Goran Dragic informed the Suns he will NOT resign this offseason.

Is he worth the risk though?!

There are reports that he has given Suns the list of teams that he would re-sign with and Sacramento is not one of them. He wants to go to Lakers, or Heat, or Knicks. Hopefully we can convince him with Coach Karl on board but its a heck of a risk to take given that he won't come cheap and we can ill afford to pee assets into the wind.

Its part of why we were not more aggressive in getting Rondo.

Depends if we gave him the keys or not, if it happened itʻd probably have to be a sign and trade sending Darren away.

Unless the Suns are still high on Nik.

Not surprising at all, however it is surprising he wants to go the Lakers. I'm shocked Sacramento isn't in his list wtf Dragic? Have you not seen the concrete being poured into our arena?

I'd take a small chance on trading for him, unless he goes all out and tells us he wouldn't resign here

If Sacramento is on the list then you obviously go after him and get DC coming off the bench. He can still play significant minutes as there will be stretches where Dragic and DC will play together. If we do get this happening it improves the starting 5 and improves the bench too (provided that DC is not part of the trade)

Doesn't surprise me that he would want to go to the Lakers. I mean, who wouldn't want to play with washed up Carlos Boozer, Jordan Hill, and Kobe's mutilated corpse?

So the Suns two and now three PG offense crashes on the rocks of egos and too many ball dominant players.

Its obviously something you have to look at, but I don't know we could offer enough, and we have a guy, notably a CHEAP guy (hence freeing up money for other positions) who has done a good job for us this year in Collison.
So we go after dragic and afflalo and just hope that in 30 games they decide to stay with sacramento?

I do have to say that a Bledsoe/Green/Ennis rotation makes much more hierarchical sense than the current Dragic/Bledsoe/IT/Green monstrosity that they have working now.

the Suns are no longer in the drivers seat since he says he won't resign in the summer and teams can low ball the Suns now because they know regardless he will be a free agent so if he isn't verbally committed to sign to the team he is traded to I don't see many teams giving up too many valuable assets.

Didn't see this posted over here but anyway, if we were to trade for him and take on the risk, I think he'd find it's a pretty damn good situation compared to most others, if basketball is the priority and not chasing women in night clubs.

The Amick article says he wants something similar to Steph. Under Karl we might end up employing a pretty similar system, with obviously more of a post presence but the counter to playing with Cuz who'd take away touches/time on the ball is that Ben is not a ballhandler and Dragic wouldn't be competing with another guard for the rock, so he gets some of those touches back.

But playing for a creative, proven coach in Karl is a system that would likely fit him pretty well, and with the top big in the game, not to mention Rudy on the wing, there simply aren't many situations which would fit him better. If he wants playoffs, his problem is just about every legit playoff team has their PG for at least the next few years. Then looking at non-playoff teams, not a single one has anything approaching Cuz aside from NO(but they've got both Jrue/Reke running point). New Arena and likely a team who will be in the post season for years to come(giving you the benefit of the doubt here PDA!), I just don't see options which compete with this.

Other than market size. If he wants the glitz and glamour of a NY/Mia/LA, we can't compete with that, but he'd also not be interested in winning.

I'll also say, while we haven't signed any top FAs in our history with Vlade being the best, and while we have zero chance at getting Dragic in free agency, we also have never failed to re-sign a top player once he's been here through the draft or by trade. We've never had a top player bolt on us as an UFA.

I think they've lost some leverage, but there will be a bidding war between the teams for Dragic.

I can see where Dragic might actually be a little hesitant to play for us. Cuz is a ball dominant player who we run a lot of offense through. I don't think Dragic would have a problem with that at all. BUT we also have Rudy Gay who is another iso ball dominant player.. I think he's where the problem would be. My hope is that (even without Dragic) Coach Karl will find a way to make Rudy more efficient with less usage.

Posted this else where

but it will be a max deal on this CBA, and not the new one.

Eat the luxury tax for one season (JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR A CERTAIN ARENA TO BE COMPLETED) And reap the benefits. Weʻd have 3 years of Dragic (18.5), Boogie(15.5), Gay(13.5), McLemore(4), Stauskas(3) and Collison(5) for less then 60 million, the last two years of that weʻd have an extra 25-30 million in cap space to work with. < Free agency scenario.

Thatʻd only leave us about 14 million under the luxury tax next season though, putting together the other 7-8 players would cost more then that. All depends in Vivek wants a huge luxury tax bill next season.

Edit: More Optimism.

Not only that but we land Towns or Cauley-Stein in the draft, instantly stepping into the front court with Boogie. It really wouldnt matter who was the PF or C. The starting 5 of Dragic, McLemore, Gay, Cauley-Stein and Boogie is tough, with a guard rotation of Collison and Stauskas, we could make some deep runs for a few years.

Unless the Kings put McLemore out there, the Suns should have better offers for Dragic.

And I can't condone putting McLemore out there when Dragic can leave after the season. Stauskas? I might take that gamble, but someone will offer something of greater value, I'd think.

I'm happy to see the Kings in the mix, though. Dragic is the right kind of player to target. You can learn a lot about a teams vision by the players they pursue.

I wouldn't mind giving up Ben in any splashy deadline deal (I like him but not completely sold on his shot, his handle or his brain) but it would mean having THREE different Pizza guys in three years - and that would be a tough pill to swallow after all we've already been though.
