After this mental breakdown, the kings come out even more focus and beat GS this saturday to get that 8th spot! Surprisingly we have never been 100% healthy when playing the warriors. Hopefully casspi and Willie recover enough to play.
We desperately need WCS for his Defense and transition/lob game against the W's. He matches up EXCELLENT against them on defense AND offense.

Keep in mind we're talking about a player who was the fastest end to end runner at the NBA draft combine. Not the fastest big man. THE FASTEST PLAYER.

Yeah I wasn't sure why Acy wasn't in the game when the Warriors went on their run. The paint was finally open for them and it caused their shooters to get hot, then the 3's came. I thought that was a blunder on Karl. Cousins really needs to pay attention to his fouls in the game because that killed us as well.

With the Warriors receiving all the headlines, people are sleeping really hard on the Spurs. Look af what they did with their team AND the style of ball they are playing. They have been just as impressive as the Warriors and they slowed their pace down and have been playing big all year long. They didn't fall into the trap the rest of the league fell for this season. They didn't try to go small as well and match what the Warriors do.
This is why I respect the Spurs so god damn much. The funny thing is, everything they do makes perfect sense, and it seems so easy to make those decisions. If only Vivek had come from that organization. Well, Vlade and Pop are close, so there's that.

And it also just proves, any style of offense can win, but you must have great defense. And obsessing over a style is the exact wrong way to go, unless you're coaching middle school girls. You build with what you have!!

Hats off to Quincy Acy for stepping his game up. He straight up abused Larry Nance Jr. last night and the announcers were acting like he's going to be the best young guy the Lakers have.

The guy used to be good for one highlight dunk. One highlight block and one highlight yell per game.

He's still good for all those things but now he's a pretty solid all around player who can now actually play the pick and roll, defend, shoot and do the little things out there that don't end up on the stat sheet, but help your team win immensely.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but this morning on 1140 a clip was played of Kobe mentioning how he told DMC how good he was playing, but not anywhere near his potential every night. That speaks volumes. Does someone have that quote?

Normally, I'm happy for the Kings to get a win, even an ugly one. But this one was a major embarrassment, and on national TV no-less. And with our gym packed with Laker fans! Anytime the offense comes as easily as it did for us in the first half without having to fight for it defensively, it sets an unsustainable tone in which big leads are inevitably lost. Thus when the young Lakers started hitting their shots in the 2nd half, and with Cuz out of the game with foul trouble, we looked liked a team that didn't deserve to win. This was just a major embarrassment, and while we did get the win, we left a pile of ___ on the court for everyone to see.

I feel like that's taking things, like, three steps too far. I'm not going to tell anybody that they should be "happy" about the win, or that they shouldn't feel "embarrassed." But, a "major" embarrassment? No, a "major" embarrassment would have been if we had actually lost the game. A game where our All-Star looked good, even while in foul trouble, and the world got to watch us win does not rise to the level of "major" embarrassment, blown lead notwithstanding.

Nobody suffered a major injury, our mercurial star kept his composure, and impressed the national heads (he was the only guy in the game they would occasionally pause in their praise of Kobe Bryant to compliment), and we won a high profile game. Not even close to qualifying as a "major" embarrassment.

Well I was at the game and yes I was very embarrassed, face palm after face palm as I sat and watched the lead disappear, watch open 3 after open 3 by the lakers, the ball just being drove up the middle of the court
I was embassased by our team's defense, so tired of seeing the laker fans taking over OUR HOUSE, I Yelled and screamed and rang my cowbell, but could not drown out the laker fans

Thank you Boogie for standing up and saying ENOUGH

Thank you Rondo for playing hard, and just getting Collison off the floor

Thank you Kings for NOT making me walk out of that gym having to listen to all those Laker fans
Wooping it up after a miracle come from behind ***kicking win

I agree with Boogie I feel better about the dallas Loss than the Win Last night

I wasn't embarrassed, but I would have been happier with a blowout win. There's something about these TNT games. This game played out almost exactly like the Knicks game.

Gotta give some props to Quincy. Since the Warriors game, he's had 3 games where he's basically significant role minutes. Here are his averages in those games:

21 MPG, 12.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.6 BPG, 1.3 SPG, 78% FG, and a +18

Small sample size and all that nonsense, but he's been having an impact for sure when he gets some run.
Agreed. He had the second highest +/- last night after Cousins.

Interview is on now. Quick warning for anyone not familiar with Dan LeBatard's ouevre: he's not a "hardcore" sports guy, and his interviews tend to be irreverent (which a large part of why I enjoy listening to him so much). Don't expect it to be an in-depth conversation about the Kings.

