Kings trade JT, Nik and Landry to Sixers (renamed)

If Vlade and Co are comfortable enough making Rondo our top target and want him as our PG, 10M/Y isn't too much. It's our cap space this year but next year with the huge cap boost, 10M/Y is peanuts. Offer it, say 3/30 and protect ourselves with a team option.

You can't make Rondo the priority, then haggle over a couple mil. I seriously question the fit but if Vlade/Karl are both on board with them, they must have a plan on how to use him. Freeing up cap room to get shooters to put next to him would require creating more cap space through trades/stretching Landry, things of that nature, or acquiring those players through trades. If the idea is for 10M we're going to get Rondo and a shooter to put next to him, that ain't happening.

Cousins deal is so amazingly cheap now compared to the rest of the NBA. Dan Fegan is a MORON. If he actually plays the next 3 years in Sac, wow what a steal he is. Best value in the NBA next to Curry's deal.

Tristan Thompson 80 mil hahhahaahhahahahahaahahahahahah

Nobody else in the league is giving Rondo 8, let alone 10. They Kings would be bidding against themselves. If Rondo wants to sign for 7.5 with a player option for 10 on the second year, it's not a great bet but fine. Giving him 10 on the first year because his agent is claiming that he's got an offer of 9.25 from another team and all things being equal he'd go there. Call his bluff.

Rondo is taking risk as well with this contract. That's why he wants 10 for this year. If he plays like crap again this year, he's playing for peanuts the rest of his career and his agents are trying to get a desprate team with a rookie front office to bid against itself.

If we whiff on Rondo, we will probably come away empty-handed. All those scrubs can get just as good a nickel/dime deal on a better team (any team but ours). There's this part in The Godfather where Sonny says to Vito "won't they take that as a sign of weakness". And Vito says "it IS a sign of weakness".

Hell, we're weak - we don't have a lot of plays here. I say give Rondo his effing money. It improves the team $10M worth. I like the idea of a 3/30 with protection for the team on the third year.

I thought the FO knew we would have to use all of our cap space on one player. Why is this a surprise to them?

No clue what we're thinking. If we wanted Rondo, should have been done at 12:01 a.m.

I'm not sure what this means .............. good or bad?

@CarmichaelDave so what are you upset about exactly...? The Calipari story was false so I assume you're just not a fan of signing Rondo?

I don't mind. Maybe they can make it $8-9M next season and team option next year for $11M or something like that.

Or maybe somehow we can do a S&T with Dallas and pay Rondo a little more money if we can jettison the Landry contract - and still have a few bucks left for Brewer.

How cheap do you all expect him to work realistically? He won't sign for embarrassing money.
If he didn't want embarrassing money be shouldn't have embarrassed himself, his team, and his coach. On a contract year.

If he hadn't, then the Kings would not even be in the conversation. It is only the fact that he embarrassed himself, the team, and his coach in a contract year - that he would contemplate playing for the Kings. A year ago he was saying "hell no" to the prospect.

I don't see a problem with paying Rondo, pissing about will make him feel "unwanted" and thats what these players want as we all know, they're babies.

we'll end up with nothing if we sit on the fence

Really no surprise that we are not in any of these rumors or players being signed. Not one player wants to play for us, Rondo included. The only difference is Rondo has no choice after his horrible year last year. However, some of these players are getting stupid amounts of money and a lot of them aren't worth it. Tristan Thompson 80 million+? Carroll? Even Brandon Knight signed what I believe to be too large of a contract for a player of his caliber. Not to mention Damian Lillard getting 120 million dollar extension for chucking shots. We will see how he responds without LA there... can he be "the man" because he is going to be paid like one.

I was absolutely against Rondo before I remembered we're the Kings. I'm not turning my nose up at someone who used to be an all star but hit a road block.

(or a cliff, who knows but thats the risk)

The amount of overpaying going on is far beyond what I imagined. I knew to expect that players weren't even going to look in our direction but damn, crap hurts to see us just sitting there with no serious talks going on.

Doesn't look like Phoenix is rebuilding (just signed Tyson Chandler for $52 mil/4 years). Hard to see them parting ways with Bledsoe.
I agree, but it still seems like a very odd situation over there. The pg shuffle they tried last year failed, simple as that. Now they're trying it again? Seems like they should have learned their lesson already. Regardless of who plays the 1 and who plays the 2, that's an awful lot of money to have invested in your guard positions. I predict they look to trade Bledsoe sometimes during the season when they figure out that they are making the same exact mistake.

Unless they are playing the Kings, I'm rooting for the Spurs to smack down the Warriors. That is a hell of a franchise over there.

I wish Vlade could snag some unknown junior exec from there (like the nerd in Moneyball). Those guys just really know what they are doing. And if you've ever been in San Antonio in summer you know that the place just sucks to high heaven with the sweat and Cicada bugs - so to make it a top NBA destination you gotta really have some black magic.
It is hot and humid, but I love the river walk...

Dave's tweeting has gotten kind of comical.
Sounds like he's upset that the Kings aren't budging at $10mill for Rondo? Who cares if we miss out on him. We can be in play for other guys. Not going to lie, I do feel bad for Dave a bit. He gets dumb questions thrown at him, and answers them for fans.
