Summer League: California Summer Classic (July 2-5)

isn't it only rookies, sophomores and free agents? or is that not the rule and it just happens so?
nope, no rules at all in terms of NBA experience. You normally don't see any players entering their 3rd year in the SL because they're usually too good for it already. However, Skal has not proven that at all. He needs SL reps to get his confidence up. Papagiannis and Malachi are also going to be playing in SL.

Extremely disappointing draft from Vlade.

Slim pickings that year in general, still holding out hope for Skal...

In their cases, they're simply fighting to stay in the league while Skal has shown himself to be at least a rotation player (on our roster at least). Not to mention, he'd only be taking minutes away from our two rookie bigs.

Good grief. Could we just let that go for a bit? Don't need to derail the fun Summer League thread with that tired old saw.

Anyone good with photo shop and want to make a photo of Marvin Bagley and Harry giles photoshoppped over the bad guys from home alone? Saw on Reddit that people were calling them the "wet bandits." Me and my buddy are sitting right behind the kings bench and think this would make a phenomenol t shirt.

I was intrigued with Justin Jackson last year and correct me if what I am thinking I saw last year.
I believe our not having a really decent starting SF he pretty much got thrown to the wolf’s.

What I would normally think a player picked in the draft where he was would be brought along slowly with hope he would develop properly in a few years. But he received some nice minutes last season and hopefully that helps him this season.

To me he was not really aggressive enough and was not in a position except for that outside shot. I rather believe it was more the case of the coaching and the need to have a body out there that hopefully played to his strengths like shooting.

I do not hear many folks talking about him but I hope he is more comfortable within the system this year and has a bigger part of this rebuild?

I would love if he came in much more confident and would take a jump, but the reality is at best I think he can be a solid role player. There are some other players drafted around him that now look more promising; however if he sticks as a long term solid bench performer, that’s not the end of the world. If he comes into camp not hitting his shots ( and last year it seemed like he had a talent for clanking wide open threes), I don’t see him with much of a role. He’s not a big enough/tough enough guy to be a defensive force and I don’t see that ever changing.

Fingers crossed that we get to see something out of these guys.

Last years summer league was such a disappointment. Fox, Malachi and Mason got hurt. Skal and Papa didn't look very good. We basically got one good game out of JJ, one good quarter out of Hield and had to rely on Naz Mitrou-Long to win games for us.

Obviously, the guys I want to watch most are Giles and Bagley but also want to see a bigger and better JJ. I’m not worried about Fox, he already looks bigger but JJ from the few vids I’ve seen looks the same. I think this is a hugely important summer and year for him. If he doesn’t improve they may dump him like Papa and Malachi.
