Kings fans watching a Kings game this year:

And yet, here we are:

And so...onward!

Boxscore

Stats: 36min 18pts (8-16, 1-6, 1-3) 4reb 6ast 0stl 1blk 0TO
Summary:a good game? I don't know. Couldn't hit his threes or FTs or stop Kobe. But he moved the ball and joined the passing fun.

Gay ( B ) -- this was a bit of a donut game for Rudy offensively -- he came out hitting his early shots before picking up second foul as Kobe started getting calls. And he responded nicely to a Kobe dunk late in the half with a +1 of his own. But after a nice tough contested shot to begin the 3rd, he largely ghosted for a long spell as well fell apart, again failing to step up with Cuz out, and in fact bricking a pair of FTs as the Lakers pushed seemed to accelerate our decline. But he was back for the stretch, hit a really tough shot late in the 4th (too tough, it was a bad shot hit on pure talent), and his dunk on the break from Rondo with 3 minutes left got us the lead back (briefly -- we didn't win this until the final minute). But where Rudy deserves real credit in this one was as joining and being a major part of our passing attack. And our three best guys were all keys to that, as Rondo (12) Cuz(7) and Rudy (6) combined for 25 assists among them. Several of Rudy's were very clear and heads up too, as a nice little give and go with Cuz in the paint, or a sequence with Ben out in the open court. Overall this wasn't a spectacular game -- Cuz and Rondo were the key guys, and you could feel it when they returned in the game to steady us in the 4th. But Rudy was a solid #3 most of the way, and it was our guards getting crushed that hurt us more than anything Rudy did.

Stats:25min 18pts (8-9, 0-0, 2-3) 4reb 0ast 1stl 2blk 0TO
Summary: quite possibly his career best streak here. Brought big energy, big blocks, and using Cuz and Rondo to get open for dunk after dunk.

Acy ( A+ ) -- energy and big dunks right at the rim to start things. A couple of huge athletic blocks around the rim, one in the final minute of the half. Mistake to being the 2nd half, losing Nance Jr. and then fouling him on a dunk for a +1. But just kept on cutting and dunking, reveling in our passing game as the forgotten 5th man/finisher. Brought back for the final minutes after Karl had explored every possible smallball combination, and they had all collectively failed him. Really you could ask no more here. I've may never have given back to back A+s to somebody before, but this was 1pt off his career high in points, and right there with his career best game. As we've ramped up our energy since the New Year, Acy has been right at the heart of it. Wish we had a guard with the same spunk.

Stats: 32min 29pts (8-12, 2-3, 11-13) 10reb 7ast 1stl 0blk 3TO
Summary: continued huge play that could get him Player of the Week with a good one vs. the Warriors. funny hearing national announcers finally see him.

Cousins ( ) -- here, I'm tired of being late on these, so I'll let the not-so jaded as we around here describe just how good Cousins is:

Stats: 25min 16pts (7-15, 1-5, 1-3) 4reb 1ast 1stl 0blk 3TO
Summary:started this game off great in a high energy environment with our season best passing. Then guys started lighting him up and he quit hitting.

McLemore ( ) --

Stats: 36min 9pts (4-10, 0-1, 1-2) 6reb 12ast 4stl 1blk 3TO
Summary: difference in PG play was stark in this one. Found Acy again and again slipping to the hoop. May have saved game with a wraparound poke steal.

Rondo ( ) --

Bench

Stats: 13min 0pts (0-0, 0-0, 0-0) 2reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Anderson ( C ) -- well over the minutes limit so has to get some grade, but even by James Anderson standards this was a pretty empty effort. Out there just to but time, as often as not with Karl playing him in smallball fashion behind Rudy.

Stats: 20min 14pts (7-9, 0-0, 0-0) 2reb 0ast 0stl 1blk 0TO
Koufos ( B- ) -- played a strong first half hanging around the hoop and scoring easily, was less effective after half, and his inability to shut down the boards became a much bigger issue

Stats: 27min 11pts (4-9, 1-4, 2-3) 2reb 3ast 2stl 0blk 1TO
Belinelli ( C ) -- there was little to see here, no last minute heroics, no particular efficiency, and one of our guards who got roasted by the Lakers' kids on defense. But he was also one of our two guards -- championship experienced guards not surprisingly -- who hung in there as a stabilizing factor after so many others just quit playing.

