Random thoughts on what I have seen and may expect this season.

Team looks much much more engaged and fluid on not only the offensive end but the defensive end of the court. Lots of communication, better coaching.

Shots are much easier to come by now with a plethora of shooters on our roster. Keep in mind Keegan did not even play tonight. Plenty of dribble penetration and ball handling creation on this team.

Fox can get to the basket, Davion is just as good at getting to the basket, Huerter can handle the ball and shoot, Malik can handle a bit and shoot, TD can handle and create a bit and shoot.

Forgotton in this drafting and acquisition of more talent, is that Dearron will be much healthier this year due to not have to initiate everything on the perimeter with more competent guards and wings and with the acquisition of Domas we can also initiate from the post. He will not be injured as often. Harrison Barnes will not be as worn down as well, he was playing an insane amount of minutes last year and being asked to guard not only 3's but also 4's while being asked to produce a high offensive output. Now we have players like KZ, Moneke, Keegan, competent and/or very good defenders, smart players. Last year we were so strapped on wings we were playing Moe Harkless and Louis King. Sometimes Terrence Davis at 3 who is a SG.

Along with the acquisition of more wings and a increase in the overall talent of our team is that the physicality is apparent, you can play more players because they are more offensively talented or competent/smarter which means you have more players to play a high -level intensity of defense. Make no mistake about it the wings and guards look and are more physically imposing. Davion Mitchell is physically imposing, Harrison Barnes can guard 3/4, Keegan Murray is 6'9 and can play 3/4, KZ in just this game was guarding main ball handlers and shutting down dribble penetration as a 6'8 forward, Moneke has the body of Ron Artest and look physically imposing and smart defensively with some quick feet.

Barnes has looked a bit sloppy this preseason and slow..KZ/Moneke look to be quite quite promising as rotation players. Trey Lyles is a competent/average 4.

Sabonis will be Sabonis, we have Richaun who looks healthy to begin the season and he looks more comfortable, Alex Len can bang with the bigger centers while Richaun can be a more small ball oriented center.

Combine all of these things together this season and we may have some momentum going.. crossing my fingers.

What I think we start with game 1:

Starters:

Fox
Huerter
Okpala
Barnes
Sabonis

Rotation:

Davion
Murray
Monk
Holmes

Rotate in and out based on match-up, not consistent PT
Lyles
TD

Make the team, play only situationally/injuries:
CHIMA MONEKE
Len
Delly
Metu

Final cut:

Sam Merrill is the obvious cut, but I think he was signed to an Exhibit 10 so we can send him to Stockton? Which is ideal to pair with Keon and help space for Queta. From a roster balance perspective, seems like KZ and Moneke are leagues ahead of Metu at this point, so keeping the guard/shooter in Merrill does make sense too.

Another thing too is that we may bring Sasha Vezenkov over. Dude is looking unstoppable overseas.

I'm not sure that Monk is a better player than Terence Davis. A nice decision to have

TD seems to bring alot of defensive intensity, he can actually create off the dribble a bit and get to the basket very well. Malik seems to be more of a sparkplug type of player that can get hot and shoot from three. They are both prone a bit to turnovers but TD looks a bit more steady than monk in that sense of dribble penetration. TD has developed into a pretty decent player, but Monk has that natural chemistry with Dearron and can play more off ball.. a good problem to have.

TD also has a bit of playmaking ability. I love dude’s game.
