Looking ahead to the 2023 Draft

They also play on ESPN2 tonight vs GG Jackson and South Carolina... What a circus that broadcast is gonna be. I might have to tune in and not mute the game.

Wow.

I have a lot of trouble buying the "self defense" reports.

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't touch Miller at this point. Following an altercation, which is clearly over (because the other party and the victim have gotten into their car), Miles tells Miller to go get Miles' gun out of Miller's car. Miller says, hey, that seems reasonable, I have no idea what's about to happen next! Then either Miles or Davis unloads the gun into the victim's car, killing the girl in the passenger seat. And the police say they can't charge Miller with anything? It's not accessory to murder if you're a college basketball star, is that what it is?

Wouldn't touch him. Not in the 20s, not in the second round, not undrafted. Not worth it.
Well one of the murderers, Davis, who appears to be the one who really escalated this incident, did get shot in the shoulder by the victims boyfriend but that was return fire apparently.. what a mess

I'm interested to hear what the defense has to say about how they knew the other car was armed.

Yeah it's not self defense. Miller wasn't even there until Miles texted him and basically said "come bring my gun we gonna roll". It's not self defense when you're blocking a guy's car in (with two different vehicles driven by Miller and apparently a different non-star Alabama player named Bradley) and shoot first. Nope, no way.

We don't know whether the victim's boyfriend had possibly flashed a piece at Davis (who was trying to hit on the deceased, which the BF took offense to) but even if so, the situation was over. Miller had to bring the gun from somewhere else. It probably took 10-15 minutes. This is not self defense.

Clay Travis pointed out that Miller CREATED the wrong place/wrong time by bringing the gun. Sounds about right to me.
Well were they aware the other car was armed at that point though? That to me is a matter of great importance.

I could be totally wrong, but It doesnt sound to me like its a situation where its like "Hey Brandon Miller bring me my gun so I can go shoot unarmed defenseless people like fish in a barrel in their parked car"

to me it seems more like a "they're strapped i need my gun" situation.. which i mean if that sthe case, i'm no lawyer but pinning any sort of criminal intent on Brandon Miller seems like a big reach. he's just responding to help his friend in apparently a life threatening situation.

but again I could be totally wrong..

n I'm guessing we'll get all the info as the trial moves on seems liek there's quite a lot of this incident captured on camera..

Was the situation over though? in the article you linked earlier I thought I read this claim.
They said they had seen a gun in the victims’ vehicle and noted that when they could have left the area before the shooting, they instead came back, turned off their vehicle lights and stopped.

So Jaden Bradley was with the 2 murderers and walked up to the Jeep n thats when Miles claims he saw a gun passed to Johnson(victims BF)!!!

wow... its so so so weird how Bradley is more of a footnote in this story/headlines.. what a double standard.. I'm much more interested in Bradley's actions on that night than Miller. It seems we already know the full extent of Millers involvement.

While Bradley might not be the star that Miller is, he will make tons of money playing professional basketball, he's a 5-star recruit and mcdonalds all american just like Miller a likely NBA guy too.

I've now seen the exact text sent from Miles to Miller.. It's in the nature of "I need my gun, I've been threatened" though in much more of a southern slang.

It'll be interesting to see how this affects Millers draft projections.. I'm sure every team will want to thoroughly ask him about it predraft, this story will continue to be a dominant black cloud type of headline for the rest of the draft process. Figures to be one of those 'he doesnt have to convince every team to draft him, just one' typa deals.

PJ Hall I dont think has been mentioned yet in this thread.

Clemson is going for their 20th win tonight. He's one of the best Juniors in the nation. It'll be interesting to see how Clemson closes the season out, they go as far as PJ Hall will take them

Listed at 6'10 (probably closer to 6'9) 240lbs he's a bruiser thru and thru and not very athletic/explosive, he does flash some interesting skill though

shooting 40% from 3 on almost 3 attempts per. 82% from the FT line. he's got good touch aroudn the basket as well n does flash good feet n figures to be a servicable defender. Some team is definitely gonna give him a try, hes obviously quite strong.

You might look at him and think he mustve added a ton of muscle in his years of college but he was actually built like that as a freshman.

