Buddy Hield since the trade:
19.7 PPG, 5.6 APG, 5.4 RPG, 46.5% FG, 35.1% 3PT

It is okay to admit that Buddy can still play at a high level.
Really the weirdest thing about the trade is that Tyrese has become the guard shooting threes like the second coming of Steph while Buddy has turned into the well-rounded connector role playing guard on offense (20/5/5!).

Both dudes are getting absolutely torched on defense though.

The idea is for the team to thrive though... I couldnt care less if Fox put up 900.354 points per minute if we lose every damn game.
I'm pretty sure we're all in agreement about this point. I'll at least give them an off-season with a (hopefully) new coach to put things together though before deciding that the trade didn't help. If Fox were putting up these kinds of numbers on any other team we'd be pining to get him here to come "save" us. It's clear whatever bad mojo is circulating around this organization is not going to be an easy fix.

Perspective matters though. We got a little glimpse of this team without Fox and it showed how much talent it lacked in the end. Having someone that can carry an offense w/o help is a great thing, something this franchise hasn't had much of throughout the years. Now hopefully they don't foul this up, accept it, and build towards a "thrive" situation.

Heck yeah, I think this post deadline run by Fox is showing that he can absolutely be "that dude", it's a carry over and improvement on his tremendous run to finish out last season.

I also think Sabonis can be a great #2. We just need a legit coach to unlock that's duo's potential.

... well, a legit coach, better shooters, and a better #3 than Barnes (who I'd be happy to keep around, I just don't think he has what it takes to lean on if Fox and Sabonis are having tough games).

Lotto luck and a home run coaching hire can turn this around quick. Heck, even if only one of those two things happens we might see a major improvement next season.

On the most recent Kings Herald podcast, Jerry Reynolds said McNair doesn’t care about what happens outside the next 2 years, strongly implying he has a playoffs or out ultimatum. Similar mentions of ticket sales and things getting dire in the front office. Still haven’t heard this reported reliably by these whispers are mounting up

I wonder what Vivek’s out is if it continues to crater? We’re last in attendance and apparently the next local TV contract might be worth *less* than the Kings. Does Vivek sell to an ownership group with cash to weather bad years and rebuild? Does relocation come back on the table a la Rams-to-LA? Lots of whispers that something bad happens to the franchise if money doesn’t come pouring back in but it’s hard to imagine what the consequences actually are, beyond ownership losses

Thanks. I need to listen to it.

Thoughts and questions:

1. The 2 yr window makes sense. I think McNair has until next year’s trade deadline.

2. I think the Kings got Covid relief on the mortgage payments for G1C. Don’t remember when those payments restart. Likely soon.

3. Kings are on the hook for a ton of development around the arena. Poor product, inflation that we haven’t seen since the 80s, a town that is still anchored by the state govt, and possibly a recession. Things are looking pretty dire.

4. Teams use early, guaranteed access to playoff tickets to sell season tickets. Despite what others say, from ownership’s view, McNair cost the Kings tens of millions in revenue for next year. Yes, McNair. He’s the top basketball dude. It falls on him. The seat will be HOT.

5. Are those whispers that you’re hearing or that Jerry is? Or both?

6. I think the likeliest scenario is a new managing partner. The Giants have gone through three in the last 20 yrs. Why not the Kings? Two PEs bought into the Kings this off-season, so changing an MP should be more likely. And PEs can raise cash, if the Kings need it, so that should solve some of those issues.

Makes all the sense in the world that his tenure is going to line up with the rest of the Sabonis contract. I said at the time he gambled that he can make this a playoff team good enough to get Sabonis to re-up. And if it fails, it wouldn't matter that he traded Hali (for himself personally) because he'd be out as GM.

If the Kings have a losing record at the trade deadline, you really think McNair is going to survive the season?

Well, we already bet he's going to last beyond the trade deadline :) so yeah I do. I think acquiring Sabonis bought him that extra year. the "2-time all-star" is the kind of pizzazz that Vivek loves to buy into. He'll let that play out into his UFA.
