Watching the playoffs it seems more and more that big 6'8'' wings that can defend 1-4 and put the ball on the floor & shoot are dictating the league more and more. The versatility of guys like Otto Porter, Jay Crowder or even a rookie like Taurean Prince allow for very effective lineups where they give the guards spacing on offensive and defend the other guys perimeter threats on defense. Combined with an slashing guard they make for a deadly combo.
Despite our youth movement we currently don't have such a player. This may partially be because Joerger likes to play big, but he too did play Matt Barnes a good amount of minutes at the 4.
However, I can a scenario where we not only get one but two of these players in the upcoming draft. The guy that fits the description above is obviously OG Anunoby. Being 6'8'' with a 7'4" wingspan and being built like a brick wall the guy can legitimately guard 1-4. He also can put the ball on the floor to play taller 4s off the floor. His shot is still in question but he has a decent chance to improve it once he comes to the league. However he's coming of a serious injury so taking him at #8 or #10 could be a bit risky. However, as @
hrdboild pointed out in another post, Stan Van Gundy might be interested to move up from #12 to #10 to make sure he gets a big guy like Zach Collins or Lauri Markannen who easily could be gone by #12. Since he doesn't seem to value Stanley Johnson as much and Stanley had a bad end to the season, I would try to buy low and let Stanley be the asset to move up from #12. In return, we could still offer #34, Detroits own 2020 pick and/or taking back a larger salary. It might seem like a deal well in our favor, but if SVG has Collins/Markannen in the top 5 on his big board it's a fair deal.
At #12 we could then comfortably take Anunoby. I really like the idea of getting both Anunoby and Johnson because down the line it allows for very versatile lineups. You can go extremly big, playing Bogdanovic at the 2, one of Anunoby/Johnson at the 3, Skal at the 4, and Willie/Papa at 5. Or you go small and still not loose much defense with Johnson at the 3, Anunoby at the 4, and Skal at the 5 once he fills out.
Edit: I just realized that me might also draft Ntilikina at #8. I still have Fox higher, but man, down the line we could close games with a Ntilikina-Bogdanovic-Johnson-Anunoby-Skal lineup. Good luck trying to shoot over them as everyone is at least 6'5'' with a 6'11'' wingspan.
