Michael Porter Jr

This is pretty much true of almost every fan base. They all tend to think they know more than their team's FO and that the team will somehow screw things up.
All fanbases have stupid fans. I'll just say I am confident in my basketball knowledge. Im just a guy on the internet but I know I understand the game and have put in the hours watching the game and playing so I will always have confidence in my opinions.

does that mean Porter will let our doctors examine him? I hadn't heard that. and I don't know how a Bulls medical eval can constitute a true "green light".
Yes, it is going to be a Kings' back specialist, but my understanding is results will be given to other teams as well. Now whether just the Kings are paying the doctor or there are many teams paying him, I couldn't tell you. I just reported verbatim what Napier said.

Here's what I don't get with Porter. Brandon Roy says he's amazing and Brandon Roy is a guy who would know. Others have said he looked like he had superstar potential coming out of HS. But if Porter is an elite prospect worthy of a first overall pick, how come there is zero footage of him online that shows it? I've never seen a guy with this much hype that has no good tape online. And it's not like he's a mystery man -- there's a ton of highlight mixes, some full games, workout videos etc. He's tall and a pretty fluid athlete. I sortof get it. He's basically Marvin Bagley's size with a similar level of athleticism but with better ball skills and no college tape.

The funny thing is, I see Doncic as the guy with superstar potential and Porter as a guy who will probably just be a good scorer in the NBA but I have a hard time seeing reach that superstar level. I have a long history of disliking "pure scorers" though so it's probably just my biases betraying me. I see a guy who at his peak can probably fill up a scoreboard like Melo but is similarly one-dimensional in terms of his overall impact. That's not a player I'm excited about. Especially when the alternatives include (1) a 6'8" point forward (this is probably my ideal basketball player archetype), (2) the best C prospect since Greg Oden (3/4) 2 DPOY type bigs, (5) an elite 3 (43% on 239 shots) and D (absurd length and good anticipation) wing, and (6) one of my favorite college wings of the last 5 years (that one is Miles Bridges).
That's my struggle with Porter too. I like the idea of him (long, athletic, perimeter based, go-to scorer with a great shot) but I don't like his tape. He settles for a lot of jumpers that a dominate player shouldn't have to settle for.

I think he'll be very inefficient his rookie season.

We'll see.

It's not so much negativity towards Porter as it is counteracting the Rubio-esque aura surrounding him. I can only imagine what AV would be saying.
I'm really glad KF has been very open to other prospects. Lots of open minded people around here! I go on other forums/reddit, and I see nothing but fans trashing other fans for like another prospect more than Doncic. I don't see it here at all. Lots of back and forth comparing prospects, but it's good discussion going on.

The hype around Doncic is very crazy though. Much bigger than the crowd around Fox last year. I'll say this... if we draft a player the majority don't like, I hope it's a Kristaps Porzingis 2.0 scenario where the crying kid ends up with his jersey.

If it's MPJ, it just better not be at 2. You can get him at 4, probably even 5. So if they're all in on him, trade the **** down and pillage a team for some assets. I don't like MPJ at all, but if say we get him at 5 and the Mavs unprotected 2019 pick? I think it's a mistake passing on Doncic, but I'd at least be pleased we made a smart FO decision and got back a good enough haul to keep the engine moving.
I can imagine the emotional roller coaster now. Kings draft doncic, half the forum goes crazy and celebrate. Only to find out a few minutes later that they drafted him to trade down to Memphis or Dallas.

So I am glad we will finally get an exam from Our Guy and a review of all imaging and medical records

But the part of your post I am most interested in is "They either think he's healthy, or he's not. And if they think he's healthy, it sounds 99.9% sure that they pick him #2."

so this is Grant's opinion? that he is sure 99% porter will be picked? or did he actually hear FO tell him that?

Woj would have already leaked the trade so it would be another Salmons/Jimmer situation where we have hours to ruminate in our misery.

id love this if we can get porter but i doubt that hawks pass on him or that if does slip down to 4 that Memphis wouldnt rather have him over luka

I think Fox would have had even more hype last year but many of us weren't convinced he would fall to us at 5. I think most thought the top 4 would consist of Fultz, Ball, Jackson and Fox.

It won't be Memphis. They have no young players to trade and don't have their 2019 1st rounder.

I’m getting into the podcast Hour 1, and so far I’m thinking Kingster jumped the gun on portraying how Grant/Doug broached the subject. Sounds a lot more like guesswork a few minutes in and nothing conclusive

He mentioned later it was a group of teams going in on the back expert.

Smh just embarrassing man no strength and can’t get to the rim like his usual highlights can’t eveb dribble the ball.
Good lord he looks bad there. Like not even draftable.

I don't know much on this guy other than his couple college games and the videos I've watched online but it seems as if everyone keeps talking about how awesome he's looked when they've scouted him pre injury but everything outside of his highlight videos looks terrible. Takes incredibly inefficient shots and is inefficient at making those inefficient shots. His handle in that video is like YMCA level and I'm not even expecting anything other than average handling from the kid.

Is there any evidence out there of him looking good in a real game against real sized players? I'm not talking about highlight videos that only show his made shots or that just have a bunch of pointless dunks and lobs. I'm talking real tape against high level kids his age where he actually looks like one of the top players in the country? Does footage of this even exist?

so knicks want to trade up for porter

so what would we want from knicks?

I do not see any pics they can trade to us

don't want any of their players
The Knicks don't appear to have any encumbered picks, so they could trade #9 this year + future pick(s). But I'm not hot about dropping down to #9 in this draft barring a Brooklyn-style theft. If they want to give us 2019 free and clear, and a 2020 swap, and 2021 free and clear, and a 2022 swap, and Miles Bridges is there at #9...then I think about it.

Brandon Roy was his coach so you take his opinion with a grain of salt

This is all still speculation. There is no way in hell the front office tells Grant they plan to draft him, and even IF they told him in confidence there is no way in hell he goes on air with the info. I think he’s just making an observation, albeit with probably a little more info than we have. I’m not saying porter isn’t going to be the pick but I highly doubt it’s decided at this point that he’s the man pending a clear bill of health.

Come on. If those last two games were of Porter "ready to play", then no way am I drafting him #2.

For MPJ's sake and whoever winds up drafting him, let's hope he did rush back to play and wasn't ready to play.

A heroic effort to help his teammates because they needed him is a lot better narrative for him than being fully ready and playing like crap for those last 2 games.

I think MPJ has said so himself that he wasn't fully ready to play for those games, I think he said he was around 70%.
70% would be exceedingly generous. In his college games, beyond not being in mid-season shape, it was clear that D1 college ball is a lot faster than high school, and working out on your own to prepare is not going to get the job done. His motives were admirable but he was nowhere near ready to play. Fast forward to today...We all know that the NBA is a lot faster and more demanding than college ball. Michael may well end up being even better than advertised, but fans of whichever team gets him will have to understand it's going to take awhile... he's still working out on his own, not yet training with NBA players in a pro competitive environment, and he is not going to be ready to play at the NBA level out of the gate. This whole "hold a single workout in a controlled environment" thing may seem like a good way to cover this up, but I doubt anyone is fooled. With MPJ the issue is potential, not plug-and-play, and I think he has that in spades. I look for him to be a Dirk or a Durant before it's all done.

Does anyone have his shooting percentages? He's touted as this great shooter by his supporters but when I see his tape I see a guy who has a hunch and it makes his release less than optimal. He's 6'10 but with the hunch that he plays with it's closer to defending a 6-6, 6-7 guy. Something I noticed last year with Justin Jackson. JJ is 6'8 but also plays with a hunch and his release is usually short.
