Michael Porter Jr

They WILL take him if the doctor gives a green light. If doctor gives a yellow light, they will not take him, per Napier.
Why would the announcer of the Kings, a team employee, outright tell the rest of the teams who the Kings are picking? I don't think this organization is THAT STUPID. Then again the stupidity of this organization never ceases to amaze me.
Why wouldn’t the Suns take him and extort something? Why would Napear have the inside track to the FO

Either way, I mean I don’t like wishing injury, but i hope Porters back saves us detractors

If the Kings were really that high on MPJ they would make every effort to say the opposite to try and get assets in a trade down while still getting "their guy".
The doctor's results are going to be public to several other teams. If the doctor gives a green light Porter isn't going to be there for a trade down.

If Suns take him, Kings take Ayton, presumably. Napier and Divac have been buddies for years. I think everything hinges on the doctor's opinion. The only other scenario I see is the doctor gives a green light and then some team breaks the bank to trade up with Kings to get Porter.

does that mean Porter will let our doctors examine him? I hadn't heard that. and I don't know how a Bulls medical eval can constitute a true "green light".

I don't think so either.. and why would they tell Grant of all people??

I wouldn't be happy with that selection.

I would however give Porter the benefit of the doubt and see what kind of player he turns out to be.

But whether it's Porter or someone else - if the Kings draft a player who ends up being a bust or disappointment while guys taken after #2 turn into stars, I'm going to take a break from this team for a while. With no 2019 pick and no franchise player to build on this really is the best shot this team will have for a while to significantly improve. They really can't screw it up.

And I freely admit that I could be wrong, but drafting Porter Jr sure seems to me like screwing it up.
If it's MPJ, it just better not be at 2. You can get him at 4, probably even 5. So if they're all in on him, trade the **** down and pillage a team for some assets. I don't like MPJ at all, but if say we get him at 5 and the Mavs unprotected 2019 pick? I think it's a mistake passing on Doncic, but I'd at least be pleased we made a smart FO decision and got back a good enough haul to keep the engine moving.

I just think it's a bad FO decision to take Porter in this draft. Getting back a 2019 first round pick after stupidly trading one away might mitigate things slightly but it's still a bad decision. And it would just rub salt in the wound if and when that Dallas pick is higher than the Kings pick they have to give to Philly.

Oh agreed. I'm on the "fade MPJ" bandwagon. BUT if they're absolutely sold on the kid for some reason, then they need to do the responsible thing, trade down to 4 or 5, and collect assets. Taking him at 2 is not only stupid talent evaluation, it's stupid asset management.

The thing is, if the rumors are true and they really are sold on him, they are (a) telegraphing it to everyone which puts them at a disadvantage in trades and (b) probably convinced that if they don't take him at #2 someone else will snatch him away.

Ugh. I'm starting to wish the Kings had stayed at #7. I would have been okay with MPJ at that point. . .

I mean, it's us. Blue-chip prospects all over the place and we apparently like the guy with a recent back-surgery and has no game-tape for a year.

I tried to tell tou guys. Is there any doubt he will get a green light? They had to guarantee him at #2 in order to even exam him, surely. This is merely a formality to try to mitigate fan outrage. Congrats to Atlanta, they now get to extort Dallas for Doncic and still get Bagley, JJJ, or Bamba.

I’ll forever hate Vlade and the FO

Doing 100% again what I don’t want

I don’t deserve it.

Pick Carter or Bridges over Porter for all I care

Hideous management hired by incompetent ownership
And you wonder why you and I clash? :p

NOTHING HAS BEEN SETTLED. NO ONE HAS BEEN DRAFTED.

NEWS BULLETIN: On Friday in Chicago the Sacramento Kings' back specialist will evaluate the imaging and all the tests previously done, and give Porter his own inspection. Then either Kings go with him, or not, on that basis. They will know after this weekend whether they go with Porter. So says Napier as I type. Sacramento will not trade down to get him. They either think he's healthy, or he's not. And if they think he's healthy, it sounds 99.9% sure that they pick him #2. The specialist may not release findings until he has chance to review, maybe a day or so later; not exactly sure on that.

Napier believes that Kings pick Bagley or Doncic if Porter is not given a clean bill of health.
Nice! That’s all I wanted

REMINDER: Grant Napear ALWAYS speaks in absolutes, so for him to make it sound as though Porter would be in if his physical checks out is not unusual. I'm pretty sure Vlade is not sharing anything with Grant or James Ham or even his old teammate Doug Christie. Doug is one of my 3 all-time favorite Kings but he's not a scout and his judgment is not the end-all determination on who the Kings will draft.

Could they be right? Yep. Could they be wrong? Yep. Could they be drumming up interest in talking about someone other than Doncic? Yep. It's a long time until draft day. Some of you are going to need tranquilizers at this rate if you don't take these things with a grain of salt.

Bottom line? We're gonna get a good player out of this draft. When's the last time we could truly say that?

I'm pretty sure each year we have ever been in the top 10(over a decade now) we have all thought we would get a good player. Problem is front office has missed a ton of times. Missing out on guys like Lillard, Khawai, Klay, Giannis, Mitchell, Cj McCollum over guys like Trob, Jimmer, Ben Mclemore etc. There is a reason the fan base is on pins and needles right now.

One thing to keep in mind is filling radio air time.

If we are bad next year, see what a snooze fest the radio will be without a pick next year barring a trade.

This is pretty much true of almost every fan base. They all tend to think they know more than their team's FO and that the team will somehow screw things up.

There's a difference between being on pins and needles and being at the very edge of the cliff with your pinkies hanging over the abyss.

Here's what I don't get with Porter. Brandon Roy says he's amazing and Brandon Roy is a guy who would know. Others have said he looked like he had superstar potential coming out of HS. But if Porter is an elite prospect worthy of a first overall pick, how come there is zero footage of him online that shows it? I've never seen a guy with this much hype that has no good tape online. And it's not like he's a mystery man -- there's a ton of highlight mixes, some full games, workout videos etc. He's tall and a pretty fluid athlete. I sortof get it. He's basically Marvin Bagley's size with a similar level of athleticism but with better ball skills and no college tape.

The funny thing is, I see Doncic as the guy with superstar potential and Porter as a guy who will probably just be a good scorer in the NBA but I have a hard time seeing reach that superstar level. I have a long history of disliking "pure scorers" though so it's probably just my biases betraying me. I see a guy who at his peak can probably fill up a scoreboard like Melo but is similarly one-dimensional in terms of his overall impact. That's not a player I'm excited about. Especially when the alternatives include (1) a 6'8" point forward (this is probably my ideal basketball player archetype), (2) the best C prospect since Greg Oden (3/4) 2 DPOY type bigs, (5) an elite 3 (43% on 239 shots) and D (absurd length and good anticipation) wing, and (6) one of my favorite college wings of the last 5 years (that one is Miles Bridges).

I think Vlade is already under a tighter scrutiny than a typical GM, so fans don’t have typical trust is the issue

If it was Petrie or Brandon Williams.. Vlade is highly regarded as a questionable GM already, so that latitude isn’t the same
