[Game] Preseason Game 4: Kings vs. Warriors, 12/17/2020, 6:00pm PST, 9:00pm EST

Likely because Whiteside didn't want a multiple year, minimum contract.
he signed a 1 year minimum with the kings. i doubt many teams were beating down his door to sign him. i bet monte could have added an extra non guaranteed year or team or player option, considering some players would like a bit of insurance with a 2nd year

BTW that first gripe i had about monte was kinda said in jest. i never thought i would like hassan this much

Not much insurance if the second year is the minimum. Better off signing for one year and trying to play for a bigger contract.

I don't know, there may have been some connection thing going on. Maybe Rico? Rex? It was reported so early that the Kings wanted him and it was obviously essentially done prior to even the Bogdan stuff going down. I doubt any team was throwing huge money at him but this is someone that's north of 30 and has already made his bucks.

I fear we are going to be regretting giving Fox a max contract. Just too inconsistent (for a max player) and his shot looks even worse than last year.

Goes without saying, but the Kings got significantly better on defense. A top 3 interior defender and a plus perimeter defender in haliburton.
Absolutely! And I think it's rubbing off on the rest of the team. Buddy and Bagley are both looking way more engaged defensively too. It could also be that this Warriors team is garbage... but the eye test at least is a night and day difference.

Fox needs to keep shooting. That's what pre-season is for. He's not going to find his shof if he's afraid to take them. I don't mind the ugly misses as much as I mind him passing up open shots.
Ugly doesn't do it justice. They are barely even hitting rim, and it's been in every game or at least 3 out of 4

If they play this way it was a huge mistake. That starting big unit is again a total negative on the plus minus. If this is what we see against the Nuggz the hurt might be coming early.

Maybe, but you either max him or trade him and try again. Even if he doesn't make the par, still worth the risk.
Agree with you that we didn't have many other options. Hmm.. how would it have worked if we didn't give him a max extension? Would we have been able to go through the normal RFA process?

I’m kind of with you. A max to a guy who can’t shoot is always going to be risky... but it’s something Sacramento absolutely had to do. It might not work, but a team like Sac has to take the plunge when the opportunity arises.

Yeah, and he's short-arming his layups too. It's pretty ugly to watch but he's got to shoot his way out of it. We've seen him make these shots when he's in rhythm. Confidence is more important than results right now. I don't want to see him get in his head cause it's only going to snowball from there.

Honestly the unit hasn't even mattered. It's more of the not hitting FTs, not being a threat from 3, continuing to just force things in traffic. I've seen better playmaking from Buddy and Guy in terms of setting people up consistently. It's preseason, but like I said, you'd expect a lot more from a max player. That said, just as Buddy's big contract really only kicks in this year, I suppose we are technically not paying for Fox to be a max player until next year.

If you just base the Fox contract on his 3 point shooting, then you will be disappointed. He averaged 21, 7 assts, 4 rebs, shot 48%......when he was running Walton’s crapty offense. It’s up to Walton and Gentry to put in a scheme to take advantage of his and Bagley’s talents.......I just don’t think Walton is capable of doing it.

I gotta say, if you had told me before we signed him that the Kings were trying to sign Whiteside to a 3-year deal at $5M per year, I'd have said it was a ridiculous bargain and if Whiteside was willing to go there, then we sign on the line immediately. The only real downside of the ridiculous league-minimum contract is that it's only for one year. But I would guess that Whiteside didn't get the offers that he wanted, and just decided to go for a one-year to try the market again next year, and as everybody is saying, at that point he probably picked a team he knew he'd get serious PT on.

The unit is responsible for spacing. The focus of your offense is getting the best shot you can and preferably created by or for your best players. You can't allow teams to play the middle and the rim (which is where Fox will shine) when prior to this was the gameplan. Space and pace. And Buddy and Guy are totally different players. They have shooting ability to bring defenses out but nothing close to the ability Fox has in pick and roll or at the rim. Again, usage is key when a player isn't without weaknesses.

Sure, but then it starts whatever we end up matching with some bad blood. Possible, although a small chance he pulls a Monroe and accepts qualifying offer and leaves.

Kings Twitter is very engaged in this game.

(the only answer is NO, btw)
The answer is: depending on the other toppings, absolutely. I don't think pineapple is *bad* on pizza, but as its own topping or with other veggie toppings I don't think it really works. With "canadian bacon" (i.e. sliced ham) I only like it OK. But with the extra saltiness of "bacon" bacon, it is quite good.
