MCW was flirting with a quadruple-double. Ended with only a double-double but dang..

No worries, the few of us that wanted to draft MCW in this forum were laughed at a bit too.

In a stunning development, the Phoenix Suns, featuring the starting big man lineup of Channing Frye and Miles Plumlee beat the Blazers 104 to 91. So much for tanking for Wiggins

indeed. MCW was on my short list, and he represented a rare common ground between the two of us...

i was at the kings game last night, so i missed out on all the other nba action, but i've been perusing the final scores, and holy hell, last night should have been the nba's opening night: 42 points for kevin durant. 38 points for klay thompson. 32 points for damian lillard. 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists for paul george. 31 points and 17 rebounds for kevin love. 30 points and 14 rebounds for DMC. 17 points and 26 rebounds for dwight howard. oh, and of course there was MCW's near quadruple-double in his rookie debut. goodness, guys were just going OFF all over the place...

Watching the Warriors-Clippers game in preparation for the next couple of game threads, being treated to terrible defense that would make even Keith Smart angry. I thought Bogut and Jordan were supposed to make these things impossible.

I wouldn't say the Clips played terrible defense so much as you literally can't give Steph Curry an inch of space. Loved the way CP3 played. It was scary how well composed he was. He racks up assists effortlessly without turning the ball over and picks his scoring opportunities very very well.

adding to that, I thought even the Warriors half court defense was halfway decent. they got killed in transition, turning the ball over way too much and they couldn't do a thing against Paul, but in fairness, when he plays like that (and the refs comply), who can?

The Pelicans are starting to look like the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, in terms of a being a team whose total is somehow much less than the sum of its parts. There's no way in hell that a team with Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans and a healthy Eric Gordon should be having their asses handed to them by the Orlando Magic.

There's no question that, individually, all of those guys can play. Do they just need time to gel, is it coaching, or is it something else?

I've been watching their games. As much as it pains me to say it - Tyreke really needs to step up his game. I don't know if it's because of the injury he sustained in preseason, but he just looks a step slow, doesn't move with the same kind of intensity or quickness that he used to. Also looks like he's put on weight which just makes him less mobile. He's been setting guys up for shots, but they've been missing. That's what happens when you rely on outside shots...

Holiday, Davis and Gordon have been playing relatively well. They've got a huge weakness at the center position though. Stiemsa makes a strong case for being as useless as John Salmons, and they have Onuaku backing him up now who's no stud either. Ryan Andersen has been out with a fractured toe, and I think that's made a significant difference.

Oh and from reading Pelicans forums, it seems Monty Williams might just be the "defensive" version of Keith Smart. Fans were screaming at him for one of his substitutions that they felt cost them the Pacers game.

I think they need a better system to gel everyone together. Right now the way they play looks a lot like how we went out to get guys who could handle and score, dumped them all together on a court and told them to go get things done.

Anthony Davis btw, is a heck of a player. If we could pair him with Cuz we would easily, hands down have the best big men pairing in the NBA.

I don't really think that they lost to a ****y Magic team by twenty just because Evans is off to a bad start, but I more or less agree with you.

Evans off to a rough start with the Pelicans. A lot of people predicted it Jrue, Eric Gordon and Reke would struggle together as they all need ball to be effective and all really aren't great off-ball players. They need to trade one of them (assuming Gordon since they just made huge commitments to Hollday and Reke) so they can clear up some of their ball issues and get Davis more involved
