Free Agency Thread - 2018

Looks like Portland is going to get lucky if ATL stays away with Nurk. He's probably a 13-14 mil player, but there just isn't the money for him with the teams left. Probably get to keep him on a bargain, even though they're in cap hell.

with the wings pool dwindling down, would we rather overspend for parker or lavine or get a combo of cheaper free agents to fill needs in sf hezonja and back up pg in van vleet or napier? basically all our eggs in one basket or spread the wealth

I'm firmly all-in on team "bring in FVV and Kyle Anderson" as two role players who will make us significantly better next year. So, spread the wealth.

honest question since i havent really followed anderson. they say many players from the spurs are system guys and might not look as good in a different team, but last year he avg 7.9 points and shot 33% from the 3 which isnt too impressive. are we hoping on upward trajection or am i missing something

Think of a slug or a turtle, then reduce its speed by half, that is anderson. He doesnt hurry he doesnt rush. He is steady, makes good decisions with the ball.
He is called slo-mo for a reason. Think zach randolph driving to the basket.
Spurs picked bellineli over him for a reason. The reason is he is not very good

You are missing the other end of the court where he was one of the best defensive wings in the NBA.

I want Capela/Nurkic on the team, but even if others think they are superfluous, get them on asset deals like you tried to do with Hill
I really don't understand your logic with wanting these guys when we have two highly touted big men ready to go on Monday and one flimsy SF in JJ that might not even have a place in the league.

Hill wasn't an asset deal. We're stuck with Shumpert this year because of him.

You're missing a lot.

He's one of the best defenders in the NBA. Advanced stats absolutely love him and he makes an tremendous impact on the game, despite not scoring the ball. He's an extremely talented playmaker and ball-handler for a wing. He's a 3/4 flex wing which are so valuable in today's game.

ESP47 and I had a conversation about it in the Elf Payton thread, with regards to the scoring, but I think he may have the case of just being held back in Pop's offense. There's nothing in his stat profile that suggests he can't handle a much larger workload on offense. His 13% USG is just so weird for a guy who's a good playmaker for his position.and is efficient in scoring. That's honestly the only real question I have with him; what is the reasoning behind the weird 13% USG rate?

You don’t understand they are factually better players than who else is being suggested?

Is that hard?

You're paying a ton of money to possibly upgrade a position by a little bit. Nurkic isn't even that much better than Koufos is. Capela is going to be expensive as hell and Giles has all the makings of a Capela. You sign one of those guys and you're either going to wind up with an albatross contract or a waste of a first round draft pick. Not to mention the fact that the game is moving away from big men so they have even lesser value.

Meanwhile we have the SF position that probably had just about the worst productivity of any team in the entire league last year and you'd be completely ignoring that to upgrade a non position of need by a couple of ticks. Just winding up with an average player at SF makes the team much much better than landing either Capela or Nurkic.

His 3 point % was only 33% though. This team does need someone to score, especially from three point land. He has BBIQ, good playmaker, but not a great guy at finishing plays from what I've seen.

Are we going round that again? I said Buddy/Bogdan hopefully could start and JJ at this point is underrated, and nobody knows what Giles is and how he can be relied upon on this board.

But, taking that away, the difference in talent between Capela/Nurkic (slightly better than Koufos) and Kyle Anderson or Hezonja supersedes positional concern for me

Nah JJ is going to be in the league for 10+ years.
