It's a move that makes us better for the future. Williams has the offensive potential to be an 18 PPG player in the future. At SF. Heck, just last season, he was 18 PPG with p/36. I don't put any stock into his numbers this season as he's obviously not in the Twolves plans for the future and has gotten inconsistent minutes.

The Landry signing immediately put JT on the chopping block for this FO as far as Im concerned. We get out of his contract and opens up a bigs rotational spot. Short-term, we obviously get much worse. But wins aren't important this season. Would love to see Salmons, JT, or Hayes flipped for WIlliams
Yep...wouldn't be shocked if it was JT. He's far from unmoveable. If its JT...I think this would just be the first move. But I can see Salmons as he's an expiring.

Not sure if I'm as excited about salmons for Williams. He has potential but right now I don't know if he's any better than luc or outlaw.

We'd be trading cap space for him which may be an ok risk but I'm a little skeptical.

Just don't know what we would do for bigs if we move JT. We have severe issues with height, rebounding and interior d. All of which would get worse with that kind of trade.

Not like JT is helping all that much defensively. We've gotten better pretty much every time we turn to Ppat or Outlaw or Mbah at PF

it will be hayes. Now we have a huge log jam at SF. Outlaw, Salmons, Luc, and Williams. who gets lost
If Salmons doesn't play a minute for us the rest of the season, we already get better. Outlaw plays only if we have no other choice. Williams gets to start until he proves otherwise, and Luc is the backup and maybe gets minutes at PF as needed. Actually, depending on what the match up is, I would probably start Luc at PF some nights considering he's our best individual defender and can guard some PFs. We have nothing to lose really by playing Williams 36-40 min a night at SF. If he absolutely can't cut it, well he has an expiring contract next year but at least we can say we gave it a shot.

Or okay, didn't see the report that Mbah A Moute is included. I would be sad to see him go, but I'd still do it. Mbah A Moute is a great veteran and I'm glad he's on our team, but we need young talent more than we need solid vets right now. I guess that makes Outlaw the backup short-term and we look for a better option later.

Aw, who needs defense anyway?

(Really? I'm not a huge fan, considering that Mbah a Moute has been working out thus far. But I guess the YCTCYDWFPYD* principle applies.)

* = You can't trade crap you don't want for players you do

Ugh, no to the Williams for Mbah a Moute trade. They're both tweener forwards with good athleticism and generally poor offense. I'd rather have the one that is a lockdown defender.

Edited to add that Mbah a Moute's knees are still question marks. If the FO knows something there that they're not making widely known, then I can grudgingly approve of the trade.

Unless we get a 1st round pick in the deal, this makes no sense. We can't be a good defensive team without good defensive players.
Minnesota is in the same situation we are - no ability to trade a first-round pick until they convey the protected one they owe to Phoenix. They do have three second-rounders this year: their own, Golden State's, and New Orleans'.

Once again, if this is true and we trade luc for williams then I'm done with PDA. Luc, cousins, and Mclemore should be untouchable
I personally feel IT is untouchable, and Ben hasn't given me the confidence in his future that I would like yet, but I agree with the overall sentiment.

If LMAM is involved it only makes sense if you consider that Williams is younger and doesn't have knee issues. I'd prefer to have a healthy LMAM over Williams at this point in time, but I'm always worried about his knees.

The FO apparrantly wants to build a young nucleus. The vets don't matter as much if you're not ready to win. LMAM can't push us over the top to make us a winning team, so what are we really losing if this happens?

Well then this would make no sense at all.
Unless one believes that Derrick Williams was worthy of being picked #2 overall and simply has been miscoached for his first two years. Stockpiling talent in the hope that it can be tapped? We know what Mbah a Moute is capable of, and he's a role player. Perhaps the idea is that we might be able to turn Derrick Williams into something quite a bit more than that, and failing that we'll be in good position for the big draft come June.

I don't know much about Williams and I really like Luc, but from what I have read many people still think Williams has a lot of potential to grow. I don't mind the front office taking a gamble and agree on the second paragraph of what livinthedream just said.

What we are losing is a top defender and great bball iq guy on a team desperately trying to build those in to the culture.

Bad teams that lack those things continue to develop bad habits.

It's pretty much this^^^. Calling Mbah a Moute untouchable is way over the top. I hope there pieces or unwanted contracts attached on our end but I'm afraid we are stuck with Hayes and MT.
