Kings and free agency - part 2

#62
How did we give up "all our future assets"? We got rid of deadweight PFs and Stauskas. The 2018 pick is protected and then Sixers can swap spots on 2 others....why are you all saying asset? Lol so confused. It's one pick and its protected. We should be planning to make the playoffs every year and in that case Sixers will be picking 15th and later.
I'll clarify a bit to yours. They only get 1 year for the option to swap. If our pick is in the top 10 this year, they'll have an option to swap for this year only.

However, if we lose our pick to the Bulls this year, Philadepliha will get the option to swap in 2017 instead.

But they can't pick BOTH years if we retain our pick this year, 2016.

I do find it ironic that we have to give up all our future assets to eliminate previous bad contracts. Now were going to use said CAP space on another outrageous overpay.
This was exactly my concern. Now that we have more money doesn't mean we get more free agents, it just means we end up paying more for potentially the same ones. They see how much money we have and they want it.

Wesley Matthews with his injury is probably worth around $10 million a year, in this market perhaps $12 million, and because we are the Kings and it's what he originally asked for let's call it $15 million even though most people thought that was ridiculous. Anything over that and I'll pass and move on to the second and third tier free agents.

Let's slightly overpay Kanter, Stuckey, Williams, Lopez, and Joseph or some combination of that. Let's really get this roster overhaul going then.

Should add that Mavs are optimistic that Wesley Matthews will wait at least a couple of days. He wants to be here with Jordan/Parsons.
I really don't see the "lure" in Dallas. He would get to play with Chandler Parsons who is nothing more than a good SF (Rudy is better IMO and provides more star level play), and Deandre Jordan which we all know is below Boogie. An aging Dirk....like who would want to play here and expect to win a chip?

My concern is the strong impression I got from Dave yesterday that Vivek/Vlade and Karl are not on the same page, or really even close and the strong suggestion of continued dysfunction in our FO.

Are we even going to be able to make presentations to Rondo/Matthews on a united front? Anyone know if Cuz and Karl are even in town to help recruit? Looking around the league we're seeing head coaches and star players showing up at these presentations.

Clarification: Tim McMahon covers the Mavs for ESPN.

From all indications, it hasn't always worked out well. (Kobe immediately comes to mind...)

Kobe's the only instance it hasn't looked good, and that's Kobe being Kobe and thinking he's still playing at the level of an all-time great.

In SA, Parker/Duncan/Pop show up together.

In Pho with LMA, Horny/Bledsoe/Knight/Chandler showed up.

Dallas had Carlisle/Dirk/Parsons meeting with Jordan.

How does showing up on a united front hurt, in basketball or in business in general?

Kobe is a 37 year old in his last legs. You would hope your 24 year old star is going to help with the pitch. That doesnt seem to be the case and theres very likely a rift between FO and coach.

So we are likely at Cuz doesnt trust our FO, has rift with Karl. FO has rift with Karl.

That team without Monta could actually use Rondo dominating the ball.

It feels like Karl came to them with the list of players, he coached in Denver, and Vlade decided, that he's not going after any of those.

So, the max is about 80 over 4 years with the raises ... which is what Orlando offered Milsap? Right?
No, Millsap is in 7-9 years of experience bracket, while Wes is still in the same bracket as RFAs.

If we don't get matthews plan B needs to be fill the bench and stay away from rondo. Stay away.

Sign Brewer 6mill
Sign L.Will 11mill
Sign. Koufos 7mill (or Biyombo)

That is a solid bench no doubt we would be better than Dallas/NO

Uh oh.. KingsFans.com meltdown coming in 3...2...1...

I think it would be a good signing.. He's not the type of player that would be affected by this. He's a 3pt threat, not an athletic big man or high flyer.

The only thing that worries me is how good he will be defensively, but even if he is average it will be an upgrade over McLemore.

Lou Will 11 mil? No thanks. Rather get Belinelli for cheaper. Lou Williams is nothing special.

If Monta got 11mill, I'd think that Lou would come in at around 8/9. Brewer prob gets 7/8. Koufus is getting 10/11 (Damn Baynes got 3/20!!)

But maybe we can upgrade PG from DC to Lawson

Everyone is saying Denver wants to replace Lawson with Mudiay

Denver can save some bucks and Start DC until Rookie is ready and still have DC as a backup

With Matthews as an uprade and Lawson an upgrade

Lawson, Matthews, Gay, WCS, Big Cuz WootWoot

Sign Casspi, ACY, another Big

Cuz, WCS also at 5.Moreland
WCS, Gay also at 4,Acy, Big Euro(min)
Gay, Casspi, Dwill
Wes, Ben
Lawson, RayMac

So 15m for Wes, 7mil upgrade Lawson, 4mil and Room Exception Casspi,Dwill, Vet Min Acy, Big Euro

One hell of a starting 5, not sure about bench

No need for an extravagant sales pitch to recruit him. Once Matthews see's that Sacramento has the highest percentage of Applebees per square mile, it'll be a done deal.

Something common in this FA recruitment meetings is the head coach there selling to the FA how he plans to use him and selling the upside of playing for him.

Where's Karl? I honestly have no idea how if Karl was working closely with Vlade that he wouldn't be at these meetings with Matthews/Rondo. Vlade can't speak for Karl on how Karl's going to use these players. Well he could but it's never the same as talking face to face with the coach.

Whether it's Pop, Carlisle, Horny, Gentry, Scott, Vogel, head coaches are at these meetings. Actually, what we're seeing across the board for the most part is owner/GM/Head coach all at these meetings.

That's not the fear. The fear is if we make as good a case as possible on a united front, the asking price might not be as high. Give off the impression we're not on the same page and our head coach/Cuz don't even care enough to show up, then the attitude can quickly change to "you're going to have to pay me more to come into this mess".

Do we know that Karl is not attending the free agent meetings? I haven't read that anywhere, but I could have missed it.
