Have you guys seen the result of the draft poll? The fanbase wants Luka in a landslide. If the FO drafts MPJ the fanbase will be completely ambushed and outraged. If that’s how the FO is leaning they need to get the word circulating now or they will have a PR disaster on their hands.
I think you're making too much of the poll results. The vast majority of people active in these threads have a favorite BUT they have also indicated they'll be happy with Doncic, Bagley, Porter... There isn't going to be any PR disaster.

Napier never says the source on something like this. You have to read between the lines that he talked to someone in the know in the FO. One of the few times that I ever heard Napier being blindsided on something like this was when he said the Kings wouldn't entertain going after Artest because he was a head case, and then they made the deal for Artest; he was totally dumbfounded with that announcement. Other than that I can't recall where he made an announcement like this and was wrong.
I can pretty much guarantee the FO is NOT spilling the beans to Grant or anybody else on the media team. It may have been done with PDA, but Petrie wouldn't allow it and I'm pretty sure Vlade won't either. Napear is right a lot of the time because he's been doing this a long time. He's also been wrong, though, too although it's hard to pinpoint because he's very good as covering his ass.

If true, that is a relief. Grant says he'd take Michael Porter #2 if he checks out medically. I sure hope Vlade & co have a different plan.

Taking Porter is a big risky swing even if you trade down and get other assets and hedge against the chance he busts. It won't anger me at all but it will make or break Vlade's tenure here.

The draft can't get here fast enough.o_O

I've really enjoyed the DimeDrop videos this draft season. The production value, pacing, humor, analysis (even when I don't agree) is always good and they are entertaining as well. I'm glad to see he's picking up subscribers and I hope he does this for drafts to come

Anyway, he posted his thoughts about Porter so the subsequent video will likely show up in the next day or two:

Interesting. Seems he missed the data point of the injury occurring due to a fall. If true and the doctor thinks it’s not a structural issue then I think you have to think hard about Porter. If he does have medical issues I think we go Bagley and hope he can shoot and use his right hand.

I liked the video and thought it was fair. I was surprised he didn't have the info on how Porter hurt his back, and what Porter had to say about his upright position. Maybe he made the video prior to some of the interviews with Porter. For those that don't know, Porter hurt his back in his sophmore year of highschool when he got undercut on a dunk and fell straight down on his back. He said he played his junior and senior years with some back discomfort, and that was why he played so upright. It hurt his back to get into the normal crouched position on defense, or to get into a lower dribbling position.
Yes, that is what Porter has been saying about when he was injured. We have to take that explanation with a grain of salt though, because there was no report of that injury until the pre-draft interviews.

It could be the reason on how he hurt his back or it could be his agent coaching him on what to say about the injury. We really don't know, because there is no video or reports of his back injury when it actually happened in his sophomore year.

The best case scenario is that the injury happened the way Porter described it, on a freak court injury a couple of years ago. The worse case scenario is that it happened due to a structural issue with his back.

We don't know anything for sure, but I sure hope the back specialist the Kings are hiring to give an independent review of MPJ's back injury can figure it out. Hopefully he can decipher if the back issue will be chronic or if it was just from one freak injury.

I looked up microdiscectomy. I found an article about Tiger Woods that turned out to be pretty interesting. One tidbit:

Though the success rate of this type of procedure is usually 90 percent or higher, there are chances for complications, which include dural tears, nerve root damage, bladder incontinence or bleeding. Most of the time, however, the operation is safe, effective, and rarely results in recurrent herniated discs.

...I confess. My mind immediately focused on the third complication listed... It must be a KANGZ thing and I apologize profusely.

Porter would be an absolute disaster. He is objectively not as good a prospect as Bagley, let alone Doncic even if he had no injury concern. The injury risk only adds to the stupidity that pick would be.

But even without the injuries, why gamble on a kid who never played meaningful minutes at the college level? Porter isn't a sure-thing LeBron level talent after all. He was a top HS recruit but once Bagley reclassified HE became the consensus #1 recruit AND went and had a great season at Duke.

Why would Porter, without NCAA tape and having back surgery now be a better prospect?

There is a difference between not really being a fan of a player, and really not wanting a player. I think it matters of the draft pick outright peeves half the fan base. I’m not necessarily a Bamba guy, but if he’s picked, whatever. Mikal Bridges, Young, etc can be good players regardless of fit or upside. But I really don’t want Porter. Just not that, and I think many feel just that way.

get off your pedestal dude. I've never been disrespectful to anyone and I am reiterating my friend who you can see in the Bagley workout. I'm not name dropping so don't ask. Luka, Porter, and Bagley all will be good players IMO so let's not be too hasty and be happy with our choice with the 2nd pick. #invladeitrust either way we are in a terrific spot to elevate our team's success!
LOL, so your friend was someone prominent at the workout and knows we are not taking Luka??? You don't have to confirm or deny or spill any secrets to me if you don't want to. I already determined on my own who we are taking (see my Avatar) . ;) .

Yeah, I heard that too. He said he hasn't talked to anyone about it and his opinions on who they may draft are his own opinion and nothing more. He also said that if Porter wasn't 100% (and he was unambiguous about it), he thinks Luka is the guy.

Confirmation bias, recency bias, cognitive dissonance. Just to name a few.

I couldnt care less if he was the number #1 recruit out of high school. They usually miss on a lot of those (Wiggins, Jackson..). Even at the beginning of last year there were concerns about MPJ because of his efficiency, limited handle, mentality and iQ. And thats despite being one year old for his class. And then he misses out on another full year of basketball development. Even if he is healthy for the rest of his career, that is a huge concern.

Man, if he has to be the pick, then I am at least hoping for a trade down.

1. Not a dude
2. I didn't say you were disrespectful. I said you were doing a disservice to a lot of passionate Kings fans.
3. What does reiterating your friend (sic) have to do with anything? Name dropping doesn't get you anywhere around here. I can absolutely guarantee there are people on this board with much better connections to various organizations than you've ever dreamed of.

If so I don't think that helps his draft position at all. Hopefully we pass if we aren't 110% sure he's OK, and cancelling workouts isn't a good sign.
Unless he comes in for a workout, I don't see the Kings taking him anymore. Way too much ???? around him.
Or maybe Vlade gave him a promise that he'd take him at #2
I've been a very big MPJ defender (I have him #5 though), but I would NOT be happy if we drafted MPJ without bringing him for a private workout AND medical evaluation. I already didn't like that he had the Bulls be the only team to do a medical on him which according to Steven Kyler(not all that reliable), he'd only share with teams who were serious about him.

HARD PASS. Too many red flags. I'd be a very unhappy camper.

If he cacelled his workout then scr

I’ll do a lap and assume it shuts the door

Now we can have a civil convo about who to take
It sure brings up a lot of questions, doesn't it? WHY would he cancel and not just postpone? I truly think there's something in those physical reports he's afraid of.

kingsboi

Hall of Famer
Just because he canceled, doesn't mean his medical reports aren't accurate. For all we know, he may have a promise in the top 5, by either the Kings, Grizzlies or Mavs

Or maybe Vlade gave him a promise that he'd take him at #2
I doubt Porter would cancel a workout due to a promise from the Kings.

If anything, that may motivate him more to have an even better workout, so some team would trade up to #1 to take him or someone would offer the Kings a sweetheart of a deal to move up to #2.

I find canceling a workout, when you have no college tape and coming off an injury to be a red flag. Other high picks like Bagley, Bamba, JJJ are doing individual workouts for several teams.
