So how did Vlade do on the hire?

Watched Dave interview. He talked a lot in the long term basis, about establishing a way of playing for many years. I thought that was interesting. His view of the Kings seems drastically different from the general media view that I've seen.

Also, he denied that he approached the Kings before he was hired. I did have some worrying that there was some tampering going on, but there was no sign of that in the press conference.

it's just an introductory press conference, but i've gotta say, dave joerger ticked a lot of the boxes that i deem most important for this team going forward: defense. chemistry. accountability. loyalty. the roster needs work, but whatever shape the kings take into training camp, i'm expecting improvement in the win/loss column next season. :)

Interesting question: tampering with players is illegal...but I actually am not sure if tampering with coaches or front office people is? I think the tampering problem is free agency, which is bargained over. If we had said, we want Pop to be our coach next year, would San Antonio have had any recourse? Not sure I can directly recall any instance of that.

Then again you normally have to ask permission to talk to an assistant coach or front office guy...but that may just be so that the coach/front office guy isn't in violation of his contract and can't be fired over it. Not sure if there are consequences to the scoundreling team or not.

Vlade just clarified that he will talk to the current assistants - both Corliss Williamson and Nancy Lieberman will possibly be back.
Echos what Jason Jones just said on the afternoon show on KHTK. He said both of them will be back, if they want to.

JJ also said that it's not all good in the family with nancy. He said she was staying on cause the kings are highly tuned in to the bad publicity that would fall on them if they fired one of the 2 female coaches in the NBA. The rumor that she was a vivek plant didn't help her and that she was not liked by all. Not a good thing if the kings are keeping her on just to avoid bad pub.

Id rather have vlade blow everyone out and leave it completely up to Joerger. I don't want the FO forcing anyone on our new coach.

Well since they both said that contact didn't occur until Saturday, lets not find out. :)

Seriously though. I hope don't hear anything more on this. Don't want any drama.

Joerger: Trust is built on the defensive end of the floor. Chemistry is built on the defensive end of the floor.

Joerger: I can’t say we’ll play one style (or another). Need to wait and see what the personnel is.

As we all breathe a sigh of relief. This is what I expected from Karl. I'm in love which I presume indicates I have switched my gender preference.

I don't know how many boxes you have but at a certain point you leave the game to the talent on the court. He's got enough of my boxes ticked. Now unleash the hounds and work their arses off on the defense end. Other than the normal moaning and groaning, this will be fine or so it seems. This is where Cuz can be an on the court leader. If Cuz works hard, no one else has an excuse. Somebody send Cuz that Kareem quote from "Airplane."

I just watched a few videos from a 15 years ago or more and those guys routinely made passes most people can't do. I'm not sure our team, with or without Rondo, can do that but it certainly can be an ally oop dunkathon. Phi Slamma Jamma NBA style.

You seriously think if there had been some irregularity it would have been brought to light during the press conference?

Not liked by all is, from rumbles I've heard, possibly code for Chad Iske and John Welch.

Haha no, but people slip up.

Lowe just had Kevin Arnovitz on, who has interviewed Joeger in the past, to talk about Joeger, Grizz n Kings. Lowe also put forth that sort of questioning and Arnovitz felt there was probably conversation but nothing uncouth or illegal. The problem isn't so much that both sides knew of the possibility, but how such knowledge was done. The Jason Kidd situation was very messy and I don't think there was any league punishment for it. I imagine it is different, like Brick said.

But I'm a Kings fan, so I expect doom by default.

I was actually shocked - but decided to contain it to myself - that Memphis didn't not fire Joerger and instead extract picks from us. But I'm guessing we don't have much to give so they figure why bother? But something similar to Rivers and the Celtics.

A small town Minnesota guy. He's my type of guy. When raised in a small town with the weather the way it is, there is no time for bullcrap. You have to be tough as it is cold where he is from and you have to be giving because darn near everyone around you is giving. You are giving because that's how you stay alive or at the least, get your car out of the ditch. This is no joke.

I hope this is not the reason Nancy stays on. Whether a person is a good coach should have zero connection to their sex.

And did you notice that -- implicit in his answer -- was the idea that we WILL be having some changes in personnel?
Earlier in the presser he mentioned guys possibly opting out (Seth & Acy already have - Butler and Anderson could if they wanted to) and with Rondo a free agent there are already decisions that have to be made.

He also deferred to Vlade in terms of free agency, the draft and trades. I'm guessing Joerger will have key input but I doubt he's already got it in his mind how he wants the roster to be reshaped.

He said he got the call about being fired at 8:30 Saturday morning, if I recall. Vlade said Joerger's agent called him Saturday morning, but remember there is a 2 hour time difference between Memphis and Sacramento. Sounds like his agent was just acting quickly on what he knew of his client's interests, once the firing had been done.
