Ray really never played in any meaningful games. He was in Reno most of the early part of the seaosn, and only started playing a lot when we entered tank mode. He had some productive games. He also had a 3 game stretch where he shot 9-40.
For comparison purposes, Ray vs Ramon, last april both played 40 mpg for teams going nowhere. Ramon outscored Ray 16.6 to 12.6, outshot him .420 to .378 (also taking fewer shots than Ray), had fewer assists 6.0 to 6.6, got to the line more (shooting 86% on 5.3 FTA vs .769 on 1.6 attempts for Ray). If you want advanced stats, last season Ramon had a better PER as well (16.04 vs 9.74).
Ramon isn't even the worst guard on this roster, much less the conference.
Sessions has a much longer, and frankly, more productive career to this point, including last season. I realize Sessions has been awful, and defensively especially, he always has been. Ramon also, very slightly, has a better PER than Ray this season. And he's playing about as bad as possible. Ramon is IT light. Why we got such a defensive liability, I can't say. I also am not sure why he's struggled so badly at times. I'm just not really that sure Ray is any better. In the opportunity he got last season, he certainly wasn't.
It may be true Ray will end up better than Ramon, and I am fine with playing Ray. But Ramon is, based on his history, the better option at the moment. We really have no idea what Ray can do.
