That's the issue, nothing is independent of Monk in terms of the lineups. The Kings have two smallish players for their position expecting to play at SG this year. Davion and Monk. This is a big reason why this team is going to be nothing like the Warriors in terms of 3 guard lineups unless they also push those smaller guards back in MPG. Look at the Warriors stats last year. Once they got healthy the smallest player in their rotation was Curry who is like 6'3". Wiggins, Porter, Klay, and Draymond all filled in that length and versatility for them at SG/SF/PF. GP3 was basically their 10th man and Iggy was in an out, mostly out. But they still had way more tools to be able to go big G, and small G lineup wise. The Kings can pretty much go small G, that's it.
Yeah, they need a big guard who actually is a big guard, not Monk. Then then have a big guard who is a big guard (like a DDV), Heurter at the SF, and Monk coming off the bench. That would be ideal.

Steph, Poole, GP2 all saw plenty of run being sub 6’4” players. Just like Fox, Mitchell and Monk will. I’m not saying it will be as effective obviously but there’s an avenue where they all get there minutes.

Also, the length will be fulfilled with Huerter, Barnes, Murray, Lyles as of right now, none shorter than 6’7”. A little too much is being made out this as of right now. We obviously don’t match the talent the warriors have, but from a personnel, size perspective we aren’t so dissimilar that atleast the basis of how a rotation will look cannot be derived from them.

I don't think anyone doesn't see him playing there some, but now, with he and Barnes the only actual size at SF, he's for sure getting minutes there. The only way for the team to make sense on paper now is they view this as Fox/Sabonis and everything around them plays depending on what they need that day of the week.
Murray at SF makes much more sense. I'm quite certain. The transition game is why, he likes to cherry pick and leak out on the break, and he catches everything, can discard defenders with a eurostep, and he's much better than Barnes in these scenarios on the offensive glass.. Barnes is best suited as a trailer on the break, he's 30 years old, after his first season where the Kings listed him at SF, he's been listed at PF 3 in a row one of which he had career high 6.6 boards per game..

We want to get Murray at the rim when the defense isnt set, so he can use his soft touch and ambidexterity, he will turn it to 2 points(possibly 3)at a very high % or he'll be able to grab an oreb or tip the ball out.

I'm not disputing that, it's actually a total necessity now, I'm disputing the potential difference in terms of effectiveness because these players aren't exactly alike in plenty of ways, the Kings don't have a ton of the other types of F's you see at the top of their depth chart, and the Kings are now paying more money for their counterpart versions so the expectations are going to be much different relative to cost. I was attempting to work out the minutes and if they don't prove as versatile, this could end up being as tough as any roster Vlade put together.

I agree with Ham on one thing: Heurter is a perfect fit. Great catch and shoot player, young and getting better, has a lot of moxy. He hits big shots at big moments. He made some big shots in the playoffs with Atlanta.

What about defense? Can he guard NBA 3s? I still haven’t been able to go back and watch any of this games.

He looks like he's a stretch 4 type to me. We'll see soon enough in the summer league how it goes with him guarding wing players.

He shows promise, but guarding NBA level athleticism one on one is a guess right now especially when we don't know what kind of defense Brown is going to be running.

If you've got around 15 minutes, this report is as good as any:

I think the bigger question is offensively what he does. I've provided his shot charts before. They are very similar to someone like a John Collins over a true perimeter wing. Now, was that strictly out of need? We'll find out but as they say, don't mess with success.

With one asterisk, summer league games are usually called quite a bit differently than the regular season. Historically they let a lot more things go and players get like a million fouls to give per game, haha.

I see a lot of nice complementary skills to what Sabonis and Fox bring to the table - the outside shooting and cutting to the basket. I don't know though whether he's a three who can beat an NBA three off the dribble and go to the basket. We'll see....

He hasn’t really shown that he can punish smaller forwards there.
Maybe for someone who hasnt been paying attention for nearly a decade, that makes sense. Back here in reality thats completely absurd. You could never qualify that statement.

I've gotta get the ignore list going today. I get that some ppl just want to be defiant and talk semantics and have their feelings heard/understood, but thats not really talking ball far as im concerned, it's more in the realm of fantasy. glad we have ignore function so i can filter that out of my kingsfans experience.

Yeah, in that report it pretty much tells his story off the dribble in mid range. If he's not getting to the rim it's not so hot. His shot chart is basically very limited in usage from the corner 3's, good up top from 3, good at the rim, and very good in the post area in the paint on post ups.

