Don't Make Me Use The Bat
With my 12th selection, I choose:

Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman - 1988

Poetry, loss, faith, charisma; this debut album has it in spades. Radio hits include Talkin' 'bout a Revolution, and the transcendent Fast Car. I love many of her singles as well, but this album is her most complete and it's coming to my island!

Track List:

1. Talkin' 'bout a Revolution - 2:40
2. Fast Car - 4:57
3. Across the Lines - 3:25
4. Behind the Wall - 1:50
5. Baby Can I Hold You -3:14
6. Mountains o' Things - 4:39
7. She's Got Her Ticket - 3:57
8. Why? - 2:06
9. For My Lover - 3:12
10. If Not Now... - 3:01
11. For You - 3:10

More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracy_Chapman_(album)
Off my island last time, so obviously I approve.

I am going to go about as hardcore as my music appreciation allows me to with this pick. I remember hearing this as a kid and being amazed at how dark it sounded. It wasnt something i really associated with, i just was really interested in the sound.

My 12th pick for the draft may be my only rap artist on my list. He is my favorite rapper of all time and this is my favorite album of his.

The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem (2000)

Hey all.

My selection is

Umsindo. Georgia Anne Muldrow. 2009.

So once upon a time Georgia Anne Muldrow stepped of a space ship. She had positive intentions...anyway...this album is almost the perfect soundtrack for everyday happenings...and therefore essential for a desert island that promises only a simple life.

Here is the wiki page

kk, VF21 is actually gone for a few days, and I can see that as soon as she left discipline went all to hell. So as fill in god mod of this thread, there are going to be a few new rules:

1) First, if you timeout, that is 20 lashes. There is no appeal. But a monetary bribe may inspire some leniency.

2) Second, there will be NO taking of my picks. That's 50 lashes and you might as well save your money.

3) Third, there is not nearly enough Manilow in this thread. And Macarenaing. I haven't decided yet on the enforcement mechanism to correct these deficiencies, but when I do...

4) Fourth, there will be no complaining about Rules 1-3 upon pain of being locked in a small room while Rebecca Black is piped in 24/7.

also, VF21 sent me her picks, so I shall now put up her first selection.

Alright, VF21's pick for the 12th Round is:

Face Value - Phil Collins - 1981

Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face_Value_(album)

Featuring the cool "In the Air Tonight".

This is Phil Collins' first solo album. I'll be honest. I picked it because of one song (which Bricklayer correctly showed) but I can listen to the whole album, something that doesn't happen too often. I've gotten pretty picky about only taking certain cuts for my favorites playlists.

Also, at the risk of stepping on Bricklayer's toes, UK kings fan is free to make his twelfth round pick at any time. He just no longer gets priority.

Alright, for the last pick of round 12...

m83.jpg

M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

So, I was originally hoping to save this for one of the final few rounds, but certain circumstances (ahem. Round 11, Padrino :p) forced me to move this pick up in fear of possibly losing it.

I'm actually new to the M83 fan club as I just heard of them about 1 year ago. I kept hearing "Midnight City" everywhere and just had to know who performed it and what else they did. When I researched, I was overwhelmed by the entire thing. I literally fell in love with their music. Pretty soon, I was hearing M83 everywhere! I was telling a friend the other day that he's probably heard M83 before, just hasn't realized it. They are played in one of the main trailers for "Rust and Bone," one of their songs is played on the official SF Giants World Series DVD and they've even been played on some of the Kings broadcasts.

This album is their newest and because it was the one I first discovered, my favorite. But the rest of their stuff isn't far behind at all. This album alone has 23 songs that come with it.

Live fan video featuring "Midnight City."

