Game 42
Sacramento Kings versus Brooklyn Nets
By Stephen Tetsu, Obviously a Glutton for Punishment.

D-Will's "great" year apparently doesn't include defense.

Things less painful than watching a Kings game:
  • Getting dumped by your fiancé via text.
  • Getting five root canals without the assistance of novocaine.
  • Putting your beloved pet down.
  • Giving ten thousand dollars to an alleged Nigerian prince.
  • Repeatedly getting hit in the groin with a sledgehammer.
  • Sawing off one of your legs.
  • Watching a ten hour Keeping up with the Kardashians marathon on E! Network
  • Writing a game thread (barely)

Things more painful than watching a Kings game:
  • Realizing there's still a half season of this crap left.
  • A Pete D'Allesandro interview.

What's the difference between the Maloofs and the new regime?
The Maloofs had a valid excuse for being incompetent nincompoops. But don't worry, that new arena's coming in 2016!!! (Along with higher ticket prices! WHEEEEE!)

The estimated valuation of the franchise has risen to approximately 800 million dollars, a large gain considering Vivek and company bought the team at a 530 million dollar valuation. Couple this with the utterly disgraceful handling of the Malone firing and, well, it certainly seems like the perfect time to raise season ticket rates.

But hey, Vivek saved the team from moving, remember? That means that the "new" regime is officially exempt from any sort of criticism until approximately the year 2030 (a rough estimate). Just remember, Kings fans everywhere, that "this is your team", a nice gesture but one that means absolutely nothing when Vivek and his "amazing" PR team are doing their best version of the "Gambling in Casablanca?!" defense.

In other words, everything is awesome.

It has gotten to the point where I actually dread the games against soft opponents we should beat, more than the ones against top teams I expect to loose.

In case you did not get enough of this the first time here is Damian Lillard's dunk crushing the Kings hopes while DWill watches:

If Cousins had not been sent to the bench by the Zebras he would have been there to take one of his patented charges. Well if there were actual NBA referees working the game instead of those imposters.

I would normally say that this would be a revenge game for us after the debacle on the road against them a few weeks back, and that we should smash them.

However with this team now you have absolutely no idea which team is going to show up every night.

I would guess we could get a better than 65% chance of knowing ahead of time that the Kings would put up a good game any given night, just by who is going to step on the court.

* When the Kings want to play hard, all of Boogie/Gay/Collison plays.
* When they want to have an excuse for not playing well, one of those 3 doesn't play.

Don't forget Capt.'s Theorem: The Nets stink, therefore the Kings will not show up tonight.

Didn't see the game, but here's what I can see from the clip:

1) Robinson faked the pick and Thompson overplayed it horribly and was already behind the play before Lillard made his move.
2) Collison was fooled by the hesitation move (or anticipating the screen) and Lillard would have blown by him even without the semi-pick.
3) Williams rotated to the right spot on the floor but inexplicably (or predictably) avoided contact at the basket anyway.
4) Lillard clearly traveled. Even if you allow the extra step on the gather, which they usually do in the NBA, this is 4 obvious steps which is one too many.

Is anyone surprised they missed an obvious call at the end of the game? More of the same really. Though with Cousins in the middle, there's no way Lillard is getting all the way to the basket.
A decent coach would have had an actual shotblocker down there for the most important defensive possession of the game, not Derrick Williams.

I was not surprised at all by the no call on the travel. I was at the game, with 74 friends/blazers fans and instead of being heckled at the end of the game, i was being told they were embarrassed to win like that, and being apologized to. I knew we were going to lose the game though, and the coaching/playcalling/execution was terrible at the end. Sad thing is, I didn't even feel bad because after watching those last 5 minutes, no matter how many bad calls there were, I felt the Kings didn't deserve to win.

Teletovic and Bogdanovic might as well rain three's in this one because the Kings won't be guarding them from the great beyond. I wonder who gets to flop versus Cousins in this one...Plumlee and KG don't seem much like floppers but I could be wrong!

I feel like this is the game Cuz should come out strong in. Plumlee will probably get a lot of easy baskets, but it won't be to the point where Cuz is a - on defense.

I expect the Kings to win this game with Ben putting up 35pts!!! Nik's first game since the DNP with another 35pts of his own!

Cousins has got to stop the point guard crap. If he needs additional motivation to stop with his pg fantasy, maybe a reminder that his ridiculous turnovers as pg isn't going to help his All Star bid any.
Gay needs to limit his dribbling to about three bounces just to be safe; just limit his moves to an iso turnaround and declare victory. If they can do that, and play with the same effort as last game, maybe the two of them come out of this game with less than 5 turnovers between them and the Kings can pull off a victory.

Cousins bringing the ball up makes me cringe more than when Webber used to do it. Corbin needs to tell him just to stop, to get the ball to the freaking guard and not ever do it again. Cousins is concerned about his turnovers. As has been said, merely NOT playing the 1 on the break would be a huge step in the right direction.

KG flops and my bet is that he would be the guy will give DMC the mandatory 6th foul in the final minutes of the 4th by virtue of flops.;

I reckons it costs us a good net negative 4 to 5 points a game. It rarely leads to a basket for us while typically leading to a turnover or bad defensive balance when he just tries driving to the rim, missing the shot and allowing the other team to get transition points the other way. Rarely does it end up in a successful pass or layup for him. In addition, it takes him away from the post and keeps him on the perimeter.

Too much pressure on Cuz to be a creater. If DC isn't on, and I mean really on, there is nobody other than our two stars to be supplemental creative players. Ben still is well below average handling, JT obviously isn't going to help. Landry, DWill, Evans etc. provide nothing. Nik has washed out thus far. McCallum is uncreative. It just goes DC, who only middling as a creative PG, then straight to Rudy and Cuz. And with "go go go" "push push push" its not the organized halfcourt creating you would do in the triangle or whatnot. Its chaos.

It's one thing to say he needs to be a creator in a half court set, and his turnovers when he's doubled and whatnot are more forgivable, but I think what most of us are frustrated about is the unnecessary bringing the ball up the court which often leads to absolutely nothing good.