I dont think calling armed backup falls under self defense. Thats sounds like premeditation with an accomplice.
Darius Miles, the one who called Miller "for backup", was charged with capital murder 5 weeks ago. The text message from Miles to Miller is known, it wasn't "I need backup" it reads much more like "I need my gun, I'm in danger".. Brandon Millers response seems like one to help a friend whos life might be in danger, the idea that he showed up to the scene with some knowledge that an execution was going to take place seems loosely wired, half-baked, projecting, and lacking in evidence n merit.

Everything I've read since mid January on this case would indicate these parties didnt know each other at all, seems rather unlikely this was a premeditated crime

Kobe Bufkin deserves mention here.

6'4" Lefty CG who can shoot it probably better than his 34% from 3 would indicate. He's got very good shiftiness off the dribble. He's also averaging 3 assists per game this season which is crazy.

Clearly a player whos coming around quickly. He didnt play much as a freshman n is now making huge strides as a Sophomore. I used to hate on Juwan Howards rotations bigtime last year n one of the reasons is they were struggling n still not using Bufkin, seems he's turned the corner bigtime.

There's a case to be made for the Kings selecting a player like him with the first rd pick. Wouldnt rule it out.

Would take him over Terquavion Smith, Bufkin is certainly the better shooter.

I saw the story when it was reported. It was pretty horrifying. Seemed like a dude who was barely on the team (on extend injury leave?) and his hood friend were out mistreating women and then did one of the worst things possible.

but it felt like an isolated incident, not one that involved a teammate bringing a murder weapon and the coach acting "eh, nbd nothing to see here" and now the coach consulting a dude who got away with being an accessory for advice. lol. Does he have Karl Malone on speed dial too in case there's an underage girl at a frat party?

NCAA has moved to suspend Miller where the coach failed. But y'all see this nugget (if you did I missed it). this guy is mentally unfit. If he isn't relieved of his job before the weekend the things the other 49 states say about Alabama may actually be true.

It sure is odd seeing Ray Lewis is brought up here.. Reading thru this nonsense I was reminded of the Ray Lewis double murder case.

I mean I watch college ball every single year... Top ranked teams dont usually have players arrested for Capital Murder...

That alone made the story quite noteworthy to me... There didnt need to be some lottery pick involved to catch my attention...

I'm totally disgusted by the people who show up now that Brandon Millers name is involved all of a sudden are outraged. Where were you 5 weeks ago when the 23 year old mother was murdered? didnt give a crap? this isnt breaking news...

I've still yet to see an answer for why the Jeep in question is sitting there with the headlights turned off after all thats transpired. Which is on video. Seems to me the Jeep was waiting for things to escalate/not back down as well, no?!?!?!?????????

The driver of the Jeep claimed they were sitting there because they didnt know the area well... that sounds like MAJOR BS given its Tuscaloosa and theres a University of Alabama student in the Jeep... Seems to me both parties were armed and sitting there looking for closure to the earlier incident as well...

So if thats the case then it all boils down to a bunch of dummies wanting to have the last word. Well then I wouldnt want to be a dummy arguing about dummies wanting to have the last word.

So I concede.

In my closing statements I admit, I've known it all along, actually I was just covering for him, Brandon Miller is clearly Charles Manson 2.0. I think we should call him Charles Manson instead of Brandon Miller from this point forward as he's obviously guilty on all charges, he obviously orchestrated this execution n did it all but pull the trigger. It was in fact premeditated by the criminal mastermind Brandon Miller, truly worthy of a Law and Order or NCIS 2-part episode and yes, he would've gotten away with it if not for you meddling kids!

Its a good thing we got him now! Can you imagine what he'd do with NBA millions? would probably be the next David Koresh.

For those on the forum a little to young for the Manson reference, the Horror Villain Saw might be a more appropriate. Brandon Miller is like Saw.

Lastly I'd like to propose that when Miller, I mean Charles Manson, makes his first appearance at the Golden 1 Center we should all bring signs that say "Brandon Miller is a murderer" and chant it everytime he touches the ball. That'll make things right, for sure.

Was it not related to the top5 pick when I posted about it? Thats his teammate no? Or did you need the News to fill that gap in for you 5 weeks later?

get the pitchforks ready!!!
Brandon Miller wasn't implicated in being involved in the incident when initial reports were released in January. Now he is.

