You Were Wrong. Big Time.

I used to post on this site all the time in the early to mid 2000s. I've been a loyal lurker for the past ten years, and I've really enjoyed watching this forum develop and evolve in that time.

One thing I've noticed--and this is likely a function of the Kings doing very little in the way of winning over the last ten years--is that a lot of posters on this site are completely unwilling to budge on certain positions, and too often become sanctimonious, sarcastic, and turn completely defensive when their opinion is under fire.

That said, I find that one of the hardest things for a human to do is to admit that they're wrong. So I thought this might be a fun little exercise:

Would anyone here be willing to share what they were MOST wrong about regarding this team at any point in your time as a fan? Maybe a free agent signing that didn't pan out. A free agent signing that we should have made (but you're glad we didn't). Maybe you thought we should have drafted X instead of Y. Was there a coach who you just "knew" was going to take us on to fortune and glory, only to putter out?

I'm pleased to share my little gem: Trading Jason Williams for Mike Bibby. At the time, I liked the flash and excitement, more than the "boring, slow paced" substance. I was still in my infancy as a fan. Obviously.

So yeah, I'm interested to see if anyone else would be willing to swallow a little pride and admit that they were wrong about something Kings-related?

*Before you respond, please note that my experience above was the first and only time I've ever made a mistake in my judgement of this squad. I've been a regular NBA Carnac ever since ;) Anyways, Hi to anyone who remembers me, good to "see" you all!

Haha, rad! I had a similar experience in 2000 when I wanted the Kings to draft Morris Peterson, and they came away with Hidayet Turkoglu. I remember shouting to my friends "Who the HE77 is Ingosac Murgalu!?!"

...well, it didn't take me long to find out.

To all the IT haters I know you are at least a little sour that he is an all star. As for myself I was right about Artest and wrong about Kevin Martin.

I really can't remember anything in the last couple of years...I've questioned the Kings' moves over and over again and rightfully so. I do however still think Rondo is leaving in the off season, I hope I'm wrong but that's what I've been saying from the beginning.

I wanted the Kings to draft Mudiay over Willie. I was wrong. I don't have any problem admitting so b/c I can live with 99% accuracy :) My initial impression of Willie was he stagnated in 3 years in Kentucky. His numbers flatlined. He was an old rookie. He was invisible in the tourney games.

I pre-judged based on the dread locks and the tattoos. I thought he was a "get paid and party" kind of guy. Then when his pre-draft combine numbers came in off the charts and I heard him speak I realized I was too hasty in my analysis. He's an introspective and intelligent guy who wants to be great. Kentucky suppressed his skill level b/c of the talent surrounding him he was not asked to do too much just fit in.

Also he's not awkward lanky. He's smooth lanky if that makes sense. The number one predictor when I scout collegiate is reaction time or "first to the ball wins" and I forgot (made mistake) to apply that assessment tool to Willie. He's a first to the ball kind of guy.

While I believe that I was one of the first posters on here to bring up Tyreke as a potential draft target....

.... I also wanted us to draft Johnny Flynn. Glad I wasn't GM. (Not that Reke ever amounted to much after his ROY campaign).

Oh, I also wanted to fire RA! Sorry, I was like. ... 15 at the time!

I wanted Drummond in 2012 draft, but when we selected Robison I thought it was a decent pick.
I thought Jimmer was going to be a decent role player.
Thought Stauskas would at least be able to score.
Thought Causewell would be better than he was, and got excited about the 4 first round picks pre draft, should have known better.
Though St. Jean was doing an ok job.

Not much else besides maybe guessing for fun who would have a good or bad game.

1. I thought Geoff Petrie knew what he was doing. After the Hickson trade is when I realized how freaking wrong I was.

2. Paul Westphal would be a good experienced coach for the team.

3. Rondo would not be as good as he is, though I still think he is not the ideal fit.

4. Nik Stauskas would be a good player in the NBA, actually I still think that but it's going to take much longer than I thought.

5. Tyreke would be a star. (This after his rookie year convinced me I was wrong in thinking he was a selfish, low bbIQ, overrated player from his play at Memphis).

6. Karl would be better than this.

Yeah me too but I wanted Quintin Richardson . That is just one time , out of many, that I have been wrong. Too many times to count.

The only major one I can think of is Rondo. I've never been a big fan of his, and didn't think he would be as good as he's turned out to be. Other players that I didn't necessarily want as my first choice, but thought they would be better than they turned out to be, are Jimmer and Thomas Robinson. Unci03 and I had a lot of discussions about Robinson, and I was literally trying to talk myself into liking him. I learned a listen on that one. Listen to your gut. I think I've been right more than I've been wrong, but when your dealing with human beings, nothing is written in stone.

I liked Klay Thompson at Washington, but never in a million years did I think he would be this good. If I were a GM, my biggest mistake would have been not drafting Drummond when I had the chance. But I stand by my reasons at the time, even though they turned out to be wrong. I hated the hiring of Westphal at the time and said so. I also was one of the first to tout Tyreke Evans as our pick. I was all over Cousins from his first day at Kentucky, and I've loved WCS for the last three years. Most recently, I thought Stauskas was a good fit, and still think he was misused to some extent, but his biggest attribute coming in was his ability to shoot the ball, and he just didn't do it when he needed to. Jury is still out on him however.

I bought into the George Karl hype. Im so ashamed cause if I would have done my homework it would have been flaming obvious what was going to happen.

I also thought Rondo was going to be a big mistake.

Biggest Embarrasment?

I really thought Darco Millicic was going to be a stud.

Drummond vs Trob.

I wish there was more but they've made a lot of bad moves that you could see from a mile away.

Oh, I thought vivek would point this team in the right direction.

I was wrong about Tyreke Evans. Thought he was going to be a big time star. His type of talent is probably 10-15 years too late in terms of the current NBA rules. Would have been a star in the late 90's/early 2000's.

I thought after 10 years and drafting a future HOF we'd be able to figure this out.

I thought Vivek was a saint and could do no wrong.

I thought we'd have some stability in FO and the coaching box by now.

I don't think Drummond vs. Thomas was very obvious at all. Drummond was very raw and the NBA had it's fair share of raw big men wasted on lottery picks leading up to that year. Thomas seemed like a sure thing coming out of college. He was considered one of the most NBA ready players in the draft and I was glad we picked him.

Then I saw him on the court for the first time in preseason and I was like uh oh....this guy is very small, despite what his stats say. I thought ok well maybe he's undersized but that wont matter as much when we see his NBA ready skills. That was another uh oh because it's been a few years and we've still yet to see any discernible skills from him outside of rebounding and hustle.

I thought Karl could get the Kings into the Playoffs THIS Year. It is looking unlikely:(

Rondo's injury concerned me, but he has bounced back.

I did think Rondo was a better defender than he is.

You know I always figured Tyreke would be a King for life and develop a nice jump shot.

I thought Jimmer and Stauskas would be premier NBA shooters!

The Maloofs seemed like such smart businessmen in the early days they owned the Kings.....what could go wrong???

Lastly I thought Mike Malone was here to stay and had bought into his defense first philosophy. When Brendan Malone left I should have got a clue:(

I am ashamed to admit it, but I was secretly excited when they drafted Jimmer and thought he would be great. After a few games, I realized I had never been more wrong!

I was excited by his mix tape and the idea of him, then watched him in Summer League not be able to dribble....doh.