Can't believe he left Ken Griffey off his ballot.

Nitpick: LeBatard doesn't actually have a ballot anymore. He was stripped of it by the BBWAA, after that Deadspin controversy. He's just trolling people about that.

Karl interview was brief; talked (slightly) more about the Kings than I expected. Praised Cousins, says that the relationship has slowly improved since the summer.

So I was at the game last night. I'll bullet out my thoughts here.

  • First 2.5 quarters were a mixture of great passing and smooth offense along with terrible defense by the Lakers. We really should have been up by more than 30
  • Roy Hibbert is awful. Like really bad. I'm not sure he even has a place in the league anymore
  • After Karl's great coaching in the Mavs game, this was a step back. Cousins should not have been in the game with <2:00 min in the half and up 20. That sticky tack 3rd foul really dictated the 2nd half.
  • Anderson. Why? He does nothing, and really doesn't play that good of defense. He had a really nifty no look pass to the Lakers at one point though.
  • When Cuz went out with foul 5 and then Rudy missed those 2 free throws you could see some strife on the players faces and body language.
  • Something was wrong with DC. He was tentative, not taking open shots. He sorta half drove to the basket and he played absolutely no defense. Karl pulled him, but about 5 minutes too late.
  • Lakers guards are going to be really really good. They are fast, quick and have sic handles.
  • That 5th foul on Cuz perpetuated the bad defense in the 4th. They rim ran through our bad perimeter defense into no rim D because Cuz couldn't really defend there. WCS would have made this a 10-15 point win even with the 2nd half let down.
  • Very happy to see Cousins on the block a lot more. I think Brusk tweeted he notices a few new sets. I hoe Karl is recognizing things and making changes. Maybe he just Changes slowly because he wants to see a large sample size of something. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt that is the case.
  • Cousins is officially SHAQ of the new NBA. He is allowed to get beat up by the opposing Defense with no would calls. Bass had two forearms in his back the entire 4th. They were holding, shoving, pushing. It's really amazing he doesn't punch people. I don't think he gets enough credit for keeping his temper with how teams go at him.
  • Lakers had ZERO team fouls until halfway through the 4th. I watched the game, there were not zero fouls.
  • That was a GODDAMN Lakers home game. I'd say 60-70% of the crowd was Lakers fans. How many STH sold online? What could have gotten for my tickets?
Overall fun night. First game I went to this year and it was a doozy. My son lost his voice trying to yell over the Laker fans. I may need some heart medicine this season if we keep having games like this.

It would have been a blowout if Cuz didn't get into foul trouble. However, Cuz looks real loose and playing real well since Karl got T'd up.

Man Curry was pissing me off so much during the game. There was about 6 possessions in a row where he single handedly screwed up on defense or offense (he got his ankles broke two possessions in a row) and let the Lakers come back.

Bmac got a perfect pass from Cuz at the wing and didn't shoot a wide open three. He ended up driving to the rim and ended up traveling....

We really need WCS back for defense and Caspi for some 3 point shooting with the Gay/Caspi mismatch on offense.

I don't know why, but the Kings keep taking their foot off the accelerator when in the lead.

Here's to a season of some more Cardiac Kings!

Not to nit pick, since we won, but I thought Coach should have made some defensive switches on the last play of the game. That is something GK really needs to work on in key situations in games.

But, DMC with his gimpy ankle and 5 fouls should have been sub'd for Koufos.

If we go into OT and Cuz fouled out in regulation, we would have been screwed.

I thought the same thing, but I would imagine Cuz told him "not happening".

If we lose in regulation with Cousins on the bench, the "screw" would have been greater.

But consider the upside for me. I don't mind the Laker team near as much as the Laker fans at our home games. So last night our poor lay in the second half got the Lakers fans present to get all excited only to be let down at the end. There are better ways but I've sat with that bunch too many times in the past. So nyah, nyah, nyah.

nbaonespn Boogie's last 4 games:
29 Pts, 10 Reb
35 Pts, 17 Reb
33 Pts, 19 Reb
32 Pts, 9 Reb

Damn. Keep it up young man!
It's the last three that matter to me. The last three games Cuz has acted like a leader on the floor. While the numbers are important, his demeanor is also important. At least important to me. For the last five years I've let his numbers blind me to his other antics, some of which were hurting the team. The last three games he's been superb in that area. So for now, he's off my S--T list and back on my potential HOH list, which is where he should be. Just keep it up big guy.
