Ham says it was a Collins deal that players were told was "done" that initiated all of this. I wonder if Utah offered for Fox?

This is such a bad situation. These teams, especially the spurs, know that Fox is pushing the kings hand so why are they gonna give up any of their up and coming players? I think a whole lot of kings fans are gonna be terribly disappointed in what the kings ultimately end up getting for Fox. I figured they would get a haul before all this noise. Now I don’t think they are gonna get anywhere near what a player of his caliber SHOULD pull in.
It is... but it isn't. We're a year away from being "desperate" with this situation. Again, the Spurs are on a shot-clock here with Wemby; they have to prove to him that they're not going to wait around to win and they're going to do everything they can to put a winner around him. What you DON'T want to go to Wemby is say "Hey, we had a Fox trade done, but I think we're going to wait till this off-season or when he's a FA to go get him". So you're punting 1 season and a half because you don't want to pay the tag? Uh-oh, now Wemby starts to wonder a bit who will go do what it takes to put a winner around him.

Or what if Fox signs off on a MIA trade, he falls in love with that city and now SAS is totally locked out? That's even worse.

I would not trust Vlade with this decision to play it right. I trust Monte, but this is his job on the line here, depending on the haul he gets back.

meaning a deal centered around Collins and fox?
No probably just some Huerter, Lyles maybe a pick combo.

Guessing that maybe Kings told folks internally and they asked Klutch/Fox if that would be enough for Fox to commit to an extension, they said no, and Kings backed out and so maybe Utah offered for Fox?

That's sheer speculation.

Welp, I guess Ill go get some Kings/Spurs tickets so I can be there for Fox's return. Really glad we got Deebo in the offseason now, but I guess maybe that encouraged this situation, who knows...
It's sounds more like they know the NBA is going to be Wemby's playground. Agents and players are jockeying to be the Robin to his Batman. The rumblings when Fox first turned that extension down are just being proven out. It's nobodies fault, it happens, the 8 year itch hits almost every agent and player. Thankfully the Kings didn't make any more crippling moves with picks or talent to placate him any further.

All signs point to Vivek firing. Also the team's play in the aftermath speaks for itself. It was a well deserved firing. And why throw Monte to the wolves who hate him who created much of the mess they are then going to blame Monte for?

Also I was additionally speaking to many folks on twitter and reddit demanding Kings do a presser right now to address the Fox situation.
The Fox thing is definitely a "no comment" and I agree with you on that.

This whole thing is weird. I don’t see what Fox gets out of this? Unless he and Recee just want to move to TX to raise their family, which is totally fine. No problems with that.

Just say that to the front office and do this quietly so the Kings can still have some leverage and you can remain in a positive light in the fan’s eyes, and you don’t be a distraction to the locker room in the middle of a season where we are trying to make a run and fight for a playoff spot.

This is now a full blown s-show.
All the smoke about him maybe being on the move a month ago was the quiet version of all of this.

Trade deadline is now approaching, Fox and Klutch want this deal done at this deadline so he can get the pay bump this summer and extend with the team that trades for him. Maybe the Kings weren't going to trade Fox, maybe they wanted to deal him somewhere where he wouldn't extend, either way, Klutch is blowing this up to put the pressure on the Kings to make this trade now.

Wemby is still finding his legs. The Spurs can easily wait. This is pretty much done for Sac however. The thing is you can't really play hardball if you're Monte because this will just stalemate the franchise which is actually more detrimental than not receiving top dollar value for Fox. IF Fox is set on one destination, which is par for the course these days BTW, look at Siakam, then you could in theory just do what Riley is doing with Butler, but it's cutting your nose off to spite your face. And truthfully beyond Butler wanting 1 team Butler isn't going to light up the league as a trade asset anyway at his age and dollar demands. The Kings should be able to get some value even if Fox is a rental for a team whether that be Miami or whoever but fans really need to be realistic about this. The Kings aren't getting anywhere close to 100% value for Fox and the longer the Kings wait that "better deal yesterday" stuff comes back to haunt.

