Saddened to kick this one off this year with the passing of Mr. Jeff Beck. One of rock guitar's early icons who actually managed to age quite gracefully, continuing to record, perform and inspire into his 70s. Ok, maybe last year's Johnny Depp album wasn't inspirational, but still... RIP

Rolling Stone in its top 100 guitarist listed Jeff Beck #5. Very deserved. My all-time fave jazz fusion song, rift by him or anyone here. Used to listen to it on cassette tape blowing down the freeway back in the day - "Freeway Jam."

This was a few days ago. Like many of a certain age, his dad was a mythical figure of my childhood as I zipped around doing lame jumps on my bmx bikes. I thought Robbie did a good job in the 90s and early 00s carrying on the legacy.

I never got into the Smiths when they were around. I came around on Johnny Marr once I got over all guitars must be distorted phase of life. Andy may be unsung compared to Johnny and obviously Moz had the voice, but I bet you'd recognize those bass lines. RIP
