OH MY GAWD!!! I didn't even consider he would opt in!!!!! Wow great horribly sad point on ur part
Yes, he will be opting in at this point and that is exactly what guaranteed contracts are for.
However let's NOT be all doom and gloom about this. I am assuming the worst about the injury, but I am not assuming the worst possible outcome for the Kings. It will hurt the cap room next year.
There are some positives. First, we may actually get better without Rudy. Much as I love the guy. My eye test tells me it just wasn't working out. We are still very much in the hunt for 8th seed.
This accelerates the team developing chemistry without Rudy, and opens room to play some younger players and guys we hope to keep around. If, like Joerger said, the first half was about using analytics to see who we wanted to go forward with, we can be sure Rudy did not make that cut. We can also be sure other guys did. We will now be playing those other guys.
This is unfortunate, and I feel for Rudy, but this is likely the last time we see him in a Kings uni. I expect we trade his expiring deal next year. Which is another plus. A 14mil expiring contract is nothing to sneeze at. To be honest, and this may sound harsh, but we may be able to get more out of him as an expiring contract than now, especially a guy that probably won't be expecting minutes. We obviously had been trying with no luck.
Cheer up all. The sky is not falling. Only lots of rain.
