fit in? Is he suppost to start? Who's he replacing?

I don't see him as someone who wants to come off the bench in a career year. Collins makes much more sense imo
Fox, Lavine, Cam, Keegan, Sabonis

I could careless about Derozan he’s 35 he’s the one that doesn’t fit with the core Cam can come off the bench then start next season

There's losing on purpose and then there is just trading everything for capital. I think Philly went about it horribly but OKC and Houston did it honorably. BUT, they haven't had the long losing history we have and I don't think you can ask fans to buy season tickets for one playoff appearance in 20 years. So Sac has to at least give the fans something to go home happy about for a while before they cut. Besides OKC and Houston are set for a nice while now so we may as well give this Domas-Monk-Lavine team a chance to see what they can do. I'd be happy to make the second round.

Welcome to Limbo, where it is neither hot nor cold, neither bad nor good, and where there is neither pleasure nor pain. Wins come as often as losses. Draft picks are middling. There isn't much to complain about, nor is there much to hope for. And it lasts a long, long time.

Without some legit high first round draft picks I don't see the circle ending anytime soon. Round and round we go, and when it stop nobody knows.

I'm not sad to see Fox go. Sometimes you could see flashes of greatness, other times he disappeared into the woodwork. Didn't have the grit or "want to" necessary to be an elite player in this league and definitely didn't have leadership qualities. Too often I thought the team mirrored his personality, which wasn't a good thing.

I think this is a great point - "team mirrored his personality." I never really thought of it like that but it's completely true. This is another reason why I'm excited for Monk to be the lead guard. He's passionate and has leadership qualities that I think will carry over to the rest of the team.

The other wildcard in this trade are those picks. Yeah, I know we don't think they are great but let's say we end up drafting an All-star with one of those picks....or maybe we package it for another trade that brings in a good player. We don't know how this will end up but this isn't just Fox for Lavine (which even just that on face value you can argue is pretty fair).