Stats: 18min 3pts (1-3, 1-1, 0-0) 2reb 2ast 0stl 0blk 3TO
Collison ( F ) -- could there have been some hangover from the late minutes in Dallas? Or even some loss of confidence by Karl? Even in our good first half DC was notably absent, one of the few guys doing nothing but just being carried along by our general superiority that half. But when entrusted to take care of a huge lead after half the full depth of his crappy night showed itself, and he was remarkably incompetent. Struggled to bring the ball up the floor, barely attacked, turned it over, and most of all combined with Curry to get absolutely destroyed on defense where the Lakers guards looked like they were playing 5 on 3 so easily were they blasting pas our perimeter pylons. One of the performances here that helped lose a 27pt 3rd quarter lead, and nearly the game.

Stats: 10min 0pts (0-2, 0-1, 0-0) 0reb 0ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Curry ( F ) -- huge comedown from an effort in Dallas where Curry won the "5th guy" minutes with tough scrappy defense. This time Karl turned to him again for the same thing, and he got killed. Really looking out of his league as the young Lakers guards scored nearly every time down the floor. Was doing nothing on the other end either, and looked rattled. By the Lakers. After scrapping vs. the Mavs in Dallas? Anyway, he and Collison were an absolute disaster in their second half minutes.

I'm dreading the GS game. If Casspi is still out (doesn't sound good with a stiff neck and possible MRI), that's most of our three point shooting sitting on the bench against the WARRIORS. It will get ugly.

I really hope this team can get that 8th seed! I mean honestly i'll be just as happy even if we make it next year instead, but I just want one more playoff series in Arco Arena!! That to me would make all this crap we as Kings fans have been through go slightly out the window lol

Let's just be thankful we're not resetting our momentum with a terrible loss here. We really need every game, especially games vs the Lakers, if we're gonna get to the playoffs.

Not sure why people are tripping over the Warriors game.

They are 99 percent likely to beat us. They are also 99 percent likely going to beat all of the teams we are competing with for those last playoff berths. So... It is basically moot.

So.... We'll be 1 game back.

Playoffs are still very doable. We've been looking better lately too.

Besides that last OT, and the 3rd/4th quarters tonight of course!

Even better, after this weekend, the Warriors still have one more game against the Nuggets, two more games against the Jazz, two more games against the Timberwolves, three more games against the Trailblazers, and no more games against us.

Gotta give some props to Quincy. Since the Warriors game, he's had 3 games where he's basically significant role minutes. Here are his averages in those games:

21 MPG, 12.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.6 BPG, 1.3 SPG, 78% FG, and a +18

Small sample size and all that nonsense, but he's been having an impact for sure when he gets some run.

Quincy Acy defense in crunch time was AMAZING he contested numerous times. without fouling, he drove Randle into Cousins (great play by Cuz) for a offensive foul and had a massive block and rebound. Cousins last 4 games unreal but we don't win that game without Goatcy his last two games have been unreal i love that guy. Karl ****ed up not playing him 30mins against Dallas where he was having his best game of the year. Acy is one of those scrubs who has a x factor with his ability to spark a team with a single play.

The big problem we have is aside from Cuz/Acy/Wcs no one else can defend and they are all bigs. What a game great excitement. Darren needs to stop taking whatever drugs Sessions was on.

Why does it seem like we play the Warriors every week?
Because we have?

Collison has straight up been killing the Kings on the floor the past 3 or so games.
Almost singlehandedly is letting the other teams back in it by doing NOTHING when he controls the ball in the 2nd half.

It's not about his stats - it's about his (lack of good) impact on the floor.

What? No way. At least with the Warriors, if we fall behind by 20, we can make it a game again with our offense before we lose. The Spurs will blow us out from start to finish.
With the Warriors receiving all the headlines, people are sleeping really hard on the Spurs. Look af what they did with their team AND the style of ball they are playing. They have been just as impressive as the Warriors and they slowed their pace down and have been playing big all year long. They didn't fall into the trap the rest of the league fell for this season. They didn't try to go small as well and match what the Warriors do.
