I wonder how much of an affect Gentry constantly publicly dogging on the team has had. We actually won a few games when he came in but seems like after the first bad loss he’s been going to the press and tearing into the team - and we keep getting worse. Could we be witnessing a brilliant tank commander performance (intentional or not)?

Honestly tanking and getting a high pick is not going to save this team, things need to be torn down completely

What should he say? That the other team deserves a lot of credit and he'll have to look at the tape?

Lol @ anyone who still thinks this is just the problem of one player, be it Buddy or Fox or whoever you want to name.
yeah, the Vlade core is just broken. Approaching something like 200+ games with Fox/Buddy/Barnes/Holmes/Bagley and it just doesn't work. Monte can make all the adjustments in the world on the fringes, but it doesn't really matter if $91 mil of your budget has proven to be a long-term losing base.

The hope just has to be we bottom out so far that Vivek finally gives up the hopeless 8-9-10 seed pursuit so Monte can tear this thing down.

Bagley is not even being used. He's being told to stand in a corner while Holmes gets a bunch of pick and roll opportunities.

It's just nonsense, JJJ gets free-reign to operate but our #2 draft pick needs to get his through the occasional 3 point kick out and hustle points.

It's just crazy. Bagley is basically un-guardable 1v1. Why isn't he ever given a post up ?

It seems to happen a little earlier each year. I go from excited for Kings basketball to angry about Kings basketball and finally land in a spot where I don’t care about Kings basketball. This is the first year I’ve gone through all of the stages before the turn of the calendar year. Indifference is a much healthier place to be.

I don’t think Gentry’s comments have an effect on the players. The Vlade core looks like they’ve already mailed it in.

I do think Gentry knows he won’t get the permanent gig, so he’s clearly defining the hand that he was dealt, should he ever get asked about it in a future job interview.

Give Gentry a roster that fits with enough talent and they're a playoff team. It's not his fault...and Christie won't make the playoffs without a major roster change
No, but the odds of that happening aren't likely at this point anyway. And yes, a lot of that goes on Monte for keeping things mostly the same this summer when he didn't check off almost any of the needs on the list. However, DC represents change and to players that's a positive spin that does little things like creating enough good vibes and new car smells so that things like giving a game ball to someone after a meaningless win happens. Even if it's all an illusion, well, illusion is what 27 teams on average are going on year after year anyway. Join that club first, then see if you can jump to the next.

Bagley got picked twice early in the first. Both times, it was during the gather phase of his initial move towards the rim.

Memphis was attacking Kings players, exploiting their black hole tendencies. You beat that type of defense by passing the ball. The Kings never did it and was abused in the 2h.

And why would they? And for the exact reason you posted below. The shock move was a year too late. Now it's time to create the appearance of a plan moving forward.

They did it early. But when the ball stops dropping offensively and/or the opponent keeps hitting the Kings lose their steam.

Pretty much. There was a tv shot in the middle of the 2nd qtr. Ja was on the bench laughing while Memphis was down like 4 points. I knew then that Memphis was kinda just waiting to turn up the heat in the 2h.

In soccer, u can pretty much tell who’s going to win the game after 30 minutes. Yes, from time to time, there are surprises, but the winning team always controls the shape of the play and the pace of the game. Memphis made this an interior game (shape) and they made sure it was played at a physical, grind it out pace.

It's not the roster. The roster has been flipped countless times the past 15 years and this organization hasn't even lucked into a winning season or star player.

It comes down to how the players are developed, managed and a FO knowing when to pull the plug on something that's not working. I'm not a Fox basher, but if your star player can't get you over the top after 4 years, you move on and try again. I loved Boogie, but the Kings should have traded him when George Karl said. The organization has no foresight and definitely no guts.

The habit of the organization promoting hustle players and making talented players jump through hoops is also counterproductive. This includes what was done to Fox in his first year. Memphis didn't draft better than the Kings. They just handled their young players better. Instilled confidence in them.

I personnally won't be bashing any players on this team until the organization itself gets its act together.

Doug Christie is the right type of coach, but would hate to see his career get stymied before it gets off the ground by coaching for a dysfunctional organization.

That's why Bobby as the interim and DC getting experience under him was the easy move. Half moves. Kangz 101.

Yes, seriously. Just because he's been injured 80% of his career doesn't take away his talent
Bagley doesn’t have the physicality nor the handles to face up and attack opposing bigs off the dribble. JJJ and him were both under developed and I think Bags had better handles at the start of their career. Who bears responsibility for his lack of development? Lack of physical development is on Bags. Lack of focus on his skills? 50/50.

In basketball you can tell to. When a Jones/Metu/Harkless level player is taking 3's and turnaround jumpers and those are the best shots in your offense you're falling right into the other teams hands.

Yeah, Bagley did do some of the physical work but not enough. Never got the strength he needed but them turning him into a space is on them all the way.

Only Kings player with the ability to be elite is Hali. He needs to put on weight to consistently score inside. The rest, sometimes all star—at best. Trade everyone except Haili and Mitchell.

SLAB

Hall of Famer

Lmao If Bagley was “basically unguardable 1v1” he’d probably have more value around the league than “nothing.”

It’s a helluva better first step than winning 37 and picking 11 again.
Can't keep doing that. And this year? Better consider trading that pick because there's a ton of combo G's and smallish SG's on the horizon. Although at this point, I'm totally down with Johnny Davis, dudes the definition of a beastly power guard.

Buddy took 3 yes 3 shots for his 18 million dollar contract SMFH
Give me a break, the guy takes 15 shots fans complain. Takes 3 shots the fans complain. It's more about the shots he does take - they were guarding him quite well and he didn't force anything. He's part of the reason why we lost along with lots of other players.

I'm tired of shooting for mediocrity. This team needs to be shooting for a championship.

I don't see championship habits on the floor,

I bet you if we would play Toronto or Memphis 82 games in a year we would go 0-82 or close to that. There's just no excuses for this.

Looking at our comparative rosters there's just no excuses for this at all.

Those teams seem to play hard and maximize what they have. The Kings don't and I don't blame that on the players