I have a feeling that his #1 priority in shooting practice is shooting the 3 from the corner. To me, you always start there and work your way to the middle.

This is just an astounding overpay. I expected Durant to pull in that kind of haul! I mean, Gobert certainly has utility as the best rim protector in the league, but like many, I just don't understand how a Timberwolves team led by KAT/Gobert succeeds in the modern NBA. They make some sense together offensively, I guess, given KAT's elite outside shooting amongst bigs. But you basically neutralize his post ability since Gobert has zero offensive skill away from the rim. He'll always be occupying that space. What a weird off-season this has been already.
Yeah, color me dumbfounded.

3 unprotected FRP for a dude that’s never been his team’s best player nor led a team past the Conference Semi’s?? And is 30 already??

I get it. Gobert is a DPOY guy. Cool.

But he clearly doesn’t move the needle like a true star player. That’s probably why Utah decided to move him.

Gotta give it up to Danny Ainge. He undoubtedly has elite Jedi mind powers to get other GM’s to consistently hand massive assets over to him.

The Jazz had stagnated and clearly weren’t going to higher places as currently constructed. Unbelievable deal for them.

Vaso Micic wants to come to the NBA BUT he's demanding 10mil per season + playing time......I'm not sure I would give him that he's basically a 6'2 really really poor mans Luka. A score first total ball dominant PG who does not play D yeah easy pass for me. He would be good in like a 2-5per deal imo. Plus how many successful Euro PGs in their late 20's have had success in the NBA Sarunas, Teodosic, Pablo Prigioni were all super meh at best,

Given the shooting that the Kings have added between Monk, Huerter, and Murray, there's now quite a bit more flex to their potential lineups. Vivek has wanted "positionless" basketball in Sacramento since he bought the team, and this is the first time that there has been enough length and shooting on the roster to actually achieve some of that positionless flexibility. On offense, at least. Defensively... well, I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

As Jerry Reynolds says: Defense is always easier when the other team has to take the ball out of the basket.

Man some people here are so hung up on shot charts... It's so weird.. It's like they want players to play for an even shot chart and not... to win! and hold his feet to the fire based off this nonsense..

Murray was dominant around the rim so thats where they funneled him.. What kind of coach is gonna be like "ok Keegan your really good at the rim so we're gonna force you to play to your weaknesses".. this is not little league..

If Iowa had the personnel to showcase him at other spots on the court they could've, and he'd have adjusted... I think this is whats really lost... But they didnt. so all parties were forced to make due.

The Shotcharts on Lonzo Ball, and his magnificent 3pt shooting, coming out of college are why he was selected infront of Jayson Tatum and De'Aaron.. end of story..

IDK I'm one of those crazy people who watches the games and then looks at the skills, I was chomping at the bit in the early season to see Keegan becuase there was a lot of hype about him preseason.. and I get that people take a great deal of comfort in looking at numbers, but sometimes it leads to these wild narrative biases, where we're pigeon holing a players NBA role based on the lesser competition he was forced to play with and against..

He didnt have good players around him at Iowa.. His brother was solid but no real PG, Bohannon is a one dimensional 3pt shooter, no C, they played zone defense, didnt have wings who were decent 3pt shooters.....

My point is that little fractions of seconds where a player would be open or would have bunch of help defense rushing at them affects these shot charts greatly, Murray has a great deal of skills up his sleeve to be effective all over the court, especially when you presume he's got actual NBA players surrounding him instead of amatuers. Now he's got Fox whos a threat to blow past an entire defense in the blink of an eye, and all these NBA quality shooters, and a bigman who can put up 5-6 asssists like Sabonis, defenses wont be able to shade him as often or as quickly and more of the floor will open up for him.

there was always 2nd defenders ready to run at Murray to help, this explains why the midrange game wasnt always open for him, he'd have been playing right into defenses hands/making it easier for opposing teams/coaches settling for midrange shots.. Instead he was using his fakes on the catch and then a 2nd fake on the move near the paint, which is much more of a "this translates to professional basketball" typa thing..

i agree, and as much as I have concerns on the defensive end, I think guys like Murray and Huerter offer a nice amount of switch-ability on defense. Whether Murray is a 4/3 and Huerter is a 2/3, I feel like kings have gotten killed for years on the defensive switching, and having guys that are big enough to flex and switch out who they’re defending is going to be an overall positive on defensive…or at least I hope so!
