anyone see Oladipo drain a game winning jump shot over Carter-Williams? the kid is gonna be a solid NBA player right away

He had 24pts, 6ast, 3reb.
meanwhile MCW had another great shooting night. 3-10

Could not get my four yr old down for bed (took too long of a nap at the babysitters), so decided to turn on NBATV stream on my phone, what a clutch shot by Oladipo. We were high fiving, then mom yelled at us to go to sleep! Can't wait for Saturday 3PM, the Mac and Mac show begins.

I read an article on McCallumn and it says he doesn't have much of a wing span and isn't quick. It also says he doesn't shoot exceptionally well either. That makes it sound grim but he has a well rounded game and the flip side is that he doesn't have any huge weakness. So, no big weakness and no big skill but in between there is a very competent PG. We'll see soon enough but the 40" vert will keep people buzzing for awhile. I think he was a good pick in a draft that was filled with PGs. I think he'll be on the roster.
Not sure where they came up with him not being quick. He's an excellent athlete with a 40 inch vertical. His drill numbers compare to anyone else at the combine. He has no problem getting where he wants on the floor. As for his shooting, he shot just under 50% overall last season and around 32% from the three. Obviously you'd want a little better effeciency from there, but he has decent form. A lot of his lower shooting percentage comes from poor shot selection. In highschool he was more of a pure PG, but at Detroit they asked him to carry a lot of the scoring load.

MCW has not changed anyone's mind about his shooting thus far. Philadelphia is the early clubhouse leader in the hunt for Wiggins.

Trey Burke has struggled pretty mightily as well. He's not pushing the pace and he's clearly being targeted by opposing guards. Utah coaches sat him for the last game hoping that seeing the game from the bench might help. We'll see.

Kelly Olynyk has looked great. I'm not surprised at his skill level, he showed that all year. What I AM surprised by is how effective he is in summer league. I figured when defenders got bigger and athletic all his quick spins, up & unders, pump and gos etc would not work as well and he'd have to simplify his repetoire a bit. Kind of like Spencer Hawes who ended up doing move, countermove, counter-counter move only to take a heavily contested shot when he was a King. But Olynyk is still getting it done offensively. Obviously the NBA is a big step up from Summer League but if he can make the adjustment on the next level and still do his thing then Boston may have themselves a very versatile weapon on offense and a hustle/energy guy on defense and the boards. I'm impressed thus far.

Andre Drummond had a great game. 23 and 18 I believe. He didn't look as dominant as his stats would make it seem but that's almost more impressive to me - that he can pick up boards and easy points while growing as a defender all as a role player. I don't think he'll ever be a superstar (I just don't see it in his on court demeanor or skillset) but he's going to be a HUGE piece for the Pistons. I'm still mad we didn't draft him.

I'm very excited for Saturday. Then maybe we can stop focusing on Tyreke and Iguodala and Vasquez and actually evaluate McLemore and McCallum for their summer league play. Hopefully they impress.
Olynyk has been a nice surprise. Not shocking really! As you said, he's doing exactly what he did all season long. I think his opponnets are surprised by his quickness. You look at his body and you think, naw! And then he's by you. Williams poor shooting isn't a surpirse either. Again, exactly what he did all year at Syracuse.

Watching the Pelican / NYK Summer league game at the moment, and man, I still really like Jon Brockman. He belongs in the NBA.

Such a hard worker. Great rebounder, and he knows his role about as well as you can. Never plays beyond his limitations. I'd love to have him back.

Agreed. As a twelfth man type, they don't get much better. Great character and effort guy. If only he could shoot, he wouldn't be vying for rosters spots during summer league.

Yep. His outside shoot is something he is still struggling with. If he could knock those down, he would be set.

Anyone who's going to Summer League this year going to give us impressions and recaps??? Cruzdude?? Bajaden??
Actually, Cruzdude and I will be headed that way tomorrow. We'll meet up with Uncia03 once there. This year I'll be representing Kingsfan.com. I have a press pass, thanks to, first VF21, and the league. So I hope to partake in some interviews, and give you my impressions of not only Kings players, but players on other teams. I also plan on picking the minds of my fellow companions. Since I tend to be long winded, I suspect that you'll be sick of reading my reports before summer league is over.

I, like you, have questions. So if I can corner Mike Malone, or McLemore etc. I intend to do so. I've heard that Jimmer is going to be there as a spectator, so I'll also be hunting him down. Of course, all reports will be filed at the German Beer Hall. That goes without saying!

Bajaden,

This is very good news. I look forward to your "work" on this. I'm hoping the coachs kid Ray and Ben Mc take Summer League by storm and combine for 50+ points:)

It would be nice to find a young SF that can play. An undrafted player can be found. Brad Miller and Wes Matthews being two examples.

Have fun,
KB

From the few articles and tweets I've read from this guy I came to a conclusion right away that they are very few "beat-reporters" in any sport that are as disinterested and disengaged in the team they cover as Jason Jones.

As many beat reporters have often said, technically they are supposed to be unbiased and report on the team in a neutral stance. However when you are with the team everyday and travel with them, it's difficult not to build relationships with the players and coaches......and even more difficult not to at least sub-consciously root for the team you cover. As a result most beat-reporters have a subtle rooting interest in the teams they cover and many are downright homers.

Yet Jason Jones has managed to pull off the ever difficult process of not only not caring on whether or not the team does well.......he almost seems to prefer if they fail.
No doubt. There is a large gap between the abilities of Jones and AV covering the Kings, from their colleague covering the 49ers (Matt Barrows). Barrows is one of the, if not the top, best 49ers beat writers around. He's very knowledgeable and informative. He constantly gets TV spots and radio spots in the bay area.

I'm a Journalism student from The Netherlands and I'd kill for me to be the Kings beat writer, haha. Jason Jones always asks the same kind of cliché questions, it's just terrible. If there's a job opening, please inform me! Lol

bajaden, I cannot wait to read your reports. We almost 100% agree on all of the prospect stuff, I'm sure we would agree on summer league too.
