One AND ONLY Cousins trade rumors thread

I have no doubt Vlade doesn't want to trade Cuz. That also in no way means Cuz isn't pushing behind the scenes for a move. We don't know if a trade demand has been made but if it does happen, we'd have to then see how Vlade responds to that.

I have not heard him say he didn't want to be traded this offseason.
He also hasn't said he doesn't want to wear purple leotards as the new alternate uniform...

At some point, you have to accept that our situation is in flux. As Jason Jones posted (and God how I hate to continue to quote him):

Don't think for a minute that Pete D'Alessandro no longer being w/ the team makes things fine. A lot of broken trust last season beyond him.

We have to undo a lot of the damage the gerbil (sorry again, Brickie, for doubting you) and Mullin did to this franchise. It's not gonna happen over night. If anyone can make it happen, though, it's Vlade Divac.

Yeah and I really don't like getting into a battle with an immature guy pushing for a trade. Vlade better get this team fixed asap

He must not be pushing very hard for us to come down unequivocally (unless you count Vlade's Michael Jordan reference as a quiver) time and time again. If he's pressing us, we don't appear to be feeling the pressure.

More likely the situation is his agents want us to fix things to their liking, or they want him gone to a better franchise. And any agent for a franchise big man who didn't want his guy to end up with the Lakers wouldn't be doing his job. The thing is agents don't have any direct power in the end. They can jump, scream, shout, threaten, and run up and down the street naked covered in lime green jello if they want, but unless the player they represent wants what they want, they are just puffing.

Problem is it says "beyond him"...this whole thing is screwed up...so hopefully Vlade can help fix this

Broken trust in that Cousins' camp was blamed for anti-Karl comments.
Broken trust in that Cousins' wasn't told of Malone's imminent firing.
Broken trust in a lot of stuff that spun outwards, inwards, around, etc.

We're already seeing a big change. Vivek deferring to Vlade in the Amick article is HUGE. Vlade making it adamantly clear repeatedly that Cousins is not on the block is pretty definitive.

Cousins wants honesty. He wants stability. He wants players around who will want to win as badly as he does. We're undoing things the best we can. I truly believe there are more reasons to believe things will work than there are reasons to cover your head to protect it from pieces of falling sky.

Pressure comes in varying levels though. You know that, it's why you've put so much stock in getting it right this coming season which I'd agree with. I'm assume Vlade is feeling some pressure. Could be Cuz's agents have said their client is unhappy and you've got one season until he asks out. Or if this off season doesn't go well, pressure will ramp up at the Feb deadline. Could be pressure from the Karl angle. Could be making it known Cuz is already eyeing up potential destinations and his agents making clear this is your last chance.

Could be a number of things but this is usually how it starts, through agents. It doesn't usually start with a player flat out demanding a trade out of nowhere. We've seen this dance before. Agents lay the groundwork and at a certain point, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, there's the trade demand.

Still doesn't address the issue reported there that Cousins camp is pushing for a trade to LA
of course "cousins camp" wants him in LA. they're a huge market with tremendous earning potential for a superstar entering his prime, they're a franchise with a storied history of winning teams anchored by big men, and their roster is home to a massive talent vacuum right now. it must sound like a perfect fit to cousins' agent, at the very least. the issue is whether or not demarcus agrees with his camp's desire to demand a trade, and to steer that trade specifically to LA. we know big cuz prefers a low-key environment, and that he doesn't look favorably on other nba players who project what he deems to be a false personality via glitzy endorsements (ex: blake griffin, chris paul). it's also not clear that the lakers represent a faster track to the playoffs. i'm one who believes that cousins isn't far away from a trade demand, but i'm not buying any narrative that claims he's prepared to push kings management for a trade to the lakers...

Sources: George Karl pushing for Kings to trade DeMarcus Cousins
By Adrian Wojnarowski 9 minutes ago

Despite Sacramento Kings management's public insistence that DeMarcus Cousins is unavailable in deals, coach George Karl's intense desire to trade the All-Star center has made it increasingly unlikely this coach-star partnership can peacefully co-exist next season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Karl has been recruiting Kings vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac and multiple players on the Kings' roster to unite with him in making the case to owner Vivek Ranadive that Cousins needs to be traded, league sources said.

I have to hope this is PDA still spoon feeding Woj info. Because if there's any truth to it then my god what a complete mess.

This is the type of thing which can cause Cuz to demand a trade. I had a fear for awhile that despite last season, and with the hope around Vlade, it's the Karl hire which could put a nail in the coffin.

Given their apparent rocky relationship, Cuz/Karl, this certainly doesn't help. That it's Woj, it certainly raises my eyebrows.

Say what you want but there's smoke here. Something's happening.

Fire Karl's ***** ass I told you guys firing Malone will be the biggest mistake this franchise has made. If this fool succeds in pissing DMC off we would have lost cousins for nothing.

If I'm Vlade, I sit down with DMC tomorrow and tell him he's not gettinng traded. Then I go tell Karl to coach and not interfere with personnel decisions.
I'd say, Vlade has to be very careful here and potentially make a cutthroat decision.

Right now, he's got to get Karl in a room and decide if he can Cuz can work this out. Cuz's future here depends on this season. If Vlade comes away not 100% confident this will work out between the two, he's got to go to Vivek and fire his ass.

This btw is another case of coach hired before the GM/Vlade...

This is not the time to "hope" Karl/Cuz can work this out. It's yes or no. And it must be the right decision.

Karl has been recruiting Kings vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac and multiple players on the Kings' roster to unite with him in making the case to owner Vivek Ranadive that Cousins needs to be traded, league sources said.

Since the end of the 2014-15 season, Cousins has become aware of Karl's campaign to move him – including teammates telling Cousins, sources said. All around the Kings and Cousins, there is a growing belief the coach-player relationship is irreparable. Trust is a constant theme with Cousins, and he's been unable to build any with Karl, sources said.

Unbelievable.

I'd definitely be happy if we fired Karl right now, it'd repieve some pressure tbh.
And do what for coaching? Bring in another guy and restart? This is why some of us were so incensed with the Malone move. We had momentum, a coach that was connecting with our best players and some stability. Everything the team did to itself rocked that foundation and its been misstep after misstep ever since. Not sure how they salvage this one which likely means get ready for another rebuild