The more I think about it, the more the Spurs package entices me. Specifically, they have some really nice draft capital. A Spurs trade HAS to start with that unprotected Atlanta 2025 pick, that could very well be top 4. My ideal package would be a mix of win-now roleplayers and good picks. I’ll pass on Castle in favor of getting better draft capital.

Spurs get:

Fox
Huerter

Kings get:

Vassell
Sochan
‘25 unprotected ATL 1st
‘25 1-10 protected CHI 1st
‘27 unprotected SAS 1st

Vassell gives us some scoring and Sochan adds to our forward depth. Hang on to that Atlanta ‘25 first and maybe get lucky. You can trade the other two picks to get a Collins or Cam.

Monk/Carter
Ellis/Vassell
DeRozan/Cam
Murray/Sochan
Sabonis/?

Certain amount of Ham narrative unreliable and in this case it might just be the poster, but I thought the story we were told is Kings were trading the pick that became Carter for Cam Johnson but Carter fell and the Kings happily picked him up.
This is truly ridiculous. LOL. Clearly that's what happened because we were watching it in real time. Then the REAL insiders quickly reported that the Kings weren't trading that pick. Like IMMEDIATELY. Man, all this Fox stuff has the "Ham and eggers" in the local media struggling with their position in the pecking order.

absolutely no ****ing shot Ham would wait this long to drop this bomb.
So many people inside and outside the organization have said how high we and they are on Carter plus there's been rumored deals for Carter that we've rebuffed so it makes zero sense that we got tricked into picking him for something that fell through.

The original narrative makes sense and it seems likely that the "KANGZ FO UP TO THEIR OLD TRICKS" narrative is so strong right now it's easy to misread the story that way.

IMHO, of course.

And it literally makes no sense. If they wanted Carter how would the trade even remotely be able to "fall apart"? When people start to rewrite a narrative or history, just take the line from where you're at now back to the beginning. When the line they're selling starts trailing off and makes no sense, it means somebody is pulling **** out of their backside.

Yeah, this whole thing was extremely clear. Kings were dead-set to deal this for Cam or Kuzma and then Carter fell... and the pick was off the table.

Lol yeah

"Ooo sorry man, we actually DON'T want Carter. My bad, deals off"

Could you imagine an NBA GM operating like that?

Not a fan of the concept of trading away an all-star talent, but I'm also not a fan of paying him the supermax. He ain't it.

That said, Fox is an IMMENSE talent, and other teams have gotten more for less. If he wants out, it's time to restock the cabinet. He'll be missed for sure, but a combination of picks and youth and depth will go a long way to not only keeping the team afloat, but maybe even thriving. And man, that ATL pick looks juicy - would love to backdoor into the Flagg sweepstakes.

It's not cutting your nose off to spite your face if there is legitimate competition for your asset. Even Siakam was already 30 when the Pacers acquired him, knowing they'd have to spend a bunch of money to re-sign a third-tier star without assurance that he was their "one-player-away" from reaching the Finals. Fox is just entering his prime, having turned 27 in December. There's a reason half the league has already called the Kings to inquire about his availability. 25 ppg scorers with a talent for bending defenses at the rim and a finishing ability like few others in the league is not something you sell for less than its value. You certainly don't take a crummy deal today that you can also get in the off-season when other interested franchises will come to the table knowing they can beat that crummy deal. Rental or not for some future trade partner, Fox is the kind of talent at this stage of his career that quite a few teams would surely think of as their "one-player-away". Kings fans need to shake off the hangover of Vlade "better deal yesterday" Divac. Monte absolutely should not be moving De'Aaron Fox for pennies on the dollar.

Not only that, but the media would apparently want to spin this (unlikely) scenario into a KANGZ situation when it would clearly be the other team's fault. But it doesn't matter that it probably didn't happen, and it doesn't matter that even if it did it makes somebody ELSE look bad, because KANGZ sells.
