If he is having that type of season and you have Siakam, Barnes, Van Fleet and Nurse you wonder why they are 12-12. It’s early yet and Siakam has missed some time but it seems like they are underachieving. I noticed they only played 8 guys tonight so maybe it’s a depth issue.
Raptors starters all play heavy minutes so depth absolutely is their main issue. They are one LONG and huge team so the Kings will struggle against them.

They’re long but rather notably they have pretty much no centers of worth. They’ve made attempts at starting Cristian Koloko, a second round rookie who is not too great, just to give them someone capable of taking on beef.

The great thing about the team this season is that the forum is concentrated on talking about wins. While unlikely, the Kings CAN win every one of those contests with just a fairly good game rather than having to come up with an ungodly spectacular game as in years past. The players now walk on the court expecting to win each game.

I haven't been closing watching them but my suspicion would be their record is a result of: (1) Some bad luck similar to ours (5 close losses, they ran into a random Tyrese Maxey 9 for 12 3pt buzzsaw early in the year). (2) Their guard play has been subpar so far -- VanFleet and Gary Trent have not been shooting well. (3) Injury issues and poor rotational depth.

I see them as a tough matchup for us regardless because their strength is at the wing positions where we have not been great defensively and we're facing them in an early game back-to-back as the fifth game of this road trip a day after facing Embiid and Harden. Also... Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Philly are top 3 in points allowed right now and Toronto is 7th. These are all going to be ugly scraps and when you combine that with all the traveling, endurance will be a factor late in the road trip.

I think 2-4 is realistic, 3-3 would be great. With that said, after they lose the next two against the Bucks and Cavs I will likely have a mini irrational meltdown on this site so be warned.
Don't worry, I'll join you.

I was low key writing us off again after the road loss to the Celtics. After those last 2 wins I'm thinking we're finishing top 6 minimum. But if we drop the next 2? Tank for Wemby, it's over!

The next 8 games will be really telling for this team. 7 on the road and 1 at home. Playing Clippers, 76ers, Milwaukee, Toronto, Cleveland and a Detroit team filled with ex players all on the road. We are going to learn a lot about this team
I think we've learned most of what there is to be learned. I don't feel there is much more additional info that can be extracted from 7 more games. Of the 7 teams listed we probably go 4-3 +/- 1. We won't be defined by the next 8 games given it's an 82 game season, of which we have already played 22.

this is stupid thread, cause "next 8 games" will be until we reach 74 games .....
well as the OP I will defend my thread….

this road-trip has a number of top teams on the road. No one expected the Kings to be at the level of the top teams but right now their advanced stats reflect it. This trip will go a long way to telling us are they really that good or just merely good and no longer bad.

Over the next six games I’d say 5-1 or 0-6 are the only two records that I think would tell us something. Everything in between would be about what any team outside of the top 2 or 3 would pull off.

Kings need to beat the Pistons tonight, pure and simple - a loss would be a road-trip failure. They need to capitalize against weaker opponents.
I'd like to see Holmes and Len worked into the lineup more to see what's what. Not been impressed with Metu the last several games. His defense has been poor. Brown's meltdown just about cost them the Raptors game - you can't lose your marbles like that in a close game outside of play.

I don't really think that was a meltdown. I think it was a strategic decision on his part to show his guys he has their back. The team responded well after that too and got the win.

It didn't look "strategic" - it looked reactive - he ran out on the floor out of control when Fox got a technical being held back by his players. It was also a 5pt swing for the Raptors at that point. The team didn't respond until later in the 4th quarter having to make up that swing well after Brown was tossed. It was dumb.

"Merely good" is good enough at this point. Keep above .500.

Yeah it's this. Fox has been getting screwed all season and this was Browns way of showing him "Hey man, I see it, I got your back"

Players appreciate when the coach has their back. Calling it a "dumb decision" is incorrect

I called it dumb - not a dumb decision......it was an emotional reaction, not some thought out strategy or rational decision......you may agree or identify with the emotion behind it, but that doesn't make it smart.

I don’t understand why it was dumb. You can tell the players played with fire after that, and they openly admit that Brown got them fired up. It’s a pretty well known strategy that many coaches have used, especially Pop, to get their players focused.

The Kings were getting openly hosed by the refs, Fox picked up a tech, things were unraveling. So instead of his Star player getting ejected, Brown stepped in and fought for his players, got ejected, and that probably won them the game. What in this whole thing makes it a dumb decision?
