The Sacramento Kings will be one of the first teams to experiment with the NBA’s jersey sponsorship program. Partnership with Blue Diamond.

Really? I say Nuts to this WTH? Its bigger than the Crown?

I'm pleasantly surprised in how this looks. They accomplished it without it looking tacky or too out of place.

I only have 2 critiques of it:
1) It's a bit larger than I'd like. I was hoping for something that fit like the Sixers Stub Hub patch.
2) The navy blue clashes with the purple. If the patch was purple to match the uniform, it'd look so much better.

All a ploy to confuse Draymon Green. He will never know where to hit our players.
I almost did a spit-take with my meal when I read this. Hilarious.

What isn't hilarious is the reality of the NBA's greedy decision to destroy the clean looks of NBA jerseys.
These players represent the NBA and their team - NOT whatever company wants to hand over cash.
You can brand your logo on the building, on the broadcasts, on the vehicles, etc - but when you put a logo on a player, not only is it a distracting visual, you are announcing how desperate and greedy your league is and at the same time showing the world that you value your corporate sponsors more than the players, audience, or the sport.

This is coming guys. All across the NBA, Silver+ the NBA have sold their dignity, so you will see much much more of this.

And really, given that this is coming, that little patch is about as classy and inconspicuous as you could hope for. Wait until Tide and Depends start to get involved.
The writing may be on the wall, but I don't have to like it, or even feel okay about it.

What's next? We require that the Kings players actually eat the nuts? Fine them if they don't?

I hate the whole idea. Is the NBA becoming NASCAR? Is Sacramento really that hard up for cash? If this is "progressive" management count me out.

Its NBA wide. Part of the inexorable march of, well, greed really. Anything that can be monetized will be monetized, and I would imagine within the NBA family there are few parties willing to stand on principles of dignity. Owners like money. Players like money. Really left to just the fans and maybe a few coaches or GMs to wrinkle their noses.

This was a long time coming. Can't say I'm surprised...look at Soccer jerseys and their sponsorships, for example; View attachment 5780
And I pity the kids and adults who don those jerseys which are just advertisements for international companies who don;t even have any foothold in America.
Do the fans know how dumb they look sporting logos for foreign companies in the guise of a team jersey?

Don't buy the jerseys than. Only way to voice your disapproval as a fan. When the majority of the fanbase starts to boycot the jerseys with advertising it might lead to the owners thinking twice about sponsorships.
But coming from a European scoccer background I wouldn't get my hopes up, if I were you. Most of the fans will buy the jerseys nonetheless. They simply don't care about the advertising and in a few years it will be a absolutely normal part of the jersey, allowing the owners and players to make even more money.

I don't see what's wrong with it, if it benefits the NBA/owners/players than 1 couple logo's is fine, the UFC did the opposite thing where fighters are no longer allowed to have anything other than Reebook gear and it made them way poorer and was horrible for the fighters. More money from sponsors in particular for markets that are not doing well/not selling out can be beneficial since it gives the team extra money to do the little things to make a quicker turnaround.

I see no reason why not to buy the jersey

I personally want to wear a jersey of my team and not some kind of advertising pillar for Fly Emirates (sponsor of my scoccer team) or some other big company.
But fighting against commercialization in sports is a fight against windmills and solely something for little left wing idealists like myself. ;)
The NBA does a pretty decent job until now to balance the monetary interests of owners and players with the interest of the fans to watch an exciting product. A few logos on the jerseys won't change that over night.
But I totally understand the die hard purists, who don't want something else on the jersey other than the actual NBA and franchise logos.
