This team's confidence was truly tied into Malone and it's shockingly apparent of how much he held this team together. It's not that Corbin is telling them to do different stuff/learn new plays/new defensive sets or even the Pace thing that people keep harping on. There isn't time to learn new stuff during the year. But long gone is that team where even in losing efforts, you finished watching the game thinking that if they did a few things differently, they could have won the game. I don't recall really ever questioning the effort or hustle of ANY of the guys before the Boogie injury. Now, it's just snowballed
I agree with you. I also think that there are additional things at play as well. I think more than anything it's the how and why Malone was let go, rather than the firing itself. Our own GM said it didn't matter how much Malone won, he was going to get fired period. Also, they all know they are playing for a coach who is a sub. Why go all out for a guy that in 4 months you will most likely never work with again?

Note for those not watching Nets broadcast:

Yet another set of announcers describing the firing of Malone with shock and disbelief. So far, EVERY opposing team's announcers have had the same unanimous, negative reaction as the fans have had here. So Vivek or PDA basically DOES think he's the smartest guy in the room. He must, when every single other basketball opinion is shock and disbelief

I mean, who did he consult? Other than people who had power struggles with Malone, that is...

I just want to point out that Nik was an impressive -8 in only 7 minutes of action. But not to be outdone, Williams was an outstanding -15 in only 11 minutes.

How can you expect to win ball games with players playing like this? It's the Cuz and Rudy show and just some guys who happen to be on the same team. We need help. How much longer do we have to suffer?

It's one thing to say he needs to be a creator in a half court set, and his turnovers when he's doubled and whatnot are more forgivable, but I think what most of us are frustrated about is the unnecessary bringing the ball up the court which often leads to absolutely nothing good.
Again, we only have 1 player o the roster who consistently does that. Cuz does it too much but it would never be a temptation if John Wall were the PG, or it was a Jrue/Tyreke backcourt. Our 2nd best ballhandler might be our center.

You can work with the basic structure we have amongst our starters, but the appropriate pace is slow. If you don't have creative perimeter people than you want to control action. If you run willy nilly, well DC can;t have it 100% of the time.

You can't expect to win with them, which is why I keep saying they need to be nailed to the bench. Omri should be the first one off the bench every single night, matchups be damned. DWill needs to be traded away but they'll keep him around because ... pace.

Dwill is literally the only guy on the team on the record with liking the new system.