With the first pick of round 13

googoodolls.jpg

Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up the Girl

When I first began making a "pre-draft must have" list, "Dizzy Up the Girl" was one of the first I wrote down. Feeling they were pretty safe, I knew I could wait until now and maybe even later to draft them. Ever since "A Boy Named Goo," I have been a faithful Goo Goo Dolls follower. Of course, they found mainstream success with this album and "Iris," thanks to "City of Angels." Terrible movie, BTW. Anyways, I fell in love with the album and it began to hold many sentimental connections with me. My island just wouldn't be complete without it.

My favorite off the album, "Black Balloon"

Ok, with the 2nd pick of the 13th round VF21 selects...ahem...

Burlesque Original Movie Soundtrack - Christina Aguilera & Cher - 2010

Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burlesq...ure_Soundtrack

I'll let VF21 provide youtubes/further info etc.

P.S. Let this be a lesson to you Slim -- hesitate and you are lost!
Okay, about this Burlesque pick. I absolutely love Christina Aguilera and the work she did in this film is what made me such a big fan. Talk about a HUGE voice. Her rendition of the Etta James classic "Something's Got A Hold On Me" starts off the movie and the soundtrack with just the kind of energy I'll need on those days on my island when I need to get up and moving around, finding coconuts and doing all the other island chores.

You haven't lost your pick; it's just that, because your pick timed out, if the album you were going to take in the 12th round happened to be be Face Value, by Phil Collins, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, by M83, Dizzy Up the Girl, by Goo Goo Dolls, or Burlesque, by Cher and Christina Aguilera, then you're out of luck. You can take anything that hasn't already been picked for your 12th round selection and, since it's back to you already, you can proceed straight to your 13th round pick.

well i will pick my 13th round pick now and we can move on... i must apologize for holding up the draft :(

Update in the morning
Ah, good pick -- I took that one last time. Actually I took both it and Dookie, and with them sliding this time I was seriously considering picking up one of them again despite my attempts to avoid too many duplicative picks. Probably best you saved me from temptation.

I select

High Violet. The National. 2010.

image.jpg

I could have pretty easily taken this album in the first or second round- but impulse got in the way. Am pretty happy it is still available in round 13. The album is pretty moody and introverted, but still remains delicate. I would like to say it often suits me although that may be a bit too self indulgent. I believe the National have received a good amount of media attention and it is definitely well deserved.

My next pick was not on my list originally, but after losing Automatic for The People in the earlier rounds, I added this equally haunting album as replacement. After listening to the album again, i'm actually glad that I lost out on REM or I would have missed out on this gem.

No Need to Argue - Cranberries (1994)

Also, as current god emperor of this draft thread, I would just like to announce that I have decided to award myself 3 extra picks for this round.

Thank you for your worship.

Grabbing some low hanging fruit with this pick, and adding to my growing island collection of classic rock. Gotta love the opening track, which will power my island commutes better than a strong cup of coffee. Led Zepplin has a lot of blues influences resonating through this album which will play nicely with my other catalog thus far. If given free reign I would be bringing IV with me to the island, but I'll gladly add this next offering to the library!

With my 13th selection, I choose:

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II - 1969

Track List:

1. Whole Lotta Love - 5:34
2. What Is and What Shoulder Never Be - 4:44
3. The Lemon Song - 6:19
4. Thank You - 4:49
5. Heartbreaker - 4:14
6. Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman) - 2:39
7. Ramble On - 4:23
8. Moby Dick - 4:21
9. Bring It Home - 4:20

As long as you don't have visions of being god-emperor of Dune and turn into a giant worm, I guess we're all good.

I select The Strokes - Is This It - 2001

5c9c3c6f4f8da14e4e6bf24a4f0a522618eb15e0.JPG

I listen to a lot of music, and sometimes music that sounds like a "throwback" to an earlier time, exceeds the old days... this is one of those cases... stripped down, good, american pop-rock circa 1980's done beyond what was done in the 80's. This whole album is an uptempo affair with great songs like "Last Night", "Someday", "Soma", "Hard to Explain"... and so many more. Great, great fun listen.

Enjoy!