But no, at the time I wasn't making assumptions like "I bet teammate Brandon Miller brought the murder weapon to the scene!" As a matter of fact, I DID need the news to fill in that gap for me. Weird how that works.

To me it is more about any second teammate and even more about the coach poo-pooing this as a nothingburger that have made me wonder wtf is in the water at that gym.

Crappy people are everywhere you go, I usually don't blame the institutions they represent for their behavior until there is a larger pattern.

Jeez, nobody has even accused you of anything of the sort. The disagreements over whether the event could be construed as self defense are simply discussion, not an attack on you.

Sorry for defending myself when you got mad that "nobody cared" before Miller was implicated. I saw it at the time. Thought it was a big deal, actually. Didn't talk about it here because at the time it didn't affect NBA prospects.

I was really surprised that Oats took the approach he did - didn't expect that at all. It leaves me wondering how much the university has known about the incident and Miller's involvement prior to the hearing yesterday where this all came out in the public. But the fact that Miller is basically the best player on a team expected to land on the 1-line in the tourney...I can see how TPTB at 'Bama might have hoped that they could stay quiet and the whole thing might go away. Bad look, if that's what happened. Not saying it is what happened.

Well I just think its very clear the Jeep was sitting there with its lights off because they wanted to play patty cake or perhaps hold hands and sing kumbaya. That seems reasonable to me! I believe that, for sure, unrelated but I believe in santa claus and the tooth fairy as well.

It also seems reasonable to me that Miller reacted to the text the way he did because they knew whatever threat or reason was completely harmless and that he was gonna go n show up to a good old fashioned execution, as he's clearly some sort of sadist.

There's very little discussion about the incident here, you refuse to speak on why the jeep is sitting there with its lights off, which is going to be a key point for the defense..Even when I cite it from the exact article that you posted, you offer no on-topic response....

If there's discussion here its discussion about your feelings, not the incident in question:). Lets be clear. I'm the only one here speaking on the Jeep returning and parking and shutting its headlights off..... n the outrageous claim that a jeep with an Alabama student inside doesnt know its way around tuscaloosa (have you seen where the crime scene is!??!?!?)

what is the jeep doing turning around to park and shut its lights off in that moment?!?!?! Do you really believe they had anything other than bad intentions when they did that? If you do, I've got a bridge in brooklyn for sale, you can charge people $10 to cross it, let me know if you want a great deal.

#1 - I think that was an update to the story. If not, I missed that detail.
#2 - Sorry that I spent my breaks from work addressing the "you didn't care about this story a month ago" accusation instead of following up on the Jeep-lights-off story...which I still haven't had time to follow up on.
#3 - Even if victim's boyfriend was looking for trouble - and sure, it's likely that he was - Miles+Davis clearly seem to have had the opportunity to LEAVE instead of call for the heater. I don't think this detail puts the incident into "self defense" range. Sorry.

#4 - To pre-emptively address the next concern, I see that Miller's attorney has released a statement, and although I have only had time to skim an ESPN article, it sounds like he claims 1) Miller didn't know the gun was there, 2) Miller was already on the way to pick them up and missed the "get my gun" text, and 3) The Jeep got itself trapped behind Miller's car AFTER Miller parked it, or something of the sort. I am extremely skeptical of 1) and 2), though I suppose they MIGHT be true and we will have to let things play out. They sound like...untruths, though. I find 3) to not really make any sense. And now...back to work! If I don't respond, maybe it's because I'm refusing to!

While I have said above that the attorney's claims might be true, a close parsing of them may reveal what has gone unsaid.

"Brandon never saw the handgun nor handled it" - does NOT say Miller did not KNOW the weapon was in the back seat. That suggests to me that Miller knew the weapon was there. He can know that without having seen it, obviously.

"...as Brandon was already on the way to pick up Mr. Miles, Mr. Miles texted Brandon and asked him to bring him his firearm." - does NOT say that Miller didn't receive and read the text before arriving. This - along with the text message that we have seen - suggests that Miller knew that Miles wanted the weapon to engage in a confrontation before arriving.

The attorney's statement is designed to make you come to the conclusion that Miller was unwitting in the entire situation, while never actually saying that. I suspect that was not accidental.
