Another shrewd move by Vlade was not having to give up a draft pick(s) to get Joerger.

Vlade had asked for permission to discuss the job with Joerger and he would have had to give Memphis a 2nd round pick or more to sign away Joerger.

But, Vlade was patient and waited and Memphis flinched first.

Memphis panicked and couldn't wait for the two teams to come to an agreement on compensation for the head coach. Memphis got scared that a potential coach they wanted would be off the market if they waited to come to an agreement with the Kings and Memphis flinched first and fired Joerger.

Thus, saving Vlade and the Kings a draft pick(s).

NEVER PLAY POKER WITH VLADE, MY FRIENDS!
Fun but who made this up?

I'll go on record saying that I'm "cautiously optimistic" about this hire (an old Garry St. Jean saying). I'm not at all down on it, just in a wait and see pattern.

I'm not worried about Joerger getting along with Cousins, as that aspect has been grossly exaggerated, but I do have a bit of concern with the events that led up to him leaving Memphis. I don't pretend to know anything about the Grizzlies dysfunction in the FO and whether the blame was solely on them or not. I just know that it's unusual for good young coaches to be dismissed in this manner. Hopefully, for our sake, it is another Mike Malone situation.

Again, I'm optimistic that this will work out for the best -- but I'm also going to remain cautious because -- well -- I've been a Kingsfan for 31 years. Enough said.

You need to read up a bit. Substitute PDA for Chris Wallace and Vivek for the Grizzlies owner and you'll see it was pretty much another Mike Malone situation. The big difference now? PDA is gone, we have Vlade and our owner has given up trying to micromanage everything.

He was under paid and was'nt allowed to run his system. I've been lurking around Grizzlies forums and subreddit and they genuinely seem surprised that they lost Joeger, and from thw videos I've seen on here he's a players coach who worked his way to his position.

From what I've read Pera is worse than Vivek, who genuinely cares about the team, Pera on the other hand lets his lawyers do most of the business through the GM and coach.

I'll take the owner who cares any day.

Speaking of Adelman, how many of you remember the feeling that there was a positive shift in the attitude of the whole organization when he was brought on board? How many are getting that similar feeling now? Interesting to see what happens with personnel this summer, and hopefully brings about that winning atmosphere tipping point.
I started to get that feeling as soon as it was announced that Vlade had joined the front office. Today, I find myself damned near giddy. :p

Vlade
Catanella
Joerger

We'll see how this plays out over next season but on paper I love this dynamic.
Agreed. On paper it looks very strong. I'm going to put aside my reservations re certain elements of DJs time at MEM as I'd like to think Vlade didn't hire him if he felt he couldn't operate at a hire level with him. I look forward to a great offense and more so a solid defense. Further, If there's one thing DJ can do dam well, its draw up a timeout play which will be very handy. Onwards and upwards

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--dave-joerger-agrees-in-principle-to-coach-kings-184050746.html

"After Joerger was let go by Memphis, the teams no longer had to concern themselves with working out a draft-compensation agreement, and the framework of a potential deal started to take shape immediately, league sources said."

Another week of negotiating with Memphis and Memphis probably would of had this years 2nd round pick and maybe next years 2nd round pick for allowing Joerger out of his contract to join the Kings.

VLADE IS THE MAN!!!

Not to nit pic, but we don't have a 2nd round pick next year. Actually, we don't have our own 2nd round pick this year, we have the Spur's.

I just listened to Matt Hasseltine, the announcer for the Grizz on Grants show. Everything he said was positive. When asked if he had anything negative to say at all, he said that yeah, Joerger whipped his butt in tennis every time he played him. He said that management wanted Joerger out, and Joerget wanted out, so from that perspective, it's a win/win for both sides. Apparently the owner, Pera tried to fire, or actually did fire Joerger a couple of years ago when Hollins was fired, but then rehired him. So Joerger has never been a favorite of Pera"s from the beginning. Joerger was promoted to coach by Levin. Then Levin was fired and Wallace, who used to be the GM was brought back as GM. Wallace didn't hire Joerger (sound familiar), and wanted to put his own man in place.

In short, the handwriting was on the wall for some time. When Joerger went and asked for a raise and an extension, and had his request denied, he then asked if he could talk to the Kings about their coaching job. At that point, they parted company.
