De'Aaron Fox Traded to Spurs for Zach Lavine, three first round picks

I think you're underrating how bad the defense was with Fox and Monk out there. 26th last count. Can't see it getting much worse in the interim haha.
The sluggish starts still make no sense to me, but part of that is on Fox IMO. This whole “saving myself for the 4th quarter” routine was becoming super hard to overcome. I was in the building for that Nuggets game and that was as bizarre as it gets lol

length
lavine Wingspan 6’ 8”
Vassel Wingspan 6’ 10”

age
Lavine age: 29
Vassel Age: 24

contract
Lavine Contract: 40M
Vassel Contract: 27M

so tell me exactly which of my comments are not true. Yes Levine can score but there are actually 2 sides to the game and with Monk, Levine, Deebo, and Sabonis porous doesn’t begin to describe it.
I swear your comment said Vassel was better than LaVine, not younger. Whoops, I'll raise the hand on that one.

Also, I thought you didn't care about wingspan? What's their standing reach comparison?

Also, also, paying Devin Vasell 27 mil/season for another 4 years sounds pretty damn awful. LaVine makes a bunch of money, but he's only inked 2 more seasons. If LaVine keeps staying healthy (obviously a huge IF), at least I know I'm getting fringe-all-star type production. The Spurs on the other hand are 12.3 points better with Vassell off the floor this season.

Lavine apparently waived his trade kicker which means we now have a 16.8 million dollar TPE and picks to work with.
Well that's sporting of the lad. Already more team-first than Fox.

I can imagine this was discussed, in the context of the Kings making more moves this deadline. Maybe going all in win now. hm interesting!

No worries. I'm just giving my honest assessment of the trade, not trolling for likes. I've been vehemently against the idea of a LaVine trade every time it was brought up. I put him in the same category as Kyle Kuzma. I would even go so far as to say that any GM who thinks LaVine is a player that they want on their team is not a GM that I can take seriously anymore. I liked Monte up to this point, but he swung and missed on this one in my opinion and that contract is bad enough that it's going to take a long time for the full implications of this mistake to play out.
Time will tell. But we might be in the same boat with an extended Fox. its got to be the make or break for Monte and Wes.

Yeah, feels like Monte already has something in mind or lined up with that TPE. I’m hoping for Portis or Collins.

Castle is not good!

Do you know how many open 3s this guy gets just for being next to Wimbly? Like what is this with this guy. Only thing he has going for him is he's 6,6 and athletic.

We don't need a project, we have Carter if we wanna bank on potential
I wanted him included for potential but now I hope he is what his rookie numbers say he is, which is not the next SGA.

I'm not stoked on Lavine because he's been shopped for literal years, is super injury prone, is another all-offense piece, and that contract makes me sad.

And unless you have a trade in place with DeRozan you're rebuilding the 23/24 Bulls 2.0. Except our version has Sabonis as Point Center flanked by Lavine, DeRozan, Murray, and Monk. So Kings score like 190 a night, while giving up 210.

And those 3 first rounders (and 3 second rounders) are cool on the surface, but only the Minny one in 2031 seems to have a puncher's chance of being really worth something. The Charlotte one is just gonna be two seconds and the Spurs one will likely be well out of the lottery in 2 years (Now that they have their Wemby/Fox core courtesy Kultch).

Was liking the Monk/Ellis/Murray/DeRozan/Sabonis starting lineup before Fox submarined the season, and thought a Sochan, Cam Johnson addition (and a cache of FRPs) would be the push to get that scrappy group into the playoffs while still building a foundation for the future.

I acknowledged this is real value for a team that usually gets the likes of Kenny Thomas, Grievas Vasquez, and Buddy Hield when trading away its franchise players. So, even though I’m mildly disappointed, I'll take mild disappointment compared to the apocalyptic book of revelations level pandemonium from the recent past.

Even in saying that, I don't think Monte's done. Playing with Lavine again is not what DeRozan signed up for.

And we need a forward who isn't 35.

The real winner of this trade though is Klutch Sports. Got their client exactly where he wanted to go in under a week and without that team giving up any important assets.

Gives me Cushlash.

We got the monkey off our backs with Fox leaving. I'm not nearly as heartbroken as I was with Cousins being sent out, I don't know why, but I am just not. Maybe it's because of how we traded Cousins, but I don't think Fox was on the same talent level as Cousins (man, if only he could have kept his cool even halfway under control). I don't have the sense of dread either. Somehow, it feels like it's going to work out. I definitely have a feeling there is at least one more trade incoming. Roster is far too unbalanced now, it needs some tidying up.
This. The team already showed how resilient they can be and I’m glad we didn’t allow ourselves to dig another huge hole when the vibes were literally immaculate just a week and some change ago. I’m still irritated that klutch and fox + our front office got us to this point because of the timing of it all, but i won’t turn on Fox. I still love and appreciate the guy

Agree to disagree, but the good news my friend is we will both still be kings fans, and if I'm right you get to reap the benefits, If your right, then we will cry together

I will add Lavine is clearly an underrated player. I mean even me from word of mouth / public perception you initially think he's some low% chucker sort of player (like a Kuzma) ... But his CAREER %'s are pretty great. 46.8/38.7/83.1 ... For reference here are other star guard's career percentages:

Curry: 47.2/42.5/91.1
Booker: 46.3/35.6/87.2
Mitchell: 45/36.9/84.2
Lillard: 43.8/37.1/89.9
Jaylen Brown: 47.8/36/72.2
Fox: 47.1/33.3/74.4

#'s aren't everything but offensively he compares favorably to the elite guards in the game & strictly considering %'s he's probably 2nd behind Curry which is shocking now that I looked it up.

And some foolishly wonder why the NBA’s fan interest and viewership is down.

They’ve been close to losing this long time fan many times over the years, but have somehow reeled me back in each time.

However given the state of the game wrt style of play and now agents/players having more power and influence than ever before — I’m back on the ledge of the cliff anticipating jumping very soon. I’m caring less and less every season. And that in itself frustrates me. They’ve slowly and slowly taken away something I’ve loved for a long time.

Lavine’s a Klutch guy and so is Trey so Rich Paul’s still stuck with us. Joke’s on him!

Some small things about the trade... Carter will now be our second pg from the bench? He is not really a point guard though? What's the point of giving McLaughlin to the deal and not getting another point guard back? Tre Jones (that ended up to the Bulls) would fit us I think, should we be looking for someone to play behind Monk (that we didn't really know he is a point guard as well) in the market?

It's the first time in many years that Kings have a raw talent in the roster, Sissoko is 20, all our rookies 2 way undrafter players the past few years had been 22+ year old. Haven't really seen him in action apart from that Carter debut in G-League but hope he can become the person that trade will be remembered for in a few years from now.
