Completely enjoy watching this Summer League team the organization put together. Besides our guards under contract Ben, Ray and Nik who have all played well...Acy, Moreland and Brooks have opened eyes....I put Acy there cause he's not under contract but he's improved his game a bit....don't know what the contract status is ( how many under contract), but we need to find a way to hold onto Moreland.
I'm not sure how accurate this site is, but it does seem to have a good breakdown on our roster, salaries, cap situation, etc.

I think it's just the 15 roster spots. We can recruit guys like Lockett to Reno, but I think any other team can sign them to an NBA contract if they so choose.
K, that's what I thought. So if we wanted to protect Moreland, he'd need to be on our 15-man roster.

Collison || Ray
Stauskas || Ben || Terry
Gay || D-Will || Outlaw
JT || Landry || Evans
Cousins

Did I miss anyone who's currently under contract? Assuming the highly likely Terry buy-out, that gives us 4 roster spots. Acy very likely gets resigned and makes the NBA team, but I see no reason why Moreland can't get a contract and be stashed for a year

I don't really pay much attention to Summer League but we usually don't do this well do we? It seemed weird when we hired Corbin and then he came in right away and displaced the other coach from SL duties but we're getting some decent results. I watched part of the game today and liked what I saw.
It's not just Corbin. It's the undeniable change in attitude and culture that Vivek (who is there in the stands BTW) has insisted upon. People are actually working hard to try and make the team. :)

Let's not discount the efforts of the guys already on this roster as well. Ben, Ray, and Nik have all been effective and, more importantly, played great team basketball beyond what we all thought capable of them (well, of Ben in particular).

According to this http://www.spotrac.com/nba/sacramento-kings/ Quincy Acy also has an "active contract."

Technically Acy is signed already, but his money is unguaranteed, so we can cut him "for free". I don't think that's terribly likely.

-- have to get Moreland into camp, even if that means a partial guarantee or something to outpoint other teams. No telling how well it translates, and he's too skinny right now, but that is precisely the style guy we're searching high and low for to help Cousins.

-- Ben looking far more comfortable, making better decisions.

-- on offense. Defensively...still losing his guy regularly.

-- Nik really was frozen out for stretches, but when he touches it good things happen. That up fake, step in off the glass long jumper late in the game was all that sophistication wrapped into one.

-- Sim needs to lose 50 lbs of gut, then we can talk.

-- the tournament format actually seems to be paying dividends. I had a lot of doubt about that in Summer League. I mean, who cares? Bu somehow, someway, it added some one and done feeling of significance to the proceedings.

-- team looked well coached and much more like an actual basketball team with a system than our SL teams have looked in years.

Currently (i.e. not including Acy), we have 12 players under contract, so three roster spots up for grabs between Acy/Moreland/Brooks/Sim/Cunningpork/Any guy who we acquire between now and the season. I'm also pretty sure Terry won't be on our roster come opening night so that could be another spot there as well.
So it comes down to the potential moves we make and how many contracts we may have to take back....there needs o be some flexibility but..... Acy, Moreland and Brooks certainly have helped themselves. I think Moreland is a no-brainer. Brooks can fit the 5th guard, combo guard role...instant offense off the bench role possibly. I think Acy can be the Swiss Army knife-forward, stretch 5. Once some moves are made it may free up spots.

I will be truly pissed off if the Kings let Moreland slip away from them.

The Kings have been gift wrapped a legit defensive prospect. Incredible shot blocking and rebounding instincts. He's a great athlete with long arms. He has the perfect foundation for a future Cousins partner. At least try to develop the guy.

The Kings should seriously look at waiving or stretching Terry and/or Outlaw if roster space is an issue. You don't let that stop you from keeping a guy who's shown the ability to fix multiple issues this team has had for years.

Well, to be completely fair to the front office, I seem to remember similar posts on these forums regarding Hassan Blankface, Justin "Dumber than a Box of Rocks" Williams, and Louis "Rapunzel" Amundson.

The man's looked amazing during Summer League but NBA big men are a completely different animal. The fact he didn't get eaten alive by the T-Wolves bigs gives me a lot of hope though.

I love the addition of the tourney and I love summer league in general. 15 bucks well spent on the league pass.

He has length and is quick off the floor and has good timing.....you sign him and then lets see if this staff can develop him.....I like the improvements I've seen with other players, he could be a cheap productive option in time

Observations from the game:

1. Ben looks night and day the last few games compared to the first two. Displaying some improved dribbling and finishing skills at the time. Gives us some hope of him becoming a valuable player one day.
2. Staukas still gets the nod at starting SG, as he plays smart and never hurts his team out there
3. Moreland needs to be signed. Anyone who can block a shot with BOTH arms at the same time is a monster.

Whiteside and Moreland isn't really a fair comparison. Every time I saw Hassan he looked completely lost on the court. On offense he just seemed clueless and completely ineffective and on defense he never seemed to understand rotations, just hanging around the basket trying to challenge shots.

And Amundson is a totally different type of player.

Williams though is a pretty close comparison. Hopefully Moreland has a longer career and greater impact. He seems to have a better feel for the game to me.

He also blocked another shot without jumping. A two hand block on a hammer dunk attempt....and a no jump rejection in the same game. I think he's for real and an impact player

Loved the two hand block. Makes it tough for the ref's to call a foul because of the rule of verticality. Dude pursues every shot at the rim. Very quick and active, great for todays NBA.

Does he have the head to be an NBA player? Can he add weight? Can he develop a little 15 foot jumper? Those are the huge questions marks in his game, but for now, love him.

Probably a second team kinda' guy; i.e. the Kings develop him, but he eventually uses those skills for another team. Just the odds.

No need to lump Amundson in with the likes of Williams and Whiteside. We may not have been able to find a use for Amundson, but let's not act like he hasn't managed to stay in the league for seven years, and wasn't a rotation player on a playoff team as recently as two seasons ago.

The fact that our last two games have been against teams who have played rotation players is a very encouraging sign, but for as much as I advocate signing Moreland, I still wouldn't have any plans for him, in the short term, other than sending him down to the D-League.

But that is parlty the point. He showed up well against Minny's NBA sized front court. He has been good all summer league and the only way you find out if he can handle it is to sign him up to a deal that might not be fully guaranteed but will give us a chance to see what he can do in the camp against Cousins and JT if he is still around. You try and get him a couple of pre-season games as well and if you feel he needs a bit more work, you stash him at Reno for a year and have a program in place to work on his game so that in 12 months time he might stick! He certainly deserves a camp invite at the very least.

Well, from the sound of Mike Malone's statements, that's what he's getting
