This is the fear for a small market franchise trying to take its swing a bit early. Siakam is an excellent player, but he's a known quantity, and there's not some new gear for him to discover or some new level-up for him to take at this stage of his career. So when you trade for him and then sign him to a max deal, you had better be sure that Haliburton is on a superstar trajectory. If he's not, then you might have just locked yourself into NBA purgatory. It's why I remain thrilled that the Kings pulled off the DDR trade rather than a hypothetical Ingram trade, where they'd have to re-sign the guy to max money, cross their fingers, and hope for the best.
