Summer League: California Summer Classic (July 2-5)

Before I google it, as I am trying to take in all the new posts after a long night at work, will this be televised on ESPN? NBATV?

I will be working no matter what time they start and my options are limited at work, but I would love to be able to at least glance up at these games.

Have to admit, I dig having a flatscreen on the line ( Kitchen) ; it's the little things in life...

On Thursday, the games are at 12 and 2pm. You are probably doing prep, but maybe you have a chance to go see those.

I'm going Monday... can't wait to see Future HOFer Giles and the best player in the 2018 draft (sarcasm....or maybe not? :p)!

Cameron Reynolds is listed as a 6’7” combo guard out of Tulane. In his senior season, he averaged 15.1 points, 6.3 boards, and 2.2 assists while knocking down 35% of his shots from deep. He was not ranked on any available big boards, and the Front Office likely signed him to a non-guaranteed summer league deal, giving him a shot to earn a two-way contract or possibly join the Stockton Kings.

Marcus Foster played for Kansas State for two years prior to transferring to Creighton where he also suited up for two seasons. He’s a 6’3” guard who put up 19.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and also made 41% of his attempts from beyond the arc. He was also unranked heading into draft night, but will get a chance to run the show in Summer League if De’Aaron Fox plays limited minutes.

so I understand getting a PG and Combo guard to look at since we need maybe a 3rd PG for insurance, or two-way contract?
but where is the undrafted SF? Even if Vlade does look in FA for a SF shouldnt we look at at least for a 2 way contract on a SF?

Would be stupid if the Kings kept him out of SL. Outside of a few clutch shots, he's done next to nothing the other 99% of the time to warrant anyone deeming him above playing in SL.
I agree Fox should definitely be playing SL, most second year players do unless they have really, really productive rookie seasons. Fox should be begging the coaches to play, second year players dominate SL and gives them confidence going into the season. I absolutely want to see Fox, Giles and Bagley playing in SL

I am currently in North Alabama so won't be able to make it to a game, unfortunately :D

Was mainly curious if they might be televised. I can watch if it's on ESPN but not NBAtv

Why is there so much hype with Giles? I never understood this.
Giles was basically the clear #1 kid in his high school class before his injuries (and even AFTER recovering from the first); the injuries were both contact injuries, which doesn't imply Giles is inherently "fragile"; Giles is reportedly fully healthy after his year off and is again reportedly wowing us in practice.

Giles is expected to be the full package - if he maintains his athleticism he's basically Bagley with a better handle and much better passing. Bagley/Giles has the makings of a scary good frontcourt. It will be tough for it to deal defensively with the Embiids and perhaps Aytons of this world, but there aren't many that can deal with them. Offensively it could be the best tandem we've seen in a while.

I get all of that, but I also don't understand the way people speak of him as if he's already a big piece. He might be, and I'm definitely hopeful, I just find it strange that people are actually expecting him to be a great player. Two ACL tears, regardless of how it happened, is not going to be easy to come back from. Especially with so much time away from competitive basketball. I mean I hope he is as great as everyone says, but I do find it a little unfair to pile so much expectation on to him.

To me it is like having healthy MPJ coming on your team.
Lot of uncertainties, but also a lot of hope with Giles.

I did a bit of research on these two. Cam Reynolds looks like a wing. I saw his measurements at 6-7 and 6-8. In clips, he looks big enough to be a wing and has a decent outside shot. He had an injury season, but I couldn't find what the problem may have been. So he was at Tulane for 5 years and comes into the NBA as a virtual senior citizen! That's at least part of the reason he didn't get drafted.

Marcus Foster has some athleticism. He thinks he's got PG skills, but I'm not sure if he got to play PG much in college. We'll soon see what he's got. He definitely puts up points. Both of these guys look like worthy summer league signings.

Don't know if you want to spend any money, but in the past NBA League Pass has had a Summer League-only membership, which is nice because you can watch games live or in archive. Not sure if they'll have the option this year or not, but something to look out for if you want to catch games and can't watch them live.
